Arrived from another resort which I have also reviewed. It’s never really good to book a hotel based on the fact it has a nice cat but I always miss my own when Iam away and I liked the fact the hotel supported local primary schools and wanted to give my money to a genuine local business. The reviews said it was quiet too and I was really looking forward to an authentic Antiguan owned hotel. My room was next to reception which I didn’t realised closed early, however I’m very glad I did ask to move because I was informed a band was playing in the restaurant. Coz of time difference I wanted plenty of rest not a band literally outside my door I needed bed early most nights and the previous reviews said you could go to English Harbour for nightlife etc. It’s a holiday right? and I def needed plenty of rest. I changed to room 7 which had a super comfy bed just for one night however the music could still be heard and I couldn’t fall asleep till it ended I may as well have gone anyway. The next night I had room 8 and guess what yep more live music again I had a bad nights sleep there is also a huge fridge which probably could feed 10 people for 3 months which was noisy all night and some kind of noisy air con I think from the back of room in car park area. Anyway brekkie - now this was awful I was told tea, coffee or juice, given a small pot of hot water I asked for a juice but was told NO it’s tea, coffee or juice. Told also to use coffee creamer in my tea - but did ask and got a small jug of milk hurrah! There is no way this brekkie was continental it was a few pieces of fruit 2 orange slices, one lemon slice and some apple, there was a toasted bagel, jam and some fried potato. I did actually get a second cup of tea - hurrah! Now the next day I had used the 2 English brekkie teas and they hadn’t been restocked I mistakenly opened another tea sachet which said Te and poured in hot water. Realising my mistake I asked (I think was owner Ffeona?) for another pot of hot water and English breakfast tea she told me ‘YOU ONLY GET ONE CUP’ when I told her that the day before I had two she said the waitress was BEING GENEROUS !! ! she then shouted to someone at the back ‘SHE WANTS MORE TEA’ How rude I’m. solo guest paying for the room if I had another person with they would have had to make another breakfast. So rude. Again they tried to fob me off with coffee creamer. Look I need a decent cup of tea that’s all. That kind of service is just not acceptable. The next day an American guest when asked tea, coffee or juice asked for orange juice - simple right? Only to be told no orange juice really ? Come on! I can’t understand this being called a boutique hotel. Next day I had some bacon and 2 eggs which I paid extra for and again was directed to the ‘coffee creamer’, look that wouldn’t kill me but surely a boutique hotel would provide a bit of fresh milk. The bathroom handrail had a horrible brown stain which fortunately I think was rust. The guy at reception was helpful booking taxis etc but that’s standard hotel stuff. It’s a shame…
We have recently spent 7 nights at The Catamaran Hotel and are missing it already! It is a wonderful, small, family run hotel where nothing is too much trouble. The hotel has a lovely, small private beach and pool which are perfect to come back to after a day’s sightseeing. Our 1st floor room was clean, spacious the view was amazing. Feona was on hand to help us book our Stingray trip (which was awesome) and Colin took us to Pigeon Point on his boat on more than one occasion which was a great way to see the harbour. I would thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel and can't wait to visit again soon. Antigua was just wonderful.
Charming hotel on the beach with pool and tonnes of charm. The ever helpful and friendly staff keeping the place pristine. My bf is disabled and the owner of this hotel has always gone above and beyond for him. (Carl, thanks to you especially). They even have fitted ramps to the rooms for him. I cannot say how grateful i am to have these people at this hotel. Impressive views and tranquil sounds of the waves lapping the beach from your bed! Relax and watch the yachts come and go, the pelican catching his lunch and the humming birds around the flowers. You cannot beat this place for peace. Air con and tv, lots of seating, sun loungers, beds, chairs, comfy beds in the rooms, super house maid service (Karen and Kimberly). Large car park for your hire car, lots of lighting if you come back at night. Kayaks available to guests with life jackets. I just love it, I think you can tell so if you want a charming stay with some of the best people on the island then this is your sure bet. …
The Catamaran is a boutique hotel in a picturesque beachfront location on the beautiful island of Antigua. Feona and her team (and Whiskey, the resident 3-legged cat) are friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. If you are looking for a large, modern, soulless, impersonal all inclusive resort, with lots of organised activities day and night, then the Catamaran is probably not for you. However, if you prefer a quiet, relaxing, peaceful holiday, in a small, clean hotel with lots of character, charm, original features and history (and right right on its own beach), then the Catamaran is ideal. I was with a group of Solos travellers and we had such a lovely holiday that 5 of us have already booked to return next year. Thank you Feona - I’m looking forward to seeing you again next October.…
Quaint, charming a hidden gem of Antigua. Amazing staff. This is a small family run business which is a refreshing change from the larger hotels. Very private and relaxed. Stayed in one of the captains cabins and loved it.
There are some who perhaps would highlight issues found at hotels and those who highlight benefits. I will try my best at providing a reasonable review. The Catamaran Hotel does need a little TLC. There were minor issues such as no plug in the bathroom sink but it wasn't game stopper. The hotel is situated right on a beach. Not the biggest beach it must be said, but spacious enough for the group I was travelling with (14 of us). There were plenty of sunbeds, 3x 4-poster beach beds, a nice sized swimming pool and canoes which were free use for guests. Housekeeping was carried out every 2 days, water (2 bottles) provided each day and spacious outdoor eating and relaxation areas. WIFI I picked up as I passed the swimming pool although some days I actually got a signal in my room, but again this was free. Meals (half board basis) were varied each day on a help yourself basis, and I don't recall having a bad meal over my 10 day stay. Staff were very nice and friendly and attentive during meals. Colin, who I understand is the owner's son-in-law, was brilliant even taking us across to pigeon point in his own boat (needing 3 crossings to get us all there) at no charge. He also sorted out buoyancy aids, paddles etc. any time canoe use was requested. However, if you're looking for a lively evening the hotel is not for you. If you're looking for a lovely location to relax then it is. It's a good 300/400 yards from the main road down a quiet lane and walking through to your room at night all you can hear is the lapping of tiny waves on the shore, crickets or frogs and not a lot of anything else. There are a few Cockerel's around so you might not get a peaceful lie in though. I suppose the assessment of any hotel review is the question, would I go back again? The answer is a very positive yes. If you wanted to go off site, Colin was always able to arrange a taxi and the No.17 bus runs from St. John's to English Harbour with a stop at the end of the lane. There's a nice café (Sweet T's) up the lane for lunch, if you were still hungry after breakfast. And a small supermarket if you needed, well, anything. I had a great 10 day stay. PS. There are some anomalies with the "hotel Style & Amenities" section below. Proof of Vaccination was required at the airport point of entry. Wake up calls and alarm clocks were care of the Cockerels. There is no smoking in rooms but plenty of areas outside to smoke and the beach was 3 seconds away.…
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The staff were amazing, taking care of everything we needed, including a ramps for my disabled partner. The location was delightful, the beach pristine and 30 seconds and your in the sea. You can use their kayaks and there are plenty of sun loungers or day beds to choose. The pool is beautiful and spotlessly clean. Their car park is large if you have a vehicle. A very enjoyable and memorable stay.
I have just spent a week at Catamaran Hotel and want to thank Colin and the team for making my stay so pleasurable. Glorious room and fabulous surroundings so relaxing. The room has every facility to enable you to be as self sufficient as you desire. Very comfortable bed and spotlessly clean all around. I love the circular sun bed! You really feel you are in the Caribbean and not in a hotel that you could literally be anywhere. I look forward to seeing you all next year.
We stayed 6 nights and loved our time here. It's not a slick or modern hotel and some areas need bringing up to scratch, BUT the staff are incredibly helpful and go out of their way to serve - notably Colin and Kimberley and the cleaning and beach guys. The location is special, right on the water and wonderfully relaxing. Definitely recommended.
This family run hotel is a real gem in that nothing is too much, such is the excellent service. Feona and her two sons (Colin and Javed) were always on hand to either give local boat trips or professional sailing lessons, all of which was free! The hotel also commands an excellent position right on the beach and so swimming was a real pleasure on the beach, which they clean twice a day. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to both couples and families.
