Hodges Bay is lovely resort with two beaches. One beach is on the location and the other is on Prickly Pear Island accessible by motor boat. The boat leaves often. Our room overlooked the ocean and had a lovely spacious terrace. we surprise to the sound of the waves. The bed abs furnishings were up to date and comfortable. The hotel restaurant serves three meals a day and breakfast is included. The hotel staff is very helpful polite and friendly. They can advise you on excursions. We took several excursions amd especially enjoyed our trip to Barbuda to see the mating Frigate Birds. Le Bistro is an excellent restaurant nearby. Transportation can be arranged and driving on island is sketchy, roads are rough.
This hotel is the perfect holiday hotel . A private beach along with a private island you can visit. An infinity pool with bar, beach towels, open night club, restaurant with good menu. Staff are welcoming & friendly. The art work is outstanding and worth a visit just to see these sculptures and visual arts.
After a family trip for a week during peak season, I assess that this property is a jewel of a resort, but still rough around the edges. They have a great staff who aim to please and the physical property offers gorgeous and abundant outdoor spaces and large villa style rooms. Even though the beach is narrow they have a small private island for swimming, snorkeling or just for lunch or daytime cocktails. The physical plant could be made to shine and management says they are working to make that happen. But it’s going to require a lot of finishing touches to address basic issues: not enough furniture to make rooms fully useable and comfortable, and many missing basic amenities like makeup mirrors and lounger covers. Still, the staff were great and helped us with reservations daily, the spa treatments were wonderful and the food and drinks were generally good. We were upgraded at arrival which was wonderful and appreciated.…
Checked in. Took payment in full upon check in and room was not as expected. Rusty, dirty couch, tiny beds for couples. Did little to remedy the situation. Do not pay what is asked. It’s a joke. Feels very time-share scam like.
My husband and I stayed at Hodges Bay for our honeymoon recently and had a lovely experience. The grounds are absolutely stunning, the staff are very friendly, the shared amenities are very nice and Prickly Pear was a really cool bonus to have access to. We also enjoyed hanging at the beach bar with Unique and the team learning more about the island. However, there were some noticeable things that were frustrating to deal with on such a special occasion. It felt a but like the hotel puts a lot of effort into the lobby, decor, pool and shared areas, but the room itself lacked much thought. The bathroom sliding door was broken, the blinds came off track, the vents in the bathroom did not work, one of the shower heads was broken and the TV was extremely difficult to navigate and had major reception issues. The other disappointing thing was the lack of options on the resort. We were under the impression that there would be multiple restaurants and a lounge on site, but during our stay only 1 of the restaurants was open likely because of how few guests were there. A few days into the stay they decided to close the only restaurant available to us for "renovations" and offer dinning in the lobby instead. It felt pretty repetitive only having 1 menu to choose from and eat in the lobby for the duration of the stay so we tried to eat off the resort when possible. The final thing was that we asked for a late checkout because we had an evening flight and were told for to check back later and we could possibly pay a fee to do that. After following up several times we were denied the late checkout 10 minutes before we needed to be out of the room with no explanation even though the resort was totally dead. This was not the end of the world by any means, but frustrating to be in the dark and not feel that we were being very accommodated. Hopefully management can pay more attention to the rooms and offer more options to their future guests because the resort itself is lovely.…
The room and view was amazing. This is my 3rd trip to Hodges Bay and each time it gets better and better. Prickly Pear is a new added amenity. I cannot wait to go back! The food, drinks, butler service, spa services...all top notch!
Visited in November 2022 for a couples trip. Hopefully the management doesn’t take this review down as they did with some of the other reviews. This resort is closer to being a 3* than a 4*. There’s a systemic misunderstanding as to what good customer service encompasses. Let me start with pros (there’s not too many). + Service at the beach bar from Annastaccia was great. She took the time and effort to speak to the guests. The rest of the staff epitomises the management of the hotel - it’s sloppy, oftentimes rude and inconsiderate. + Prickly Pear is a big selling point among guests and visitors. It’s a little white sand beach with fantastic views. As much as I don’t mind loud music and a bit of fun, blasting music to the point your eardrums are about to pop misses the point of having a beautiful lounge area especially when you’re paying close 10$ for a Carib. + The breakfast is decent and the breakfast staff are kind. Again, closer to a 3* and not 4*. The cons: - The rooms do not reflect the pictures at all. There is an overwhelming smell of damp. The rooms are not cleaned daily and you have to beg to have your bottles of water restocked. This is an old hotel in a desperate need of renovation. - The staff is sassy, borderline rude. Compared to the other establishments in the island such as Sheer Rocks or Catherine’s, the staff is deaf to any suggestions for improvement. It’s no surprise that some of the staff from Hodges Bay express their willingness to leave the hotel to other guests. - The beach is slightly disappointing. It’s practically impossible to swim at the hotel beach due to the seaweed. - There’s only one restaurant open and it has very limited options. You are unlikely to eat on-site. - The hotel site is in a state of deteriorating - the swimming pool has not been cleaned in weeks, there’s mould growing on the walls including the view from the sun beds. Personally, I would feel more comfortable if the hotel advertised itself as a 3* to properly reflect its current state and work on improving the conditions for its guests. Unfortunately with management that is deaf to any constructive feedback, and one that consistently removes bad reviews, this is unlikely to improve.…
Stunning hotel well laid out over a large area with two separate swimming pools. The one by the sea was infinity and had a large bar at the end for drinks. The rooms are spacious and plentiful staff on tap for your every need. Well-manicured gardens and a fabulous restaurant we tried with an excellent chef producing simple but really high-quality fresh food at a very reasonable price right beside the ocean. The breakfast included, served in the same restaurant, was equally large and varied to suit all tastes, again with excellent service thank you. We had a memorable stay thank you.
This resort has great potential - and could totally be a 5 star resort if some changes were made. The location, styling, and set up is beautiful. The 2 bed/2bath villas were perfect for our needs and the actual rooms get 5-stars in my book. Pros: - cozy beach, lovely pools, swim up bar - infinity edge hot tub overlooking ocean - Prickly Pear island - when it was open - Front desk staff and butlers. Special shout outs to Chantelle and Craig for the extra help. - Food was pretty good Cons: - 2 of 3 restaurants were closed. There was nothing notated on the website. Food options were pool bar, or the one restaurant - both with limited menus. - Prickly Pear was really cute, but nothing was consistent with the time it was open/closed for the day. - There was a fitness retreat group there and the resort catered to them over guests. Our friend got kicked out of the gym mid-workout bc the retreat group wanted to use it. - One of our villas did not have hot water for 3 out of the 4 nights. After many many phone calls, the manager did compensate us for our hardship after the 4th night - which we certainly appreciate - No kids/teen club staffed/open even though the website stated otherwise - pools not heated & were chilly - Lots of rust - especially on large retaining wall by the ocean. This is really an eye sore and needs to be addressed. - Some of the restaurant and pool bar staff were downright surly. This was a drastic difference to the front desk and butler staff who were wonderful.…
Ok, so I have stayed in Hodges Bay in 2019. When they were just building and paid $320 for ocean front room for 3 people. We had 1 bedroom suite. Cons: Very pleasant staff. Beautiful rooms with modern furniture. Cleanliness – 8 out of 10. Beautiful pool area. Yoga area. Nice breakfast area. Beach service 10 out of 10. Soft lounge chairs, and quite a few private areas. Very nice bar with changing lights at night, and live music. Beach is very nice. Sunsets are beautiful there. You can safely swim at night; water is soft and calm. Almost no waves. Cons: Limited staff service in room. Limited choice for breakfast – hotel had lox only 2 days out of 5 days we stayed. Even though breakfast is free, it is not really. Your choice of coffee varies of the charge. Restaurant of “fusion” at the hotel really mixes up some unmixable ingredients and serve as a meal. I ordered a salad for over $16 plus gratuity of 18% at least, and taxes… and I got drops of different dressings on sides of the plate, a couple of pieces of crab meat, thinly cut reddish, and something else, I could not figure it out. None of this made sense to me. The soup was very different from what we used to in NY and NJ as for the fusion… Very limited choice of food. We ordered taxy every day for dinner to different places to eat after day 1. If you forgot your toothbrush, you would need to get a taxy to go to a store at another hotel to be able to buy it. I would give them higher star, but I think that travelers, who pay such high prices for flights and work so hard to vacation, especially with children, deserve to pay fair price for the stay, food, and service. Hodges bay does not show for $1100 per night for ocean front room during high season. Stay elsewhere. I understand that management at the hotel may think different, and they invested a lot in this property, but for Antigua, they need to lower the prices for travelers, who have plenty other choices of great stay there.…
