We have just had the most fabulous time staying at 1863 and enjoying the New Year's Eve taster menu and party. Starting with the accommodation, the room was beautifully kept, it was spotlessly clean and had everything we could have possibly wanted. The bed was very comfortable and even when the temperature outside hit the minus figures the room was...

Stayed here 19/12 to 24/12 for a short break following our wedding. Cannot fault the place at all. The rooms are extremely luxurious and cosy with such comfortable beds. The interior is fitted out to an extremely high standard including the bar and restaurant. The colours and decor would rival any home! It is immaculately cleaned. The food is delicious...

We really enjoyed a relaxing, cosy overnight stay. The room was nicely furnished, if a little small, and the shower room was beautiful (although the paintwork could do with a refresh). Bed was comfortable and totally silent location at night. Room was a little cool during the daytime but was a great temperature for sleeping. Very good quality complimentary refreshments...

Three of us went as we had heard good things.... we were not disappointed! Beautifully presented food with bags of flavour, portions not huge, but I have what is politely called a hearty appetite and with lovely (really lovely) bread to go with my first glass of wine the starter and main left me full enough to debate whether or...

It was dreadful weather outside, but on arriving at 1863 it was warm and cosy even though they had just experienced a power cut. Check in was simple and we were showed to our room (3) which had a lovely view. Unfortunately due to the power cut beef was off the menu as it was slow cooked for 24 hours....

The bistro at 1863 was recommended to our group of local business women and the menu on offer for a pre-Christmas meal looked enticing and good value. Our evening out more then lived up to high expectations - friendly welcome, excellent food (and wine) and a lovely atmosphere.

Our room was very comfortable and the food was fabulous, It was a short walk from the hotel to Ullswater and only a short walk onto the nearby fells. Perfect! We'd stay here again and look forward to sampling more of...
