The NPS website says they're currently trying to figure out a better way to manage this campground, which is much more attractive than the pay campground closer to the visitor's center and is free. But it's a big circle with minimal shade and from what it sounds like, when crowde

The campground is circular, 25 picnic tables for 25 campsites. There's a couple more on the side and a place for horses.
You need to register at the entrance.
2 vault toilets, which are maintained daily. These are the cleanest and best smelling ones I have used.

I stayed at the Sage Creek campground the day after the 4th of July. It was a little busy, but I arrived a 5pm and was able to easily find a spot next to a picnic table. There are trails leading away from the camp made by bison which are fun to explore. The camp itself isn't amon

We did the Badlands loop and it was magnificent! I had read online about the Sage Creek Campground, so we decided to check it out...it was around 15 miles or so from the pavement of the park road to a TERRIBLE washboard gravel road...the road was so bumpy that we actually had to

So the facility itself is wonderful. Bison routinely roam close to the campsites, and there is a prairie dog town practically in the campground. As primitive campgrounds go, the facilities are good.
HOWEVER, as a previous reviewer stated, there is no maximum limit. People being

How quickly do campsites fill up? We are planning to go a weekend in late July and I'm worried we won't get a spot. Thanks!
We got there around noon or 1:00. And there were several spots left. Not filled up until evening but you'll have much better pick of sites early in the day.

If we plan on arriving at 10pm on a Saturday in August (8/13/16), will we most likely find a spot in this campground?
I suspect your trip has long since come and gone, so I'm sorry for the delay, but in case it's helpful for you or others, you can definitely get a spot. There are designated sites, but ultimately people just set up camp wherever there's space. It's a wide enough expanse and far enough off the beaten path that I suspect it rarely, if ever, actually fills.

We're just passing through from Montana via I90 West, should we prepare to pay entrance to the Badlands National Park to camp here or can we just camp and pack up and be on our way the following morning? Thanks in advance!
Everything i have seen says camp and be on your way.

"First come first served so you'll want to get there early. No official sites, you just have to fend for yourself. No water."
"Get there early to get a bench & some shelter :)"
"Get there early if you want a picnic table."
"Be sure to get here early in the day to get a good spot with a table, otherwise you may end up with a little section in the center."
"Stay on the south side of the cul-de-sac to avoid headlights encompassing your tent when late comers arrive."
