Cholson Chalets lies in front of à very busy street. The wooden house has thin walls and windows that do not close: in your room, you can hear all that the neighbours of the other areas say and do! And, as we expérienced, if the neighbour above you, is a drunkerd who spends his days shouting/moving furniture around, your stay can become a nightmare: the owner, called Penny, did not much to help us; she said ' I am not à psychologist and your neighbour is a paying guest'.

Perfectly placed studios and flats at the pier in Man O War Bay. 20 min walk to Pirate’s Bay - one of the most beautiful and least visited in Caribbean Sea. We stayed in a well maintained studio with use of outside front seating. Everything worked well. Supermarket for everyday food and drinks in neighbour house. Wifi ok. Beverly attended us well. Charlotteville is a lovely and quiet fishing village with just a few tourists.

The Cholson Chalets and the romantic fishing village of Charlotteville are sound, movement, and creativity personified; you can't quite separate the magnetism of one from the other. As I write this review, I'm sitting on the balcony of the Honeymoon Suite overlooking Bay Street and the ocean, just five steps away. It's a rainy, grey day and it's still beautiful! Here, the lullaby of waves and the living sounds, sights, and scents of the fishing village, which include everything from fishing boats and pelicans sputtering about the Man of War Bay to the sounds of live music and food preparation effervescing from neighborhood bars and kitchens, punctuate your days and nights with delightful diversions. But the sensory pleasures don't end there. If you were to cross to the other side of Bay Street and face the Cholson Chalets, you are greeted by a riot of green dappled with vivid color! The mountains, home to the Main Ridge Rainforest reserve, the oldest reserve of its kind in the world, rise stately behind the Chalets, their verdant slopes dotted by homes of every color and style. The garden of the Chalets mirrors this kaleidoscopic display with potted plants and garden troughs spilling with succulents, patterned crotons, and brilliant flowers. And these visual pleasures from the fishing village, mountains, and gardens continue with the Cholson Chalets' suites themselves! From the charming white of the buildings, green moldings, and accent walls that complement the natural surroundings, to stained wooden floors and vintage ornamental fretwork, the Cholson Chalets are, all at once, reminiscent of an old railway station, prairie house, and your grandparents' home. Inside, the thoughtful touches further the feeling that you belong here — and that this is HOME. The freshly picked floral arrangements, local artwork, chandeliers that cast warm candlelit glows, and antique wooden furnishings paired with modern appliances are the backdrop to breezy living spaces that marry the comfort of home with the adventure of being transported to another time where everyday feels like the weekend. The Cholson Chalets truly embody the essence of the statement "home away from home." Whether you stay indoors for quiet days of reading, writing, painting, or some other creative activity or indulge in one of the curated activities ranging from sightseeing and bird watching to deep sea diving and boat tours, there is always some sound and movement to keep you entertained and enlivened. The Chalets are the perfect place for creativity, clarity, presence, and renewal. Each vintage suite is prepared with love and falling in love with the space, the people, the village, and yourself are a guarantee after your stay here. Come to the Cholson Chalets and return home.

I adore this place and it a made me fall in love with Charlotteville! This place is pretty close to paradise for me, beautiful gardens, antique furniture and architecture, ventilation for constant fresh airflow and most importantly ocean at my doorstep! Although infrastructure is a bit dated, this is what gives this place its charm but simple and clean amenities are provided. Cholson is ideally situated across from Man Of War Bay (long and beautiful beach) or you can hike, drive or hire a tour to heavenly Pirate's Bay! In Charlotteville everything is in walking distance and available from pleasant locals.

Cholson chalets are set at one end of this lovely bay, cross the small road and you are in the sea, or you can watch the fishing boats coming and going. idyllic? well nearly. The front chalets are a traditionally built Tobagoan house, a timber frame with planking nailed to the outside, and a corrugated iron roof. There is no air conditioning, but a constant breeze and ceiling/wall fans keep you cool, though it takes a short while to acclimatise. Fittings are basic but clean, bed and bed linen clean and fresh and was changed mid week. The apartment we had could do with a sofa/easy chair as the existing chairs are a bit on the hard side. You can either swim from outside the property , or walk round to the mainly deserted Pirate bay, in fact you can swim round there in a few minutes, I would advise a snorkel to enjoy the reef on your way round. Charlotteville is a sleepy fishing village set on a sweeping palm fringed bay, a few mini-marts for your basic provisions, and of course fresh fish. A couple of restaurants the other end of the bay and one bar about 20yrds from the chalet. And here is the rub. The bar has recently been taken over and the new owner thinks that playing loud music from midday to midnight is a wonderful way of getting customers though there never seemed to be anyone there. This noise drills through the chalets and unless you are going to bed late stops sleep even with earplugs. Plus on Friday nights there is even louder music with even heavier base that goes on until about 5.00am, this comes from the other end of the bay but still drowns out the bar, and on the Saturday we were there, there seemed to be a car meet where the youths came with their sound systems to compete as to who has the loudest and heaviest base, which literally shook the building. I believe this is not regular. Cholson chalets would be close to simple bliss if it were not for the noise, and I regret I would not stay there again unless the noise had abated. On the plus side I had no problem with mozzies, perhaps they can't stand the noise either.

Second time in Cholson last time upstairs but was told by Pat only downstairs free. So booked sea view downstairs. Turned up on allotted day luckily Dawn the cleaner was there had no idea we were coming! She rang Pat the owner she’s 80 you know said Dawn. Oh yes the Batts no room upstairs so downstairs it was. Sea view yes if you opened the front door! Straight onto the street good job I like talking to people. Don’t get me wrong it’s amazing you certainly meet the locals who are all friendly. Inside it’s a bit hit and miss door missing so out of shower(crap) to be seen by all from the kitchen window. We hung a towel over it. Unless you eat outside in communal area it’s a bit cave like. Handles missing on pots and pans unplug fridge to plug toaster in. WiFi that didn work at all(not all bad had to go to Grays bar for it) Still like Charlotteville just not downstairs. To top it all no one arrived upstairs whilst we were there. Needs a bit of a lift.

My partner and I stayed for a weekend in the small apartment fronting the beach road - five steps from the beach - our friends visited for a day and we all liked it so much we booked the larger cottage for a group stay a couple of weekends later. Great location, historic fishermen's cottages lovingly maintained in their original condition.

We spent 7 nights at Cholson Chalet and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The accommodations are quaint, charming and comfortable....and serve as a perfect setting in this quiet fishing village. You can get the feel of the entire town while sitting out on the balcony and watching the activities unfold during the day. We had an upper unit with ocean view, and it was lovely! The kitchen is adequately stocked with dishes, cookware, utensils, coffee pot, toaster, water kettle, etc. The fridge/freezer worked great! We thoroughly enjoyed cooking our dinners most evenings while sipping on rum and cokes and/or ice cold Carib beers. If you are a foody, you might want to bring some of your own favorite spices, coffee, seasonings, etc. The bedding is comfortable and clean, and there is plenty of storage space to hang clothing in each of the bedrooms. We slept with the windows open every evening and eventually became accustomed to the sound of the waves every day/night. We didn't have any street noise, perhaps because of the time of year (early March). There is a "TV" room with cable which we rarely watched, but it worked just fine. The bathroom included a nice large shower with perfectly great hot water and pressure. The plumbing was perfect as well (unlike some of the other islands we have visited). Water is drinkable and tastes fine. We didn't bother to buy bottled water (beer serves that purpose after 4 pm, right?). There is a convenience store right next door that offers a nice variety of supplies such as rice, juice, milk, sauces, seasonings, etc. In addition, there are several fruit stands with fresh fruit such as bananas, pineapple, mango...and some veggies as well. There are also several tiny little shops that offer various staples, so I tried to "support" them as well during our visit. We were not bothered at all with bugs...and trust me, I am a bug magnet. This is the first island vacation that I haven't been affected (and infected) with bug bites. I suspect the bugs might be "seasonal" depending on rainfall. There is a clothesline for for hanging out clothes/swimwear/dive suits, etc, which is very handy. Our apartment also had a line on the entry "porch", so that was also convenient. Charlotteville is a fairly quiet fishing village that seems content to do business as it has always been done. The town doesn't cater to tourists (fine with me), and many businesses are closed on weekends (including restaurants), so plan your meals and activities knowing what the weekend schedule does or doesn't offer. We traveled there with the plan of diving 6 days, and we were not disappointed. The diving was fantastic, and we were happy to return to our "home" after a good day of diving out of Speyside (about 10 minute drive up and over to the other side). Watching the local fishermen clean/sell fish is quite entertaining, but please note, they do not like to have their pictures taken. I asked nicely and was firmly told "no" each time...I am not sure why, other than perhaps they want to keep their fishing village a secret. I was disappointed, as the bantering, chattering, shouting, and laughter was truly marvelous to watch, and I would have enjoyed sharing those pictures with my family at home. Pirates Bay is a nice little hike, and it is beautiful. Cholson Chalet is situated near the start of the the walk to the bay and it is well marked. There is a little fruit stand there that sells juice, fruit etc, so take along a few bucks to support the local economy. The beach is quiet and peaceful..well worth the 15 minute walk. There are plenty of little places to grab a bite to eat for lunch/dinner...or to buy a cheap beer, and there are several choices for more traditional dining (except on weekends). We enjoyed "Sharon's" which is outdoor seating on the upper level of a B&B as well as the "Suckhole"...which is a beach bar serving up large portions for lunch (they usually closed around 4 pm, and were not open on Sunday). The fish and chips and stewed chicken were excellent! We made our own simple breakfast of eggs/toast, as there did not appear to be any businesses open for breakfast (and there certainly were not any coffee shops...good for them!!) We hired a cab at the airport for getting to Charlotteville...the cost was $65 US plus tip. We made arrangements through our newly made "local" friend to have one of his friends drive us back to the airport...giving us a bit of a tour and pointing out the sites of the island. The cost was $85 plus tip, which we thought was very reasonable. Cholson Chalet can also assist you with airport transfers. Cholson Chalet was perfect for our vacation, and I recommend this spot for couples, friends, or small families who are looking for safe, comfy, and unique accommodations for enjoying this special area.

We stayed in one of the two bedroom apartments downstairs. Pretty and spacious apartment right at the waterfront. Very good beds and well equipped kitchen. Like mentioned by reviewers before: do bring earplugs cause there is a lot of noise from the street! Despite the streetnoise defjnately recommended!
