I have been coming to Marriott’s Surf Club for 18 years and never had a problem getting a palapa since it was first come, first serve. We would get up early to get a palapa. This year they changed the system and I have been here 5 days and only once did I get one and I had to pay for it. They come on line at 7:00 AM and 1 or 2 minutes later they are all gone. I am a Chairman’s Club member have multiple units in Aruba and Hawaii and I can’t get a beach palapa at the Surf Club. I am so frustrated. I am now of the opinion that the system is somehow rigged. I have heard multiple complaints from other visitors. If this continues, I may opt to sell my unit. Marriott please correct this ridiculous system. Outrageous that you buy a very expensive unit and can’t enjoy the beach.
We finally returned to the Surf Club after about 12 year hiatus. We own 2 weeks there, but have been renting out our units the past years due to other obligations. Once again, I have fallen in love with the Surf Club. We arrived a little before 4 pm and checkin was easy and efficient. Room was ready. The surf club seems to operate the same as it always did. It’s clean, they are constantly working on things and the staff, for the most part, is friendly and accommodating. The villa we stayed in was perfect. I do not understand why, at this particular time share, they dont provide disposable salt and pepper shakers like they do in other marriott time shares. Silly, but also very much needed. I ordered grocery delivery from Groceries to go Aruba. But Im not sure I would do that again. It was delivered on time, just fine. We really only needed breakfast food and liquids. I think I would just use the mini mart next time. If you plan on using the lazy river, note that there are size restrictions on floats. Most people were just using tubs. If you dont pack them, you can buy them for about 12$ each at the marketplace. Captains galley is good for lunch, lots of option, good drinks. Just dont be in a hurry. Everything takes time on the island. The best new addition, by far, is now you use a QR code to sign up for your beach palapa. WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT. That is until you realized that you still have to stand in line to get the ‘ticket’ for your hut by 10 am or they will give it away. WTF is that all about. The management is SO CLOSE to making this a perfect set up, they just failed at the last piece. The line is VERY VERY long. WHY, just WHY??? Anyway, the ocean is great, the lazy river is great and the surf club is still my favorite place in aruba. Yes, its crowded, very crowded, people do ridiculous things to get pool chairs, but overall, cant wait to go back. Oh and this…. When you go to leave aruba, plan on a minimum of 4 hours. NO JOKE. You will be standing and shuffling along that entire time with thousands of your best friends. There has to be a better way. If I dont return to aruba, this would be why. It was that bad.…
My husband and I stayed here last year in June and enjoyed it so much so, that we ended up returning but sadly the experience is far different this time around. Last year, the beach palapas and sun beds were included in your room rental and were reserved on 1st come, 1st serve basis, however now they have implemented an awful online reservation system that really cuts into your enjoyment of a holiday. The reservation process is extremely tedious and frustrating. On top of that, a fee has been implemented for majority of the beach beds depending which row you're reserving with exception of a sparse few which are free, but still need to be reserved online. The online reservation process is divided into 2 intervals at which time you're allowed to reserve your bed. The first is at 7 am and then again at 530 pm and you better be quick about it because once online, a map of the beach layout will appear with numbered palapas and you won't even have time to process the information since the palapas will be disappearing in front of your eyes as other guests hastily snap them up. In addition to this chaotic process, the system would not recognize my Canadian phone # (which apparently another Canadian guest encountered the same issue) therefore I was never able to make the online reservation. I therefore had to reach out to management and have them address it which I'm sure is both inconvenient for them as it is for me. I also noticed how this online reservation system impacted the pool side lounge beds which are free. They are simply unavailable unless you're willing to wake up at 6 am on a daily basis to secure a spot for yourself. Sadly, the decision to implement this new online palapa reservation process impacting poolside seating, definitely has affected our desire to return to this resort.…
….and then not receive what you ordered, with no apologies. Instead, just a comment that what they brought to our table was also very good. Waited 30 minutes to order and another 45 to get our food. I’ve heard of ‘island time’ but this was ridiculous.
Shawn at the front door greets you always with a smile. All staff are proof of Aruba being ONE HAPPY ISLAND, so polite and friendly and helpful. Parents of many of the preteen kids should be ashamed of their kids as they lack manners and respect. But their parents lack politeness also. The new beach chair solution is worse than before. Really a joke. The towel return is an improvement.
Had my jewelry stolen from my room while down at the pool. Didn’t know there was a safe in the room so I hid my rings and bracelet in with my clothing. Cleaning staff serviced the room and must have spent even more time searching for what they wanted to steal. Extremely disappointed with the hotel security and local police response. Do not stay at this resort if you have any other options.
This was my forth time to the surf club Aruba. They are always improving on things, even if you thought that whatever it was, did not need improvment. This year they expanded their beach side flip flop bar. They also added about 8 padded wicker swing chairs.
The residences are nice with decent amenities. The customer service at the front desk is an absolute nightmare and the "reservation" system for beach chairs is awful. It is nearly impossible to reserve a palapa with only 1 per every 10 rooms and there is just no help.
We stayed with a group of people. The rooms are very spacious, as we had a bedroom with a living room and kitchen/dining room. They clean the room 1x for a seven day stay. The rooms are beautful, and there is a full kitchen. The pools are very clean, though you have to get up at 6 AM to get a chair (people get up and leave their tags on the chair at this hour). The lazy river is crowded but relaxing. There are other pools that are not as crowded. The beach area is small, but clean. There are several restaurants in walking distance which are all good but nothing in Aruba is cheap. Dinner costs about $90 per person per night. The only issue with the resort is there were no towels. They ran out by 8AM. We took used towels and washed them so we had towels. The staff was pleasant, and friendly and you can book tours on property. There is parking. They have upgraded the BBQs so they work well. Check you bill-as we were charged for someone else's drinks. Overall, it was a great place to relax and enjoy.…
We just had an enjoyable 2-week stay at Surf Club! I think it is appropriate to commend Eric (one of the bellman) for his exemplary customer shown to us on our day of departure. One of our suitcases had torn and the zippers had separated. Our only way to secure it was to duct tape it. We did not have duct tape nor did the marketplace or front desk. We had just checked out of our room and planned to grab lunch on the property before heading to the airport. As we were arranging to store our luggage with the bellman (Eric), we explained our problem to him and asked where we could find duct tape. Eric told us to go and enjoy lunch and that he would take care of it. After returning from lunch, we were happy to see that he had secured the tear with strong tape so there was no way that the contents could fall out. That is great customer service! Great customer service is often hard to find these days, so I hope that management will acknowledge Eric for willingly finding a solution to our problem and doing it with a smile.…
