Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We checked in as soon as we arrived at the hotel (on time). We requested a room with 2 beds as I travelled with my mom. Very pleased with the room. They have renovated the rooms with new flooring and renovated the bathrooms with huge rain shower and "telephone" shower head too. Double sink with plenty of space to put all my toiletries was a bonus.
Linens were fresh and white. I spray down every hotel room with rubbing alcohol to kill germs and bring out any bed bugs. This room was very clean with no bugs at all!!!☺
Plenty of closet space and drawer space. I was able to completely unpack (8 days) Great balcony with chairs, table and a rack to hang our wet bathing suits (great touch). I always bring LARGE clothes pins so the rack was perfect. 8th floor had a glorious view of the ocean. Although they are building right next door, we did not hear any noise at all.
Bed was comfortable. Pillows (4 per bed) were comfortable. They had a blanket available which we used. I like a cold room with a blanket.
Maid service in the rooms was exceptional. I tipped our lady daily and our room was serviced while we were at breakfast every morning.
We only eat at the buffets. We were here in Feb 2020 and the food was amazing then and amazing once again. I love the selection - there really is something for everyone. We also ate next door at the Rui Palace as they offer outdoor seating for breakfast. Both buffets were above average. Great options for foodies and for the pickiest of eaters. They had fresh sushi on 2 of the nights, with tuna and salmon. The service at the buffets was good. Our wine glasses were always full.
The palapa situation is better now, as you must wake up at 6am and go down to get a palapa. You can't put your bag from the night before. I would have happily paid $20 a day for a guaranteed palapa so I could sleep in. THIS WAS THE ONLY NEGATIVE thing about this resort.
Beach towels always available, thick, fluffy and blue. Paola at the towel hut is charming and always smiling.
The alcohol was excellent. For an all inclusive, the drink selection was excellent. Their cocktails are also really yummy and strong. The rose is white zinfadel, which is not my favourite but so what, I switched to white wine, which was great. If you prefer a higher end alcohol, go to the lobby bar.
SUGGESTIONS FOR ARUBA:
1. Bring large clothes pins. There is always a breeze in Aruba and your towels will not stay put on your beach chair.
2. Bring a water bottle and re-usable, covered drinkware. The bartenders are happy to make your drink in your own cup. This way you don't get any sand in your drink and it stays cold.
I honestly love this resort. My favourite thing is the mimosa and bloody Mary bar at breakfast. And their sparkling wine is cava, so it's dry and delicious.
Greatest value for your money in Aruba resorts.

I made the mistake of reading some of the negative reviews here after booking our vacation at Riu Palace Antilles. I was prepared for disappointment, expecting dated rooms and furnishings, watered-down drinks, mold and mildew, uncomfortable bedding, and general disrepair and dinginess. It was hard to imagine having the relaxing vacation anticipated when we paid for this trip.
In the spirit of honesty, some of the resort criticisms are fair. There is some staining and older paint in the rooms, and a television that isn’t close to high definition (although the spectacular views from suite 1200 more than made up for it, and who hangs out in the room watching TV in Aruba)? There are long waits for the specialty restaurants (we didn’t bother with them). The staff does serve impotent drinks in reusable plastic cups poolside (thank goodness, does anyone really want day drinkers loading up with glassware around a pool)?
The shortcomings of the Riu have zero impact. The overall experience of this resort is nothing short of fantastic, particularly if played well. Don’t go here expecting a gourmet, fine dining food experience. Rather, expect the best buffet you will find in the Caribbean. Quality food, prepared well, with great variety and freshness, with the most courteous staff imaginable. We didn’t have a bad meal all week, and some of the specialty dishes were terrific (Chipotle tenderloin and vodka, cheese pasta were my favorites).
Both the beach and the pool have plenty of seats and plenty of shade. We never attempted to find a place to sit before 9:00 AM and never had a problem getting chairs. Yes, people reserve chairs early, but we never felt the need and never regretted it.
If you want a stiff drink, go to one of the bars inside. Be nice to the bartenders, and they will make your drink anyway you wish. I’d prefer Blanton’s or Knob Creek, but for a week, Jim Beam or Jack Daniel’s is just fine. Absolut is a reasonable choice for the vodka drinker at an all-inclusive, in my opinion.
At the end of the day, your vacation is really about people. If there are more gracious or happy people in the world, I’d be surprised. Arubans are just special. We did not a have anything close to a bad experience with a single person at Riu, in fact, the opposite. I sincerely wish I were better about remembering names, because I think that it is worth calling out exceptional performers. Here goes just a small sample who went over and above to earn our thanks: Carlos (DePalma tours, bus driver), Freddie (main lounge, bartender), Luz (Oceanside bar, bartender), Junior (poolside server, best smile ever). I suspect that your vacation is what you make it. For us, it was easy to have an incredible time at the Riu, which far exceeded our expectations in every way, particularly after reading some of the negative reviews here. Hope you have as great a time as we did!

I booked the RIU Antillas due to numerous recommendations, as well as the all inclusive and adults only aspects. The service at the hotel was excellent. Everyone we interacted with was nothing but engaged and willing to do whatever to make our stay nothing less than perfect. The hotel was clean and aesthetically great. The individuals working on the beach do not get enough credit for their tiring work in the sun to get your chairs wherever you want as quick as possible. They were continuously cleaning up and removing unused chairs so the beach was not unnecessarily crowded. We did not spend much time at the pool, but there were activities all day long. The food and services associated with the food and drinks were amazing. The bartenders at all the bars were willing to make whatever you asked for and did not skimp. Where we were a little disappointed was the rooms. Not necessarily that they were dirty, but they needed some upgrading and improvement. The bathroom door did not exactly shut well, and there was an access panel in the shower ceiling that due to the wind kept blowing open exposing the inner workings of the ceiling. The bed and pillows were not exactly comfortable, and the sliding glass door to the balcony took incredible strength to open. Again, the cleaning crew kept the room exceptionally clean it is just they need to dedicate some funding to upgrading everything.

Upon checking in to our room we were sooo disappointed to what we walked in to. Very outdated , dirty room . Mold everywhere on the walls , nothing was working in the room , the couch was dirty , the bathroom looked like a scene from a horror movie . This was definitely not a 5 star resort . You can see the age of building in the hallways and elevators as well .
Entertainment was okay it was finished by around 10:30 and there wasn’t much to do after except the club which played the same music over and over again .
Overall , if people are paying to come to Aruba to stay at a 5 star hotel you should raise your standards as a Riu property and offer a lot more and give your guests comfortable clean rooms . We met people who had allergy reaction to the mold in the room . That is not acceptable as people’s health is at risk and we are paying a lot of money to be on vacation in Aruba.
I also need to mention that Air conditioning was not working properly and there is no ventilation system and as a result you are getting wet floors which again is a safety hazard.
We will definitely not be returning to this resort until it gets MAJOR renovations.

Worst hotel we’ve stayed at on the island
Cons
Terrible musty hallway carpets (carpet in a tropical climate ? Why? )
The rooms as others have said are dated and in major need of repair and maintenance. I could live with dated but mould on the ceiling/rusty fixtures/dirty door and walls are not acceptable. Holiday Inn rooms were better than these
The specialty restaurants are not good/slow. Staff do their best but it’s obvious that they want to push you to the buffet ( easy to feed the masses) the best meal was at Krystal ( they may have a separate kitchen which would explain why it wasn’t just the buffet dishes served to you)
Drinks are fine. Limited selection which is expected at an AI. Wine is terrible don’t even bother
Grounds are bare compared to other hotels. Not lush and tropical at all.
Buffet for breakfast was the best meal of the day. Lunch ranged from great to awful with the turnover day recycling many dishes
Pros
Beautiful stretch of beach and not as crowded as the areas near the Hyatt
Staff for the most part are very good and try to accommodate requests
The rooms were very clean ( the only redeeming part)
Having visited Aruba many times if someone asked I would suggest not doing an AI. There are lots of choices on the island for meals ranging from $ to $$$. The all inclusive Riu “formula” work on islands where resorts are in isolated but in places like Aruba you are better off eating off resort. Just on the beach walking path alone there are tons of great inexpensive options. The hotel strip area has tons of dining all within walking distance. We ate off the resort several times as we were so sick of the buffet and all meals were delicious and very reasonable

This was our first time in Aruba and although we loved the island we do not recommend the Hotel Riu Palace Antillas.
Cons:
1) The food although plentiful as it is all inclusive, was mediocre at best. Most of the food was overcooked but also most of it didn’t taste good at all. Breakfast was the exception, but lunch and dinner were about a 2 out of 5 stars.
2). This place was expensive. The only way to get your money’s worth is if you eat excessive amounts at each meal and drink alcohol heavily. Since it is all inclusive, heavy drinkers can drink by the pool and at the beach and in your room with a stocked bar. We were not those people so we didn’t drink our money’s worth.
3). This hotel is a very noisy party place. You cannot find a quiet place on the property that doesn’t have that constant base beating loudly. If you want a quiet place to relax you can’t find one.
4). Restaurants: They advertise restaurants but the menus are limited to five or six entrees and we’re the same options for the entire week. You cannot make reservations at these restaurants, instead you must stand in line for an hour to get the first 6:30 seating and even then we didn’t get in until 8:30. Not well managed.
Pros:
1). The beach was beautiful and easily accessible and you could still get WiFi. Still noisy though from the loud party music at the pool. The water is shallow for a distance so it is easy to take a dip.
2). The weather in Aruba is perfect every day with blue sky and sunshine and enough breeze that you rarely get hot.
3). It is near a restaurant strip maybe check out the Hyatt or the Hilton instead to see if they have an option for Non all inclusive. We went to the restaurant at the Hyatt called Ruinas Del Mar and sat outside by a little lighted lagoon. It was fabulous and so great to get out of that indoor buffet room at the RIU.
4). The staff was very attentive and friendly.
Hope this helpful!

This is the adults only resort but next door is another Riu and you can use their facilities as well. I have to say the hotel needs an update. The halls are a bit musty, the rooms are outdated and the pillows smelled really mouldy so I called down for new pillows.
The buffet is really good with lots of variety from
Lobster, jerk chicken, grouper, swordfish. The seafood and beef I felt were delicious.
The restaurants were not great. It says online that you can make reservations but this is not the case. All the restaurants are first come first served so there is a line up of about 70 people at 5pm so you won’t get in to any of them. We managed to get into 2, one at 8:30 and by the time they took our order everyone had eaten all of the food that was at the starters/ apps buffet. The lettuce was brown and I had to ask if they could bring out more food as we hadn’t even tried the app bar. We didn’t end up getting anything. The soup was lukewarm as well.
The room service consists of salad, sandwiches and chips and cheese. There are no burgers, fries, chicken fingers or anything really warm. The nacho cheese sauce is cold in the “to go” cafe. You cannot bring any food from the buffet back to your room. So if you’re not feeling well or want to eat in your room good luck.
The demographic I found was much older. If you are younger in your 30’s or 40’s the older Riu might be better.
Overall, I think it was decent. We went outside to eat at some of the restaurants including Papiamento which was delicious.
I found the beach was beautiful. Soft sand, lots of frontage, ocean swimming is great. I found it really windy there so the sand kicked up in your eyes and face all day. The pool is a great alternative. The smaller pool had about 100 people in it a day so the larger one is better for those who want some space to relax.
The location is great right on palm beach and you can take a 20 min walk to Eagle Beach which is also very nice. The other direction takes you to the Hilton and further down the beach is the Ritz. You can take a taxi into town for about 12- if you want to walk around.

I have no idea how this hotel is still in business. I NEVER write reviews but felt compelled to because of how disgusting this place is. We came here for our honey moon and were so disappointed. I cried and wanted to go back home without getting refunded rather than staying at this place. We switched rooms 4 times because of how disgusting each room was and then ended up at the family riu palace (which wasn’t much better sanitary-wise). There was visible mold on the walls/ceiling/lamps, sheets were dirty, floors were dirty, bath tub flooded every time you took a shower, saw cockroaches in our room, bird poop all over our balcony, rooms and hallways smelled really bad, etc. When we went to the front desk to complain, there were already several couples at the front desk extremely upset as well, asking for refunds. I’ve paid WAY less and stayed at nicer hotels than this one. This hotel is equivalent to a 1 star motel. I know the island in itself is what you come here to vacation for but the conditions of this hotel made me feel uneasy, that’s where I had to sleep at night and leave all my belongings. Having the excuse that their climate is the reasoning for their unsanitary upkeep is pathetic. I’ve had friends and families stay at hotels along this same strip (Marriott, Hilton, holiday inn and playa linda) and all reported there were no signs of mold or unsanitary hotel conditions at these resorts. Seriously do not stay here it is a health hazard. The only positive thing I can say is the staff is amazing and dedicated to making you feel happy and welcomed.

This is our second time at a Riu in Aruba but the first time in the Antillas which is adults only. We took a taxi at the airport and arrived in the Riu Antillas about 4:30 pm on Tuesday February 18, 2020. We, including the taxi driver immediately noticed that no one came out to greet us or help with our suitcases. The driver commented where's the bell person and she took our suitcases and personally bought them in for us into the lobby. Once at the front desk we did get noticed and attended to but the room offered had 2 queen beds. The front desk associate was kind enough to suggest a room change for Thursday with a better view 18th floor and king size bed. True to his word we changed rooms on Thursday. The rooms are very clean, bathrooms need upgrading which consisted of a tub only with poor water pressure. (I'm not accustomed to climbing into a tub to take a shower.) The view was spectacular even though there was building construction adjacent to the hotel. The food was amazing but the reservation process was extremely annoying. In order to get into any of the four restaurants other than the buffet restaurant we had to either wait on line in front the restaurants by 6:30 pm or hope to get a beeper for a later time of 7:30-8 pm. We were lucky to get into all four of their restaurants and ate in the buffet restaurant several times. Food in all the restaurants were extremely good. There was no beach bar with food although this time we found the beach areas much more accessible than the Riu Palace family area from few years ago.

As several of the recent reviews have said, the rooms at the resort are in serious need of remodeling. The main areas of the resort are, for the most part, modern and up to date. But once you step off the elevator into the room hallways, its like you're at a Days Inn: old grey and red, fraying carpet squares, holes and scuffs all over the room walls, low lighting, few outlets (and no USB ports), old rickety toilets that barely flush...the only thing that kept me from running away was the rooms are kept very clean, including linens and towels. The rest of the resort is kept up nicely as well. However, it wouldn't be a place I'd return to, as while drinks were good, the food was super bland, you can't make reservations for any of the specialty restaurants but have to be there before or at opening to either get seated or get your name on the list for a later seating, and you can only check out one pool towel per person. It was okay, I just wasn't impressed.

Just ask at check in. Make sure to ask for a room facing the RIU Palace and that it’s on the upper floors (we ended up staying on the 14th floor). Not sure what you mean by upgrade since all the rooms are the same except the three (maybe two) rooms at the end of each floor that are “ocean front”. Not sure of their availability since there aren’t very many of them. Just be aware that you may be charged the difference for upgrading from “ocean view” to “ocean front”.
Tbh, I’m not sure because I don’t drink sparkling water. They do have bottled water available in room though. It’s not the same, I know, but they definitely had bottled water available.
we had no problems with ours, wife has medium length hair.
I have seen a little rain in October. Been there twice in November with no rain.
