An excellent beginning at this well-known serenely situated, and luxurious hotel, as we received a friendly welcome after a very long journey. After a brief tour of the hotel's extremely comfortable reception rooms, uncrowded, and with contented guests warming their feet close to the log fires, I was initially a bit disappointed to be shown to our garden room, about...

Dear Alan G, thank you for your kind comments, we're happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, and to hear you feel inspired to get back to more hill walking. Helvellyn is one of the hardest in the lakes - we'd recommend you ease back into it with some of the beautiful loop walks you'd have seen from...

Four of us booked in for lunch a couple of weeks ago. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent, a warm greeting at the door on a cold winters day. We sat in the cosy lounge overlooking Ullswater to make our choices from the menu. Again, moving through to the dining room another lovely view of the lake....

Just returned from two nights at this hotel where we stayed in the garden room serenity. Absolutely fab time. The room was wonderful, the staff were very attentive and polite. Had a gorgeous meal on the first night and the breakfasts were delicious. Loved my little stay shall definitely return.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the garden rooms which is dog friendly. Beautiful large comfortable room with views onto Ullswater. We chose the Gourmet menu on both nights and were given the table in the corner on the first night which some people seem to complain about on here. However we thought it was lovely & romantic...

We were a group of 10 for lunch. The setting of this hotel on the edge of Ullswater is magical. The drawing room for pre-lunch drinks looks out over the lake and is picture book. The food was very good although not at the level at the once but no longer held Michelin star. The only negative aspect was the...

Dear reesfamily2015, firstly, thank you for your positive comments. With regard to the moving of furniture I feel there has been a misunderstanding, our Head Sommelier - who was helping you move furniture to suit your group - was only trying to bear in mind the other guests and their access and needs, as well as your own. We apologise...

Sharrow Bay is one of those rare charming country hotels having wonderful standards of hospitality, cuisine and service. Its rooms are exceptionally appointed and extremely comfortable, our room having a magnificent view over the gardens and Ullswater. Our stay was in midwinter but it didn’t matter as the hotel and their staff very much made for an unforgettable relaxing and...

I am a single traveler that has stayed at many high end hotels and eaten at many Michelin restaurants. In short my room layout and view was amazing with a free upgrade which was a nice surprise. The carpet was quite worn in places not a complaint just an observation, there were many plates and cups around the room some...

Dear ChrisB1551DO, thank you for your feedback, as we always aspire to the very best customer service I would like to address some of the points you make. I assume you are referring to our antique collections which decorate the rooms when you refer to 'broken plates and cups around the room', many of these antique ornaments have undergone restoration...

Didn't stay - thank goodness -- just lunch. A very special lunch with a very special and rather poorly friend. We were tucked away in a small alcove. We didn't mind the intimacy, but we were made to feel as though they wanted us out of sight. The smoked fish trio was, in fact, a solo salmon dish. Worst of...

Dear tiddler2016, we are sorry to hear you felt unwelcome, you were in fact given one of the most popular tables in our restaurant - it is the early Victorian architecture which dictates the spaces, not any wish on our part to 'hide' people.
