Xanterra owns all hotels on the South Rim. This lack of competition means they don't have to make any effort to provide value for money and so -- not surprisingly-- they don't! The front desk staff at El Tovar are unhelpful and rude. The hostess in the restaurant went out of her way to be unpleasant. The facilities in the...

The location of this historic hotel is impossible to beat. It sits right on the south rim and steps away from the rim trail and bright angel trail. Good service, good price for the location and good food. Only negative is that there are no elevators so if you are on the third floor you get to go up 3...

I booked the romance package on our 40th wedding anniversary to surprise my wife. The package was great and included many things including a 4 course dinner. However there was one problem that dropped this review a star. Even though the package included dinner, they did not indicate in any way that you needed to take an additional step to...

My family and I arrived by train so prior to midday. Check in is mid afternoon so I was not expecting rooms to be avaialble just the ability to store baggage and do the paperwork. No said the rudest person I have ever dealt with in the travel industry. I'm 57 so that is an achievement of sorts. Fortunately she...

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was lovely. There was a lot of snow, which made staying in an old lodge even more cozy. The food was good. Room was tiny, but we were fine with that and was expected. The whole experience staying at El Tovar and being right on the Grand Canyon rim was pretty awesome!

The location, the ambiance, and the rooms were wonderful. So relaxing and romantic. We stayed just after Christmas so everything was still decorated. The tree was incredible! There was coffee on the mezzanine level in the morning which was a nice touch. Room service was great. We had a lovely sunrise walk to the canyon and came back in time...

We spent New Year's Eve here with a group of friends. What an elegant experience! The hotel itself is an icon, built by the railroad in the 1920s to accommodate travelers to the Grand Canyon, brought in by the short rail trip from Williams, Arizona. Now managed by Xanterra, the hotel (and its fabulous dining room) takes pride in excellent...

Arrived after a week of snow. Off season visits can be the best. This hotel is an icon. Amazing ambiance. Great meals in a historic restaurant. Treated exceptionally well. Wake up right on the south rim of the Canyon.
