Want beautiful, pristine scenery, wildlife galore, Kodiak grizzly bears just 10 feet away from you (safe in a small runabout boat) and no crowds jostling for viewing rights? Then get to Kodiak Island, Alaska and fly into Katmai Wilderness Lodge. Hosts Perry and Angela, young guide Chris and chef Roger made our stay a most wonderful experience. There were just...

We traveled to the Katmai Wilderness Lodge in July, 2016 -- it was our first experience in Alaska bear country, and it won't be our last! It's hard to dial down a review of an experience so grand as this one was, but I'll do my best: Angela and Perry who manage the lodge are exceptionally warm, welcoming people. Their...

Katmai Wilderness Lodge is the place to go if you want to meet people from all over the world, see the Alaska most people never see and hang out with grizzly bears! Every detail is perfect, from take off in the float planes, to wearing hip boots all day and wine with a delicious evening meal. We traveled to the...

I came on the recommendation of someone who I met on an expedition cruise - a like-minded person who loved watching animals in their natural environment. I was not sure what I expected, other than the opportunity to see the real-deal brown bears and perhaps get a better understanding of their behavior. I am not a photographer - I am...

This is one of the best places on earth with the best people. This is my fifth trip here, and I intend to come back every year. Bears, otters, foxes, seals....beautiful scenery. Perry and Angela are wonderful hosts. Perry is a knowledgeable and personable guide...knows the area and the animals. The food is without exaggeration the best I've had. Every...

After coming to Katmai National Park for 8 years, I have stayed many times in portable tents, "hard shell" tent camps with cooks, and large boats designed for bear viewing. Katmai Wilderness Lodge is by far the way to go! The lodge and rooms are incredibly comfortable, and the freshly prepared meals will rival the best meals you have ever...

When you travel from Australia for 2 months in Alaska and Canada, the bill is not much less than AUD 100K. Now you can do it cheaper but you'll get half the experience. Now on a Tauck Grand Alaska Tour, we thank our lucky stars that we accommodated the expense to spend 4 nights at Katmai Widerness Lodge. The lodge...

…but so much more! Our visit to KWL was easily a world Class adventure that was shared with one other fantastic couple whom we met at the lodge and the excellent management and staff of the Lodge. My wife and I have traveled extensively and that included visits to other bear watching facilities in Alaska that were not anyway near...

We stayed at Katmai WL in August 2015, but this is the first chance to write a review. Not sure how much more we can say than the excellent reviews already posted other by July and August guests. Simply put: we agree with them that this is the best place to go for wildlife (especially bear) viewing. It is the...

This is the BEST holiday we've ever had. So close to the incredible beauty and wonder of the natural world, and in complete comfort with delightful hosts and guides. Great food, and everyday an adventure. So close to the bears I couldn't believe it, and with confidence that we were completely safe because of the knowledge and respect of our...
