It is located on five islands, a small community close to the capital saint johns, by taxi it takes like 15 minutes.... by bus 30 minutes! it's cheap and i stayed on a very nice room.... the staff was quite sweet and welcoming! if you need to eat frequently you should do some shopping in saint john's before ... cause there are not amenities close by... the room I stayed had a couple size bed, tv air conditioning, a very pretty balcony close to the lobby... well for the price paid I recommend this guest house / hotel... if you need a taxi ask them to call Sigh, a honest Guyanese taxi driver, he drove me to lots of places and the price was fair!

I spent in that place 3 weeks and I'm completely satisfied. I had a clean room with bathroom and a balcony and really nice view. Owner is a nice and friendly person who always trying fulfill your requirements and help you to organise your vacation. Location is very good, close to the one of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua "Deep Bay" (very calm water) with short walking distance and also quite close to the town St. Johns few minutes by bus nr 61.

Stayed 2 nights in Sep 06 before a cruise. Staff at Inn La Galleria was so nice, and I felt very well taken care of. As a female traveling alone, I felt totally comfortable here.

Post-cruise I needed a place again. I wanted to try in St. Johns, so I checked out 2 properties in the city in the same price range: they couldn't compare. I came back to Inn La Galleria and I was glad I did.

This inn offers a lovely view, but the steps are steep - this is not the place for someone with lots of luggage or mobility problems. It's quite a hike to the beach, and the Grand Royal Antiguan aggressively discouraged my trek to "their" beach even though they had few guests of their own. (I had been told all beaches on Antigua are public.) Other guests told me they were welcomed at Galley Bay resort's beach. Inn La Galleria does not have a pool.

The only real minus was the taxi arranged (twice) by the Inn. The driver was not helpful and avoided contact with any luggage (meaning I and the other gal, with a knee brace, had to struggle with our bags to get them to the van, at which point he finally took over). I found my own taxi driver in town - Johnny with the Red Shoes - and arranged for him to take me to the airport on my last morning.

Five Islands is pretty far from town, but Mon-Sat the bus into St John's costs about $1 USD. With what you'll save by staying here, you'll be able to afford a few taxi rides or even a rental car.

Where do I start...the driveway is so steep and has huge pot holes. Then when you get to the front door there is another steep staircase. Where the owner checks you in and immediately wants payment in US $. Of course the room we reserved wasn't available so we had to upgrade to the $70 a night room. Our first room had two full size beds and a tiny air conditioner; we asked if the air conditioner was working because it was barely blowing any air at all. The owner assured us that it needed a few minutes to start cooling the room off. 30 minutes later the room was still hot and we went and got the manager once more and he finally agreed to move us to another room. This room's air conditioner actually worked; but I just couldn't get past the filth! The mosquitoes were out of control as well as the cob webs. The bathroom was disgusting!!! We DO NOT recommend this place to anyone. The beach is about a 7 minute walk away; however you have to walk thru another hotel, which seemed deserted as well. The beach on this side of the island is just okay. Since there is nothing around, you either go to bed when it gets dark and pray you're not eaten alive by the mosquitoes or get ripped off by a taxi and go into St. John's. Save yourself the disappointment and itchiness, please stay somewhere else.

If 'family-owned' and 'family-run' is part of a hotel's description, I have usually had excellent experiences. Inn La Galleria is happily no exception.

The owner Belgrove Gregory, was not only a gracious and warm host, but extremely resourceful and helpful with our many logistical issues and requests.

The hotel has a number of different room configurations: (views- ocean vs. mountain; amenities- in room kitchenette vs. refridgerator; size- spacious vs. cozy) all of which are a good value for the price. The rooms were clean, if a bit spartan. And the bathrooms were spotless, with generic features.

With such a gorgeous public area on two levels overlooking a bay and the ocean, your in-room time should be minimal anyway, other than sleeping! The views are truly awe inspiring, as the hotel is perched on a hill with a 270 degree view of the surroundings.

Consider eating some meals at the hotel. Belgrove's wife, Patricia was an excellent cook, and he also recruits another chef, Ashley from a nearby bar/restaurant, to whip up delicious food as well.

Because the hotel is small, it has no recreational facilities, but it is convenient to other hotels with pools and other watersports.

I have no hesitations about giving this hotel an unqualified strong reference!

We selected this B&B based on the tripadvisor reviews and its ranking as number 1 B&B in Antigua: frankly we strongly disagree with the other reviewers. The building must have been planned by a drunk architect and it is rundown. While the view is partially nice from the terrace (if you omit the orange project-like ex-Ramada Inn right in front of you), there is no view from the rooms. We fell asleep with a geko on the bed board (amusing) and were awaken at 3 am by bed bugs (not amusing). The breakfast consists of unpeeled bananas and mushy white bread. We cannot fathom how it got on top of the list. Mr. Belgrove is very nice though. Go there only if you don't care about esthetics and don't mind sharing your bed with reptiles and insects.

I wholeheartedly agree with the previous posting. I had a confirmed reservation for one night in early February while in transit to Montserrat. I had been in touch with Belgrove and had indicated I would be a very late arrival (approximately 11:00 p.m.) as I was arriving on the last American Airlines flight from San Juan. This property is a 15-20 minute ride ($20 USD) from the airport so I arrived at the hotel at 11:20. There was no one at the desk but I finally located Belgrove (who was asleep) and asked for my room. Belgrove had sold my room earlier that evening and there were no available rooms. Frankly, I wasn't impressed with the property anyway but I was very unhappy with the fact that the room had been sold. I ended up staying at the Caribbean Inn in St. John which was quite nice for an overnight stay (ask for Ivan, the manager).

I understand this is a budget guesthouse, but even so this place was pretty terrible.

First of all, our room was infested with ants. They were crawling all over the bathroom; they were. in the sink, toilet, and shower. We were drinking a soda and literally five minutes after setting it on the table, there were hundreds of ants marching all over the glass. Totally disgusting! We also found several roaches roaming around the room. It was difficult to sleep thinking about all those creepy crawlys in the room.

Here are a few more minor complaints. The sheets were incredibly thin and you could see the mattress right through it. Also be warned that the beds don't come with blankets, so if you get cold at night this could be a problem. Furthermore, the shower takes at least five minutes to warm up before the water gets hot. The location is also bad and not within walking distance of anything.

Another weird thing was that the workers/owner was never there. He was there to let us in our room when we arrived, but we never saw him or anyone else after that. It was kind of like staying in a deserted mansion.

I would strongly suggest staying elsewhere.

I can't reconcile the different reviews as writing about the same hotel. I can only think that it's down to the rooms. We aren't fussy travellers but I found our room truly awful. It was like a prison cell, with a very high ceiling, a window stuck half open, a broken bathroom and generally not all that clean. The beds were horribly uncomfortable and there were endless mosquitos through the night but no net to keep them from eating us. The whole hotel is run down but I imagine that if you get a good room (I didn't look around any others) then you can forgive a lot of this, and gloss over the pretty awful breakfast too. But our room experience was so awful that it tinted everything else.
Also others have spoken about the wonderful service. We were received a young man who was sullen and only interested in talking on his mobile phone, and served breakfast by somebody similarly more interested in talking on her phone. Perhaps the owners only come out for people staying longer than one night.
We booked through booking.com and for the price we paid, we worked out that it would have been not much more expensive to have gone to the gorgeous and friendly Coconut Beach Club nearby, which was all inclusive. In essence, I would say that only stay here if you can stay in one of the good rooms (although I don't know how much better they can be), and look around at some of the more luxurious ones to see if you can afford it - it might not be much more than you think!
Oh - it had good views from the dining area!

This hotel is very neglected and run down. It also suffered from its conversion from a private house to a hotel. For instance, our bathroom was tacked on to the room, and so had to be raised up about a foot to accommodate the piping and drains being run underneath the floor. The driveway up was pitted with huge potholes, the grounds unkempt, the steep stairway to the main entrance dangerous when struggling up them with luggage. The refrigerator in the room was filthy. The curtains were old, mildewed and could not be shut fully. The carpet was dirty and mildewed. The common areas smelled and were dirty. There was nothing such as bottled water, soaps, or any of the other little touches you come to expect in a hotel. The AC unit was off on arrival and off when we returned to the room after a long day at the beach, so you had to wait quite a while to get the room cool. The first night we had no hot water and the faucet handle for the shower was near to falling off. You have to cut through a larger hotel's grounds to get to the beach, and the larger hotel's staff tolerate but do not welcome this.

I have no idea how this hotel got such good ratings unless it was from many years ago or the ratings were inflated by the owner or staff. Several locals expressed their frustration that a hotel in such a prime location was being allowed to deteriorate and create a bad impression of Antigua for visiting tourists.
