The staff was so friendly and accommodating. They shared recipes for traditional Newfoundland food, suggested boat tours and were even going to fix us a traditional jiggs dinner, but our time ran out. Genuine friendliness we found to be the rule, not the exception both at the Cottages as well as Newfoundland in general.
The cabin was amazing! Spotlessly clean, well equipped with kitchen appliances and amenities, and the single most beautiful view from the large living room windows, that I have ever seen. Period. The large front deck on the cottages overlooks the bay and bird sanctuaries and although we were too early for the whales, late May, we saw so much wildlife, water and beautiful sunrise/sunsets, we barely missed them.
Beside our cabin sat the barbeque hut, a large building with several gas grills and picnic tables with large easy open windows to enjoy the fresh sea air and sounds while grilling your evening meal.
For me these cabins provided a spectacular place to enjoy my family, cook scrumptious meals, behold nature in it's most pristine, unspoiled glory, ponder things of an eternal nature and enjoy the company of the most sincere, kind people I have ever met: Newfoundlanders.
The cabin did not have cold running water in the kitchen, only hot water. The place was quite dirty, mould in the bathroom, stained furniture that was torn and had been fixed with staples. The curtains had not seen a cleaning in ages, damaged walls, screens that did not fit the windows ( we were given a roll of tape to close the holes). The towels were old, and fraying. the bathroom sink leaked. It just went on and on. My 8 year old cried the first night and did not want to use the shower. We were also surprised when we arrived, we found that the cabins back onto a trailer park. We were still awake at 1:00 in the morning, loud music and bad language, was not what we expected. ( the rules in the cabin guide state that no loud noise will be tolerated after 11:00) We felt mislead and let down. We scrambled to find another place to stay and a few days later were glad to leave.

The next morning, we decided to leave (3 days/nights early), but couldn't find anyone to advise (& try to get a refund...) In fact, that is/was another complaint...very unwelcoming check-in...no information re: amenities & how to get WiFi (asked a cottage guest who gave me the password). The place seems kind of deserted and semi-neglected. The restaurant/cafe is closed and the 'office' seems unstaffed most of the time (at least the times I tried to get assistance OR inform of early departure). Apparently the 'resort' (& I use the term loosely) is for sale and is being managed by some outside entity until it is sold. So, I decided to abandon my hopes of getting a $90+ cdn refund and left this sad, isolated place.

However, I have a few complaints.
The chalet was spacious and there was enough room for all 12 of us to sleep. However, the maximum "allowed" to stay at this chalet is 6, even though there is 3 double beds and several couches ALONG WITH around 8 cots that were in the closet. Makes no sense. Also, one of our friends was out on the deck early in the morning and he seen a man (who I believe is the owner) walking around the deck peeking in through the windows. I thought it was rude and big invasion of privacy. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable.
Otherwise, it was a good time and we will definitely be returning.
