It was my first time to Antigua. Came to a friends wedding. I booked on bookings.com and picked the most affordable place as I was only going to be staying for a short time.
Well I was surprised with Antigua - in many ways.
First, the people are super friendly, easy going, and laid back. Our host, Prince, was awesome. He was very communicative before I arrived, giving me info and reminders of the trip. He's the highlight of our stay (second to our wedding reception). 40xCD per trip to and from airport. Originally I was going to take a taxi but when I was at customs, the agent asked me for an address. I couldn't find it online or anywhere in the info Prince sent me. The agent ended up calling Prince to pick us up as he was afraid we'd get lost. Oddly, I still can't find an address for his guesthouse!
Second, the guest house is super clean and tidy. Prince and his daughter look after the place and take a lot of pride on comfort of his guests. Don't expect a typical N. American BnB. This is Antigua after all so set your expectations accordingly. The guest house consists of two rooms, both with king bed. The house itself is small (of course compared to N. American). Fully Air conditioned strong WiFi, small fridge and microwave in the room, shared bathroom, shared kitchen. There is a small veranda that only one person can use at a time, but we never had any issue even with the other guest staying. TV has 'cable' but it didn't work during the day. If you like hot showers, take it at night and expect it to be a short one! The guesthouse is not in the centre city. It's about a 15 min walk through a residential area. It's safe but just be warned it might seem your walking through a bad area of town. Last, it's pretty noisy. Late at night there is load music and the last morning a neighbour decided to have a live jam session! Music was good though.
Third, as a country that relies heavily on tourism, I was surprised to see the area closest to the cruise ship ports to be so .... Run down. Streets were pretty nasty in terms of dirt and trash (a bit sad to see this but not different than a big metro city anywhere in the world), buildings are old, run down, lots of street vendors and pan handlerings.
Since I did come and attend a wedding, the venue was on a private resort - Sheer Rock, Coco Bay. Wow! Stark contrast to the main city. Prince told us it's a swanky place but there are even more swanky resorts on this beautiful island.
Price of food etc is pretty on par to N.America. Most things are imported so it makes sense. I'm not sure converting to xcd makes a huge difference.
Overall, if your on a budget or want a different experience but also a great host, come here!

Positive: host was mannerly. Our room looked clean. Pictures do not tell truth. Bathroom is an approx. 4 x 3 foot cubicle with toilet, bath and sink inside. The property was a small cared for looking wooden house, in a city village neighborhood. We visited with another couple due cancelled flight. Both of us, (couples), felt uncomfortable driving into neighborhood, more uncomfortable while waiting for front area to be emptied before entering the house. The room we were provided looked clean with a fan and A/C. Downside is that it was small, the air freshener so strong my wife got ill and bathroom, sorry to mention again but it stuck with us big time. We used the internet to find a hotel and find transport to pick us up even though it costs more than we possibly planned for. We advised the hosts we were comfortable and were leaving. He charged us $20 USD each for transport and allowed us to wait in the patio as opposed to curb as he had to leave. The other couple that we came with were also leaving. it was a very uncomfortable 5min wait for our ride to pick us up. Apologies to my wife for putting her through that. Through it all host was gracious in his speech. Advice - be prepared for reality before you get there. Willing to sign in and upload all over again

The location of this guesthouse is perfect as a base in Antigua, or even to wander around St Johns day or night. There are two routes to walk into town. 15min walk down past the gas station will take you to the supermarket, markets and West bus station, and 15mins heading right will take you to the port, gift shops and food outlets. The guesthouse is on a residential street in a residential area, and make no mistake it is a very safe and friendly area! It can be noisy with the wildlife ( dogs, roosters and tree frogs) and noise from passing cars with music blasting out day and night, but welcome to Antigua where you will hear this everywhere, and it just adds to the experience! Prince is the most hard working Man we have met in a guesthouse setting! Prince is constantly looking at ways to improve the guest experience and after staying there for a month, we are in a position to say that he genuinely cares for his guests and chases people constantly to sort out repairs, and limit inconvenience to people. The guesthouse is spotlessly clean thanks to Prince and his housekeeper Miss Jacobs. We are happy to call them friends after the care we have received. Prince will arrange transport and advise/help book trips etc. Set your expectations to the fact that you are staying at a guesthouse where other guests come and go, you will have use of the communal kitchen and outside space, but will have your own private bathroom facilities. We used this setting as a way to meet new people and listen to their life experiences from all walks of life and from many different countries. We absolutely without a doubt will stay with Prince when we next visit Antigua. Thanks for the opportunity to meet you and Miss Jacobs.

**DO NOT BOOK FROM THEM!!** Non-existent communication and terrible customer service!!! I booked a room with them weeks in advance before my arrival, they informed there were issues with my credit card (the same one I used to book every single night of my journey with no issues whatsoever), I updated the informations and asked them whether everything was good. I also told them if there were any issues I would have payed cash (it was listed as a payment option on their page). Never received a reply. I messaged them twice more to make sure everything was fine and still no reply. I messaged them again to book their airport transfer and they agreed to pick me up at the airport. They ended up cancelling my booking without even informing me while I was on the plane. On my arrival I called them 5 times and sent them 20x messages since they had agreed to pick me up at the airport. They never picked up and left me on visualised. Incredibly rude behaviour. Plese be aware of these people, you could end up like me alone in the airport with no place to go (also no free wi-fi or currency exchange at the aiport so not the best situation!!).

It was one of the worst places we have ever been. Contacting was really bad or it didn’t exist at all. We asked many times if the owner was going to pick us up from the airport, but we didn’t get a good answer the day before we arrived. (We had already paid for the transportation.) When we arrived at the airport he didn’t answer at all. A taxi driver called him and finally he came almost two hours late. He had said to the taxi driver that he overslept.
When we went to the gesthouse, our room wasn’t ready, after 8 pm! He started to clean our room and we got it after nine. We immediately noticed that the room was not the one we had booked. He said that there is only one room available, and that the rooms are all the same (which is a lie). We could either take it or leave, in which case he would return our money. If you are tired and in a new city you don’t want to look for a new accomodation at that time at night. So we took the room.
Next morning he came and told us my credit card was not working! I had paid for the room almost one month ago. So he was doing something behind our backs, and canceled our second day reservation. We had to leave from the accomodation. He lied to us all the time. So, be very careful if you are booking that accomodation!!! I can’t recommend that place!!! Only one good thing, we got back our money of the second day booking.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great budget facility in a good location for access to St Johns, made all the better by the excellent service of the owner Prince who went 'above and beyond' to assist us!
The place was spotlessly clean, well run with good Covid-19 protocols and protections in place. There are some shared facilities that were limited due to Covid restrictions, but these did not detract from a great experience!.
