We chose this resort for a business trip. We had a two week stay with an intense workload, and wanted to base ourselves somewhere where we could both chill out and work together productively without being in town. What worked? The setting is beautiful and outstanding, as many reviews have said. It's impossible to spend any time here and not feel relaxed, and we needed that for our work. When we did have time, we could have a quick snorkel right off the beach before regrouping to work together. The rooms were spacious, the hosts were welcoming. The breakfasts were nice when we could have them, and the evening bar was a nice touch. The sound of roosters right though the night was a little distracting at first but most of us got used to it. What didn't work? Well, bearing in mind this was a business trip and the hotel isn't designed for that... - the 'hotspot' Internet (from an external monopoly provider) is awful, and the best solution was to buy mobile data from the same monopoly provider, which still wasn't great. So, it's not quite in 'digital nomad' territory yet and I wouldn't recommend it for that. If they did manage to get strong Internet there, it would be an outstanding location! - the fixed time for breakfast from 8:30 - 9:30 seemed very rigid when you consider the range of potential issues (late nights / jetlag / working during business hours) and we weren't able to negotiate anything that worked for us (when I tried, negotiations seemed to get shut down) - so for most days we bought breakfast on the way to work - for a long stay, a bit more time assigned to the cleaners would have been nice - it was more a tidying / bedmaking service, with supplies like shampoo not being replenished and the sheets not changed much. In a tropical location (having lived in the deep tropics ourselves for decades), having very clean surfaces also helps keep pests like cockroaches down, and while it was good that an airtight box was provided for food, I felt that a bit more effort there would have probably helped as one of our party had some bug issues in her room. Not related to business, but the fish curry (reviewed in glowing terms in other reviews) was off the menu and it wasn't clear why. So was the Saturday night BBQ. I may be influenced by the 'For Sale' sign, but the general impression was that the owners were trying to be very frugal with their money - understandable after the impacts of the pandemic. My review rating reflects how I would have felt had I gone there as a tourist - it's not totally business friendly but still a very interesting option for the jaded traveler! And, one minute before we all left, we had a whale breaching just offshore. Try that on a regular trip!

Gorgeous garden setting flowing right onto a beach where you are lucky to see another person passing by. Great snorkeling, great bar food at great prices, comfy nicely appointed thoughtful accom. Don't miss the fish curry for $20 - swordfish one night, marlin the next. Was given a surprise upgrade to deluxe so I could be near a friend. Adjoining decks perfect. This is a small adults venue with a personable feel vs. resort. No need for a pool. Hammocks, quiet & sheltered from occ. rain. Staff are so warm & friendly & a nightly drink at the Shipwreck Hut is a must. Steve & Geraldine are the owners. There is nothing they won't help you with. Anna is Office Manager and is the same. Just awesome people and an awesome place.

Kia Orana, Thank you so much for your amazing review. We really appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback and we're very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. It was an absolute pleasure to host you, it was even more special as you were one of our first arrivals after the frustration of the second lock-down. We really hope that you'll come back and see us very soon. Meitaki ma'ata, Steve, Geraldine and the A Team.

With Covid19, my trip was cancelled multiple times, but Geraldine and Steve were very accommodating with all the date changes and flight number changes over the nine month period before I finally managed to return. They've been very busy with the paint brushes whilst the Cooks have been closed to tourists. I made it back a few weeks after the bubble opened, so the Island was quieter than normal for obvious reasons. But the shipwreck hut still had its live music on the Tuesday and Thursday night during the week which was lovely - as was the fish curry on the menu (which I don;t remember from last time). Very friendly staff, 18+ and a great place to relax and unwind. With flights booked already, I can't wait to go back!

This trip was just after the NZ/Cook Islands bubble opened. As such, things were only just starting to open on the island. This led to 12 very lazy beach and sea days with the occasional trip into town. I've never been so relaxed in my life. highly recomended.

This was the second time my friend and I have stayed at Aro’a Beachside Inn. I’ve never stayed anywhere else in Raro and have no intention of doing so, now that I’ve stayed at Aro’a which is owned and managed by onsite owners, Steve and Geraldine, a delightful Kiwi couple (and their lovely dog Dexter), who really make the place the special place it is. Aro’a is an 'adults only' resort which would appeal to anyone wanting a quiet break, and is situated right on the white sandy beach beside the crystal clear water where it’s safe to swim and snorkel, amongst the colourful fish and coral. The units are spotlessly clean, and are well appointed for sea views and sun, and the gardens and grounds are beautifully maintained. The staff are friendly and welcoming and really help to give the place a ‘family feel’. The Shipwreck Hut & Beach Bar is the hub of the resort where a complimentary breakfast of fresh fruit and muffins is available in the mornings and drinks and delicious dinners served up in the evenings. Aro’a is definitely a resort with a difference, with a ‘homely’ feel that you don’t get at a large touristy resort. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Beautiful and well-equiped rooms, everything perfect, including the beds and the moscito-proofing :) Extremely friendly staff and owners. They found tours for us, and one of the staff sourced eggs for us while there were no eggs in the shops on the island! Excellent food - and very flexible, they made food suited for my partner's dietary requirements. Good location at one of the widest parts of the lagoon.

Beautiful sea facing small and personal. Lovely people, fun and comfortable non demanding atmosphere. Great breakfast and drinks in the beach bar. Tons of character and definitely a one off. No rowdiness just a really wonderful and rare opportunity for meeting nice people of many nationalities and to enjoy the lovely island of Raratonga. We will always remember our stay here as one of the best trips ever. Thank you all.

Lovely place on the west side of Raro. I only spent a single night here but was warmly wlecomed. The rooms have everything you need or want, the location is perfect and the hosts lovely. You can't beat the view from the bar on the beach. I didn't eat here except for breakfast. The included breakfast was lovely - fresh local fruit, coffee, toast and a pipng hot muffin. I recall reading a review on how the breakfast wasn't substantial enough. I can only imagine those particular reviewers may be used to a full buffet breakfast. It is not that, but well enough. Lovely stay.

Stayed here in February 2020, just the two of us. Wanted a quiet few days and the over 18 tag appealed to us. Absolutely fabulous place, and from the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and well cared for. The owners took time to ensure we could enjoy our short stay on Rarotonga, which was much appreciated. Fresh fruit and home baked breakfasts every day, inexpensive bar food at night also added to our enjoyment. The staff are all lovely, welcoming, friendly and helpful. You can pretty much be in the warm ocean in about 5 seconds from any of the rooms, can’t beat that👍😊! And live music several times every week, despite us being here low season. So if you’re thinking of Rarotonga, think “Aro’a Beachside” Kia Orana 😊

I can't speak highly enough about this place. Like the other reviews on here, the staff and owners were wonderful and very accommodating. The bar had AMAZING cocktails and the food was very homely and very well priced. I loved that the kitchen ran out of certain dishes, showed that the food was fresh and not mass cooked and frozen. The breakfast was far superior to the other free breakfasts on the island that we had. The small capacity meant the owners knew the people staying by name and all the other visitors became friends. Beautiful sunsets, great snorkeling and swimming. Easy access to buses and the owners/staff very knowledgable about the island and helpful letting us know how to plan our day/travel. We are only now on our last night very annoyed that we chose to break up our stay on the island and would have much rathered stayed here for the entirety of our trip. Meitaki ma'ata, we will be back!
