I came to Guadeloupe to scuba dive so was looking some place close to the Bouillante dive shops. Give Mayo & Hylode's Song fit the bill. The Gite is a ten minute walk from the Site takes you to restaurants, supermarket, dive shop, etc. Note that it's a very steep walk UP hill though, but manageable if you are reasonably fit. It's about a 45 minute drive from the airport or just under Euro 85 (during the day/night tariff is much for expensive--around Euro 130). Sylvie & Pascal are delightful hosts who will make you feel comfortable in their cozy lodgings. They bravely took over the Site last year during Covid. A very brave thing to do! Their communication pre arrival is excellent. The views are terrific and everything is spotlessly clean. You even get an adjoining private kitchen complete with washing machine for your personal use. If you don't want to cook or are arriving late, they will advise you of a catering service that will deliver either a meat, seafood or veg. meal and desert to your lodging for dinner (note: two person minimum). The food is good and presented in proper crockery. You leave the money in cash with the clean crockery for pick up the next day. The breakfasts are, however, served by Pascale and Sylvie on their terrace. It's a generous continental breakfast for Euro 9. The choice of local jams and generous fruit plate is tops. My room (a double bed and a single) was very cozy and clean. Hot water perfect. The mattress was a bit sagging on one side but I still slept very well. There is both an aircon and a fan--not to mention the breeze from the sea view terrace. WIFI was good enough to read e-mails but otherwise slow. This is a general problem on the island--even the phone network is slow. Note that the Gite's name, Hylode's Song, refers to the male frogs endemic to the island that serenades for a female all night long. Their songs are beautiful but loud and can make it hard to sleep if you aren't used to it, so I would suggest bringing ear plugs. There is also a small pool on the premises. I would happily stay here again and can only recommend this Gite.…
Great gite runners, Brigitte and Johnny, very welcoming and always ready to help. Tips and suggestions made our stay really easy and very nice. Nice and quiet room, plenty of opportunities to talk and exchange views with other hosts. A place to recommend!!
This is the fourth time we spent a week at the Gite Mayo and everything is perfect as the first time! Rooms are well furnished and decorated with an amazing view on the bay. The kitchen is properly equipped with everything you need to cook a perfect dinner. The location is perfect to take advantage of everything the surrunding offers. And the owners make always feel us like at home.
We happened across Gîte Mayo while visiting the dive shop Les Heures-Saines and were looking around for accommodation in the area. We wanted to move from the east side of the island to the west side for the dive sites. The gîte is located in the suburb of Bouillante which is on the west side of the island Basse-Terre. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed twice at gite Mayo in between our island hopping. The first apartment we stayed in had a large double bed and a bunk bed and bathroom with shower. The balcony included a fully kitted out kitchenette included a gas cooker and fridge and had a great view over the valley and sea. We enjoyed many evenings cooking, eating and relaxing on the balcony. For our second time we stayed in a room that was fitted with a single bed and double bed with small balcony overlooking the valley and spacious bathroom with shower and toilet. We had access to a large communal dining area and kitchen which was fully fitted including oven and fridge. We opted this time for breakfast to be included and were treated to fresh fruit and bread and jam each morning. Johnny's attention to detail was appreciated. Both rooms had airco, mosquito net and ceiling fan as well as tv and free wifi and were very clean. Both balconies had a clothes line to hang up clothes to dry (very handy for frequent divers). The buildings are surrounded by tropical trees and plants and there is an outdoor swimming pool and plenty of parking. Johnny and Brigitte were perfect hosts and responded quickly to any requests or questions we had. my husband and I would definitely stay with them again…
We stayed three nights with Johnny and Brigitte during Christmas. We arrived on Christmas eve and Johnny managed to reserve us a table in a really good restaurant for the evening - really kind! Our room was quite small but very cozy and absolutely clean. From the terrasse you have the perfect spot for a sundowner and Johnny mixes really good Ti Punchs. The breakfast contains bread, a good choice of jams and always fresh fruit. You are welcome to use the kitchen at any time as well so you can make your own eggs or pankakes. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed in two rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, for three nights. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. Balcony gives a very nice view over the bay. Good location for exploring this part of Guadeloupe. The breakfast is of good quality and both John and Brigitte are very helpful. The special cake they bought on our daughter’s birthday was very thoughtful. The website needs some updating, the route description says to turn off at the yellow red striped shed but these days it has been repainted and is now light blue. Good to know when you arrive late in the evening. All in all a perfect stay!
We recently stayed for three days at Gite Mayo and had a wonderful experience. Johnny and Brigitte, the owners, were prompt in responding to email inquiries prior to our visit, and they were very gracious hosts once we arrived. The setting of Gite Mayo is on a hill overlooking the Caribbean and the Pigeon Islands - lovely! The accommodations were very comfortable and had been recently renovated. The property had lovely landscaping that added to its charm. Its location just off a main highway and mid-way on the west coast of Basse Terre made it very convenient to explore that part of Guadeloupe. And by all means, if you have an opportunity to have Brigitte prepare a dinner for you, take advantage! She's a marvelous cook, and Johnny is a most congenial bartender. If we ever have the opportunity to visit Guadeloupe again, we will definitely stay at Gite Mayo, and we highly recommend it to future travelers.…
We spent few nights in December 2012 and we felt like at home! Johnny and Brigitte were amazing: they helped us to make our stay in Bouillante perfect! The rooms were clean with a breathtaking view. We really appreciated breakfast: a lot of saisonal fruits, jams, just baked bread and much more! The shared kitchen is very convenient, especially when you have children. Also BBQ is available! We really loved it!
The best place to enjoy a family holidays. Spacious air-conditioned studio with a large terrace and a beautiful view of the bay. The morning you can start with a great breakfast of local fruits and delicious jams to fresh bread and coffee. Small but clean pool - great for kids. Very close to the Malendure beach and underwater reserve which can be visited by boat with a glass bottom. Other lovely beaches in the area. Car is necessary to see the surrounding countryside (waterfalls, volcano, National Park, ZOO, etc). Absolutely nice, cheerful and helpful hosts Brigitte and Johnny. Thank you for all, best regards and I hope see you soon!!!!!!!!!!
We stayed in Gite Mayo for 6 nights, and the stay was great - Johny & Brigitte are super helpful, rooms are clean, view is breathtaking. 5min drive to Malendure beach, ideal for divers. The shared kitchen is very convenient, especially in off season where lot of places around are closed. We really loved it there!
