We stayed at El Encanto with our Friendly Planet tour group for a week. The staff, especially Ray and Lazaro went out of their way to make us feel at home here. The room was spacious, clean and well maintained. Everyone there was friendly and very accommodating. The free breakfast was a great way to visit with other travelers before a busy day. Wifi was available in the morning and early evening. We were always greeted with a smile when we returned after our day's activities and Ray or Lazaro would help us with dinnner reservations or taxi arrangements, and even with food delivery when we were too tired to venture out for dinner. The rooftop terrace was a wonderful place to finish our day visiting with our fellow travelers! Thank you to all the folks at El Encanto for treating us like family.…
I stayed at El Encanto with a small group tour. The staff were absolutely wonderful and went out of their way to take good care of us, especially Lazaro. If you need staff who speaks English, this is a good spot for you. The location is not in the main tourist area, but it is just a few blocks from the Malecon, with one or two decent restaurants in walking distance. It's about $10 to take a cab from the Casa to either Ciudad Viejo or to Vedado, where most of the tourist activity is. El Encanto is absolutely charming. It is well-restored and my room was very clean. There was a chemical smell in some rooms that bothered a couple of people in our group. I'm guessing it was pesticide, and after we visited a hotel in Vinales where I got bitten by mosquitos in my room, I was glad to return to El Encanto, where I didn't see a single bug! There's a rooftop terrace, although the view was only of other nearby buildings. There's an elementary school across the street and next door. It was really fun to watch the students come outside for recess and phys ed class, when they played in the street. The included breakfast buffet was adequate, with either scrambled eggs or pre-made omelets, fresh fruit, bread for toast, and a couple of plates of meats & cheeses. As noted below, room 106 is very large and seemed more quiet than other rooms.…
This is my fourth time staying at this lovely bed and breakfast/hotel. You really fell you are staying in old colonial Havana. The rooms have all the amenities for a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. Hot, spacious showers and the rooms are spacious as well. The staff is very accommodating to every need and go out of their way to make sure you are happy. The area is very safe and walking distance to EVERYTHING. I definitely recommend this to families and the adventurous travelers. Will definitely be back soon. Love it!!!
The rooms are very clean and the staff is professional and friendly. Free breakfast everyday. They also stock cold beer, water and sodas in the back room. The only negative, and it was a very big one, is that if you upgreade to a suite, like we did, the suites over look the street which is EXTREMELY NOISY from 7:00 am until about 2:00 am. As such if you are lucky you may get five hours of sleep.
I came here in early December with a group run by Friendly Planet for their "Authentic Havana" tour. This is a renovated colonial-style home in central Havana. The architecture and decor are beautiful. There are two open-air atriums and an open bar area on the roof. There are ten or twelve individual suites, each with its own bathroom. There is WiFi available. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The ceilings and doors are very high with the doors going through an arch with stained glass at the top. There is TV with local Cuban channels. The continental breakfast includes toast, sausage, orange and pineapple juice, bananas, papayas, and guavas. Breakfast is eaten in a room on the first floor. There is a reception room where the front door is with rocking chairs and a piano. If you need to get in, just call them and they will open the door. The hostal is a short walking distance from the beach and the Malecon promenade. The staff is courteous and responsive to your needs. You can convert dollars to pesos for a 10% fee. The 10% fee is mandatory by the Cuban government and is not an hostal policy. Along with a key to the room, you are issued a key to the safe in your room where you can keep your passport and other valuables. You cannot drink the tap water and toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet--it must be put into a waste bin. This is Cuba so this is typical. You should drink bottled water. The rooms are cleaned daily. The room has a fan, an air conditioner, a bed, a sofa, a dresser, a refrigerator, and a couple of nightstands. We were there for four days and the power only went out for half an hour. This is Havana so sometimes the utilities are intermittent. Overall no complaints. Keep up the excellent work.…
Lovely staff, clean, hot water, nice breakfast and 24hr Manager and money changed (cash) and walking distance to main square. Lovely restaurant 5 min walk. Hotel is right in the middle of town and 3 blocks from water front.
Wonderful place to stay with great hosts! Ray and Laz were awesome hosts! The hotel room we had was on the ground floor in the rear of the hotel. Very quiet. The key was kept safe at the front desk when we were out. We felt very safe. The bed was firm mattress, which we like. The room was extremely clean. The bathroom was also extremely clean. There was ALWAYS hot water. Clean towels, bath mat, and fresh soap every day. There was free WiFi twice a days for 2 hours. The ladies who made breakfast did such a good job. Breakfast was a full spread of juice, milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, breads w/ toaster, meats, cereal, coffee, tea, and fruit. Each room is different, our room had a queen size bed and bathroom with a balcony which had a single bed on it. My father in law’s room had a queen size bed with a bathroom on the balcony. There is a rooftop garden area for drinks. The ceilings are very high, so if you have bad knees ask for a ground floor room. Highly recommended to stay here!…
Wanted to let everyone know that this place does not disappoint. This is our 3rd time staying at El Encanto, and we cant get enough. The rooms are great with air conditioning, private bathrooms and small refrigerators. The breakfast included every morning is plenty of food for the American appetite and is fresh with local favorites and wonderful egg omelets. There was always cold beer and water available. Currency exchange is very easy directly there at hotel. And they have private taxi service if requested. The location is perfect for those who like to walk and want to explore the real Havana.
My tour group stayed here. I was upgraded to large suite overlooking the street. The primary school across the way was loud during day but the streets of Havana are always loud. I had a balcony. The staff was great. The room had air conditioning but not the rest of the casa. Breakfast was just average at best. Picture is view from my room. 3 blocks from the water.
We had a great time! Staff friendly and helpful. Easy currency exchange. Every thing in walking distance for us. Ac cold and comfortable bed. Breakfast was great and the coffee looked forward to it every morning. Very good value for the money. Will be booking again we come back :) Thanks for a great time and for being so helpful.
