Hotel il Fondaccio is a small gem in the Bolognese Appenine. Family owned for over 100 years, the owners are welcoming, kind, and offer simple but fine rooms in a setting overlooking a magnificent forested valley. This is the kind of place one dreams of finding, but rarely does: a simple family run spot that manages to deliver on nearly every level. There is a lovely pool open in summer. And the kitchen, run by the patriarch of the family, offers the best cooking I’ve ever eaten at a pensione. Anyone staying who does not opt for half board is making a mistake. The meals are extraordinary, using the freshest ingredients and cooked with love. I am longing to go back for another dinner at Il Fondaccio. Thank you to lovely Linda and her family. We will return! Absolutely terrific place to stay. Linda and her team cannot do enough for guests and provide a really excellent all round experience. From booking horse-riding lessons for children to organising birthday celebrations (2) and parasailing for our eldest daughter from a nearby mountain. The food in the restaurant is exceptionally good and one of the highlights of our trip was a 7 course lunch during a local festival. We were made to feel very welcome and the hotel is an excellent base for walking in the mountains, cycling everywhere, exploring the many local villages and towns and of course just relaxing by the wonderful swimming pool. Would definitely recommend the hotel to friends and will return for sure. Special mention for Rosy - thank you for looking after us!

We stayed for 2 nights as part of a 7 day walking holiday. From the moment we stepped through the door, we knew we had arrived at a very special place. Linda made us feel very welcome & our room had the most spectacular view of the amazing scenery. The pool in the garden was so inviting, with plenty of sun loungers to relax on after many hours hiking in very hot weather. The meals at this hotel were superb, with everything prepared with such care & attention.

Stayed here for three nights as part of a seven-night walking tour. We stayed in a spacious annex at he bottom of the garden, with breath-taking views of the valleys. The annex was charmingly rustic and very clean. Linda greeted us with cake and drinks, which set the tone for the stay. Evening meals were delicious and the family did a brilliant job of catering for us as vegetarians - lots of delicious courses, paired with amazing regional wines - nothing like the Lambrusco we get at home. Nothing was too much effort. The beauty of this hotel is the tranquility of its surroundings, but if you do fancy a nightcap, there are a few bars just a short walk away in the village.

We arrived here in a party of 10 American family members as part of a walking tour of the Appenines. Linda was warm and welcoming, the hotel is beautiful, and offers a stunning view of the green ridges and valleys of the area from bedrooms as well.as from the secluded and elegant poolside. This is the first review I have posted online and I'm doing it because Linda deserves a hotelier Hall .of Fame nomination. The homemade dinner we were served left the expensive meals we'd had in Florence in the dust. She personally served our party, handling individual food restrictions with ingenuity and grace. Each course .was fresh, flavorful and inventive. The fruit and cheese board allowed us to fill our.pockets with ripe cherries and apricots as we headed to bed. But that's all standard excellence. Where she triumphed was in her clutch response to a water shutoff at the next hotel on our itinerary. She booked us for an impromptu night 2 here and helped us improvise a new itinerary, arranged bike rental, found an extra bike in a friend's garage, then arranged additional transfers for evening plans. Such over the top service, and all with a friendly can-do spirit, assisted by her parents. We are grateful and impressed. Highly recommend a visit to this picturesque area of rolling g foothills and peaks,.and to this hotel in particular. For us Americans, fond though we are of our countrymen, it's nice to escape to a place with very few American tourists.

We had a very large room beyond the main building and close to the swimming pool. The shower room was very stylish with a fantastic glass basin. Dinners were excellent, as was breakfast. Linda and Massimo were excellent hosts and we would willingly stay here again.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a walking trip. Our room was separate from the main building in the garden. Very peaceful with its own private terrace area outside with long chairs to sit and read or admire the view Dinners were excellent and our hosts charming and very helpful in answering all our questions

Charming family-run hotel near centre of town but not too near! Large comfortable room with all necessary amenities. Fabulous food - home cooked, local specialities. We were made to feel "at home" and really looked after. This was part of a walking holiday in the Apennines and it was a really welcoming place to come back to after a good day's hiking in the beautiful countryside nearby.

There is a lovely family feel about the hotel. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful (they drove us to the start of our hike and came to collect us with no charge at all). There is a large sunny balcony that has a wonderful view over the mountains. I would throughly recommend it.
