Finca Luna Nueva Lodge is a sustainable rainforest eco-lodge hotel, offering an intimate experience of primary rainforest together with an organic syntropic farm. In 2003 we decided to take our promotion of sustainable practices to the next level by building several beautiful eco-lodges using fallen timber from the farm. Since then we have added a 35 foot high bamboo observation tower, a solar heated Jacuzzi, an ozonated swimming pool, and a handicapped accessible rainforest trail. Now you can experience the Costa Rican rainforest, learn about our farm's sustainable practices and relax in our rustic yet luxurious accommodations. Walk through well-groomed rain forest trails on our guided farm tours and hikes, eat gourmet meals prepared from our fresh organic garden produce, and witness the majesty of the Arenal Volcano. For adventure activity enthusiasts, we are located only 30 minutes from La Fortuna, the adventure capital of Costa Rica, and home of world famous Arenal Volcano. La Fortuna is a must see destination for anyone seeking a thrill, and our experienced staff will be more than happy to schedule all of your activities and tours for you.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay but with a few qualifications. The hotel is beautifully set, with lovely grounds and jungle trails.
We arrived after a long drive from Puerto Viejo and the staff at reception and in general were helpful and friendly. We stayed in Casa luna, the rooms are fairly basic and the sound proofing is nonexistent so expect to hear your neighbours. The lighting in the rooms isn't great, and there could be more plug sockets, and better curtains, but the room was clean. The room is cleaned every two days, whilst we were happy for towels not to be replaced daily, it would have been nice for the toilet bin to be emptied daily as toilet paper can not be put down the toilet (common in Costa Rica).
The bar/restaurant area by the pool is a lovely place to sit in the evening. We found the food to be a bit hit and miss. Even though most of the vegetables and some of the meat is grown on the finca, we weren't that impressed with the quality of the cooking (we have had tastier versions of traditional Costa Rican meals at other restaurants). Breakfast was good but things ran out quite quickly and took a while to be replenished. Also food, fruits, butter and jam were not covered well and there are lots of flies.
The finca is a 30 minute drive from la Fortuna on very windy roads, so it is a bit of a trek if you want to go out for dinner as there are not great options nearby. Also if you want to do activities most of the companies in la Fortuna will only pick you up for a fee as you are not close enough for local pickup.
Notwithstanding the above the finca is very laid back and beautiful and we felt very relaxed there so would recommend if you don't mind being quite so far away from what la Fortuna has to offer.

Fantastic experience! The location and grounds are well kept. Everything is very clean. The food is amazing- grown on the farm nearby. They make their own juice and ginger syrup which they use in their smoothies. The staff are exemplary- every one of them is friendly and caring. The on site tours are excellent- I had great experiences taking the night walk, the morning bird walk, and the farm tour. You can see toucans, guans and many birds and wildlife without ever leaving. Highly recommend!

Kind and professional staff, beautiful natural surroundings, high standard of cleanliness, fantastic ethos around sustainability and taking care of the natural world, interesting and informative tours on offer on site, wonderful help provided in organising off site tours too. The restaurant serves wholesome food and drinks in generous portions with a focus on farm to table… The whole place oozes calm, beauty and celebrates the natural world. The restaurant/bar and pool area are inviting and sympathetic to the natural surroundings. A place where families, couples and singles can all enjoy a holiday that is as relaxing or as adventurous as your appetite demands!

Whilst the location is a 30min drive from La Fortuna town, or 60min from Arenal Volcano area, it was still worth the drive each day for activities.
I stayed above the reception area, whilst it may have been noisy on occasions, it didn’t bother me as the bed was so comfortable, along with fan or a/c if needed. Plus the WiFi was mostly great too, which is a bonus. The shower was one of the best I’ve had in Costa Rica, with great pressure and temperature.
The buffet breakfast had a decent selection and I enjoyed the buffet dinner, with very healthy fresh ingredients.
I loved lying in balcony hammock every afternoon / evening listening to nature around me, wish I could’ve stayed longer.
The walk around the farm was nice, although didn’t get to venture up the bamboo tower as it was locked.
I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

Our stay here was fantastic! It’s a true jungle experience. Our room was a cute cottage with a king bed and view of the jungle. AC worked great as well as shower. They supply organic shampoo and body wash. Lots of room for parking near each set of cottages.
Restaurant on site was very good. Reasonable drink prices and farm to table food. Breakfast is included and you can get made to order eggs. Never had lunch there but menu had a large variety of choices. Dinners are a limited menu each night but a good variety and everything we had was fresh and very tasty. Staff there is very friendly.
Rained every day so we never used the pool but it’s right by the restaurant/bar and has a calming waterfall at one end.
Did two tours they offer. The farm tour and the night mystery tour. Highly recommend both. They have rubber boots you can use for the tours as well as any hiking you want to do on the property.
Note that they are into everything natural so there is no soda available on the premise. I drank the home made ginger ale instead which was very good. Or there’s always beer or mixed drinks!
There are a couple of close towns for other eating options. La Fortuna is about a 30 min drive.
I would highly recommend this place. It gave us a very unique experience.

What an exceptional experience. I came with my husband and 3 kids (ages 5, 3 and almost 2). The farm is a dream. What you would imagine a pure, clean mountain/jungle to be. You can’t help it but to be in love with nature and all it’s magic when at this farm.
The only thing that makes the lodge even better than it is is the staff. Every single person was friendly, kind and very accommodating to our very rambunctious kids. We did the farm walk and sampled many native fruits and trees/salads. The guide, Carlos, was very patient while walking with our slow and complaining kids. The pineapple juice at the end of the walk was like drinking sweet honey.
We also did the milking the cow tour. Danny was very friendly while taking us on the tour and was very knowledgeable of not only farm life but also about the cows. Jose is the main person that is responsible for the cows and all of their maintenance and he was also very patient with the kids. Milking the cows was very surreal experience and reminded me that we should be thankful everyday for these life luxuries.
Danny was kind enough to take us on golf cart rides everyday which was the highlight of our kids’ day.

It is a great experience to have with your family and it is a great place to stop by. For a family of five like ours, it is a great place to visit because there is a swimming pool, free WiFi, free parking, free and great breakfast, lunch and dinner. Staff is very friendly. We spent a week over Thanksgiving at Finca Luna Nueva with our 7 month old and it by far exceeded all of our expectations. We arrived very late at night and the lovely security guard was there to greet us and show us to our room. There we found a crib all set up in our room and a decorative towel/flower display for the adults. The beds were comfy and the sound of the rain on the roof put us right to sleep.
The next morning we started out with the all you can eat complementary breakfast and it was unreal. The majority of the food is right from the regenerative farm of the property and is some of the freshest we’ve ever had. We will be dreaming of the plantains, pineapple, and ice cream fruit for years to come. Every meal we had in the restaurant was diverse and divine.
The property itself is extremely gorgeous and hard to peel yourself away because everything is so close and so nice (pool, yoga studio, cafe/bar, and hiking trails). If you wanted a location you could just plop down and relax and not have to worry about planning anything else…this is it.
Plus the on-site tours are incredible. We did the chocolate tour and the farm tour and both were a 10! The guides were super informative and friendly. Highly recommend!
If you are up for exploring La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano areas this resort is in a great location for those too. Everything seems to be within 30-1hr drive away.
In all honesty we’ve been trying to find our new Bali that is closer to our home in the US. Luckily we have found it and plan to come back to Finca Luna Nueva for years to come!

Staying at Finca Luna Nueva Lodge was one of the best experiences we have ever had when traveling and we travel quite a lot. This place is just special, so tranquil and quiet. The nature around is amazing. The pool was nice and the restaurant was beautiful. The food was just fantastic and very affordable. There was a wide selection of healthy juices and smoothies. What they do in the farm is just incredible. The staff is very kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good, quality food and drinks and cares about nature and environment.
