I took part in an organized tour and unfortunately was assigned to another hostal. The tour finished early morning and I was supposed to leave for Camagüey at midnight... Nevertheless I wasn't her host, Dulce let me stay there, leave luggage, shower and do anything as if I were at home... without expecting anything! A real treasure in Cuba! I...

We travelled up to Havana from Ceinfeugos on the morning of our flight home having had the unfortunate experience of gastro during the end of my trip around Cuba. Our tour guide gave us Maria's address as somewhere we could base ourselves for the day until our flight. I arrived very sick and unwell and Maria could not have been...

We followed the Lonely Planet's advice and stayed with Maria Dulce. Very lovely host, very helpful even if she didn't speak English which got me to try my Spanish. We got along nicely. Her house is a typical Cuban colonial house, beautiful. Spacious bedroom, though the beds weren't comfortable. Breakfast was awesome, great coffee and friendly conversation. Maria and her...

My friend and I stayed with Dulce for several nights. It was an absolute pleasure to stay with her! Dulce was incredibly kind and generous to us. She was always ready to answer all kinds of questions we had, whether they were logistical or whether they related to Cuban culture/history. Breakfast was something to look forward to: every morning, our...

Staying with Maria was the best choice my boyfriend and I made on our trip to Havana. We stumbled upon her hostel in the lonely planet guidebook. Maria made sure to give us plenty of recommendations, and gave us so many incredibly useful recommendations. She even taught us how to take local taxis and use the local currency - which...

I felt right at home with our down to earth host, Senora Dulce--"sweet" and welcome in her old style, clean, colourful home in central Havana, an easy 10 minute walk to Old Havana. She sat with us at breakfast over coffee and was always cheery and ready to help. She reserved me a taxi to the airport with a taxi...

The ONLY shortcoming i found for our stay with Dulce Maria was that she has no air-conditioning -- but there is a reason. The 15 foot high ceilings of her ground floor home preclude efficient running, but also reduce the need for it! Dulce is a charming and helpful hostess. Her Casa Particular (government licensed) did not stop with the...

Are you looking for genuine connection with real people? This is the place where a big blue door opens in the delapidated centre of old Havana and a friendly face welcomes you in from off the street and into a lovingly restored old Spanish house. Whereas hotel chains are only keen to get your credit card details, Dulce Maria, the...
