Stayed at the resort during the March school holidays with my family. We had 4 rooms at level 2 and another at level 1. Level 2 rooms are above the kitchen and common area, which houses a karaoke set that is open to guests free of charge. Level 1 rooms are newer and for bigger family (up to 4), and situated away from the common area. The rooms are considered clean for kelong with some room for improvement. They do make it a point to rest one day per week for a more thorough cleaning. Activities include fishing (you can rent a rod at 20 ringgit for 2 days 1 night stay), Table Tennis, mahjong, Canoeing and karaoke private room (chargeable). There is free wifi at common area but a bit weak. No TV in the rooms but 1 in the common area. Food wise, they served up to 5 meals- lunch included for 3 days 2 nights’ stay. With self-serve supper of instant noodles, bread, coffee and tea. Jane, the person-in-charge who coordinated the booking, arranged our rooms and cooked our meals was a wonderful staff. She was friendly, patient and attended to our questions before the trip and during the trip. She also changed our dinner menu from steamboat on day 1 to cooked dishes on day 2, so we had variety. Fish was served during dinner and was fresh. We had a good first night but woke up by the noise from kitchen preparing the breakfast around 6 plus. Then came the second night where a large group of families with young kids checked in. They were running on the wooden platform and creating quite a commotion. The group started singing karaoke at 9 and music was very loud, with kids shouting into the mike frequently. The noise was unbearable as we were separated by wooden planks with no soundproof properties. As we were out at Desauru fruit farm for tour and ATV under the hot sun, we were tired and wanted to rest early at 10pm. Spoke to them to lower their volume at 10.30 and they did stop the Karaoke but not the noise. Woke up again by the group laughing, kids running and eating supper at 1 plus am. That continued for a while.. sigh... I spoke to Jane the next day and was told no rules imposed for guests how late they stayed up but they should stop their karaoke at 11pm. They would look into improving this in future. Agree that people may go to kelong and stay up to fish but it would be appreciated if individuals spare a thought for others and keep their volume down after 11pm. All of us, from the elderly and the young had a bad sleep that night. Would we go back again? Yes, but would request for rooms on level 1, away from the common area. Recommend to go during off-peak Seasons for those who want a peaceful and rustic getaway.

This is my second visit to Poseidon Oysterbay.
First visit was made in Jan 2017, where the resort had numerous operational issues (see my earlier review). Am glad that this second visit was a much more pleasant experience:
a) Newer rooms have been added.
b) Facilities and general cleanliness have been improved. No more faulty and rusty fishing rods lying around.
c) Basic amentities such as electricity and WiFi are also enhanced.
d) The meals provided are of greater variety and better standard.
Can make this a regular retreat form the urban jungle.

This was the last stop of our Malaysian road trip and (wow!) was it an appropriate place to end a holiday! We arrived on a boat that had a private docking bay, to a nicely planned floating kelong that was immediately cosy to the feel. Walking around barefooted on the wooden floor was a natural treat. The rooms were large enough for families, with comfortable amenities, and even a balcony to view the beautiful scenery!
Tea was served, with simple fare that was absolutely authentic of a kelong lifestyle and simply delicious! Coffee was provided and it was good... just nice to chill and chat the day away.
Dinner was a lavish spread of a steamboat with ikan bakar garam (salted baked fish), and the other fresh seafood ingredients, completed with fresh vegetables. After dinner entertainment was about gathering to chat, sing, mahjong, and even night fishing in the cool sea breeze.

Oh yes! You MUST have the famous oysters there too!!!

That’s the adult review...

The children’s review would be that it’s an amazing place! With mostly fishing, table tennis, a small archery range... fishing was the highlight of the trip as there were different fishes at different times of the day. The place was big enough to run around safely and play hide and seek, there was enough ice cold drinks, and the food was super delicious!

Definitely the place for urban kids to hangout and have an absolutely amazing holiday experience!

Stayed one night from 1 to 2 Jan 2017. Had such a bad experience that I decided to share this feedback immediately once I reached home:

a) Horrible boss - this guy was drunk and gave the guests a black face the whole afternoon while he was sitting at one corner. Even raised his voice and shouted crudely at his staff in an undignified manner, in full view of the guests+children (and it was due to some personal matters, and not guest-related. He kept cursing about wanting to sell off this establishment for $3 online. what a joke! ). Made the whole mood so unpleasant, unnerving, and definitely unwelcomed.

b) Bad management - 2 of the rooms experienced power failure from 10 pm onwards. We had to go around for almost an hour to hunt for a staff who is then willing to respond and follow up. Took more than 3 hours to resolve the issue. By then (1 am), we were dead tired and the children were complaining mad. Can't imagine if there are more serious contigencies like fire.

c) ill-maintained facilities - the official publicity mentioned about availability of free Wifi and fishing equipment on-site. Frankly, none of these were in proper working condition. We even have to scramble back to main island to get proper fishing gear! Please make the effort to maintain your equipment. Otherwise, do not list down in your publicity and raise expectation.

Frankly, for RM1700 for a night (see my receipt), this is severely shortchanged. We have intermittent good services from some of the staff, but the boss needs to review his attitude if he is serious in doing hospitality business.

It's a double storey hotel made of wood that is floating on Johor river, attached to fish farm and oyster farm. The owner has ingeniously managed to grow French oysters in tropical waters. All meals have freshly farmed oysters cooked in different ways and also to be eaten raw. Friendly dogs - Alsatians, Corgi, Basset hound and Labrador live on the fish farm, who will welcome tourists staying at the resort but will bark at strangers trying to steal fish at night. Rooms are air-conditioned with balcony, attached bathrooms with open concept and modern toilets. There is a lounge with DVD players, karaoke, great hifi system for music, mahjong, books and magazines for entertainment. Great for family, friends and kids.

This is an excellent kelong holiday which is good for bonding of family, friends or colleagues. We drove to Telok Sengat where a speed boat was arranged to ferry us to the kelong which was less than 5 minutes away.

We were greeted by Jane who warmly welcomed us. There were 9 of us in total in the group, all family members. We were allocated our rooms which were all air-condition with en-suite bathroom (a rarity on any kelong). Rooms can accommodate 4, 3 or 2 pax. The bed was comfortable & room clean.

On arrival check-in was at 2pm, we were arranged tea at 3pm which was sumptuous. Dinner at 7pm includes steamboat & barbecue seafood, chicken & satey. The speciality of the house is their raw oysters which was of a French breed. Since it was not included in our weekday package price, we ordered it ale-carte at RM12 each. The oysters were excellent. Food was abundant & we could not finish it. For those who can still it, instant noodle & bread are provided for supper. Breakfast includes packed nasi lemak, oyster porridge, coffee, bread & eggs.

Activities include fishing, canoeing, table tennis, karaoke & darts. There is also a small assortment of books & a tv room. My favourite past time is relaxing in the peace & quiet of the place. (Only on the weekdays as there are less guest there)

An enjoyable 2 days 1 night stay and I would strongly recommend

Came here as a large group, I stayed at Queen01 (see pic). It's a nice place to relax, read a book as you enjoy the Breeze and the vast view of the sea. Room is not big, but decent size. There is free wifi but it can be weak at times. Enjoyed the steamboat and BBQ dinner. Baked fish from the kelong is tender and fresh, prawns from steamboat were big and succulent, grilled lamb chops were surprisingly tender, but the BBQ beef and squid were too chewy. Overall I'd say it's a good place to chill over a short stay. Would be good if they add a pool table; they have mahjong sets but pool would be less noisy.

An absolute delight to find this floating boutique resort in the middle of sungai Johor. Accessible through teluk sengat about 1.5 hours from Johor Bahru via Kota tinggi or desaru highway. A small fiberglass raft transports visitors to the premise about 5 mins away. Car's can be parked at the jetty area for free.our room was spacious and had 2 queen size beds and a single bed. Toilet was partially open to the sea. A nice balcony spans the outside portion of the 2 floor resort. Entirely made of chengal wood, it looks very elegant indeed. The entire room was relatively clean and comfy expect the toilet which reeked of urine. I suppose that was overlooked. There is no tv in the room but the restaurant has. The botttom deck is largely a restaurant surrounded by open decked area for fishing. The design gives a riverboat feel to it like a page out of huckleberry Finn. The floating structure is connected to a working portion of a fish and oyster farm where I suppose we got most of our meals from. We were served meals in the late afternoon, dinner and breakfast the next morning. Dinner was steamboat featuring fresh oysters. I didn't fancy steamboat but it was a good spread. Aircon was good and water supply clean. There are 4-5 dogs on the fish farm too and they are a cute furry bunch. I would advise anglers to bring along smaller hooks since most of the fish are small ones. There are bigger ones but I didn't fish long enough to get one. Prawn bait would be good too. They do provide bait free of charge but they are the smelliest chum of a bait so... take note. I also appreciated the free flow of ice cream. Sunset was glorious and the remaining stay, peaceful. Probably the best thing they could do to improve longer stays is a tv and wifi. Digi services were good though and I used my own data plan. Back on the mainland, a crocodile farm located nearby is also a good option for sightseeing. As there aren't many rooms, eight if I'm not wrong, you would want to book in advance.

I like the quiet and serene ambiance. Went during the weekdays. It was windy and light rain. Enjoy the tranquillity and warm hospitality of the staff, Jane, Louise (owner) and the dogs, especially Bacon (hush puppy).. food is ok.. no complain.. hey, it's reasonable price for reasonable stay + food and boat transfer. If they have sea activities, i would have given 5 star. The rest is awesome!!

Spent one night at Poseidon Oysterbay and it was wonderful! We wished we had had one more day. Even though it was busy, it was so peaceful and relaxing. The rooms, we had 2 upstairs, were basic but clean and comfortable with a stunning view over the water. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were great and especially the boss lady was brilliant! So very helpful and friendly, all comms before were prompt and informative and she went out of her way to make us feel welcome and even messaged us afterwards to ask about our son who unfortunately had been poorly during the stay. And oh, mustn't forget Tiger the dog who we all loved too! Thank you team!
