Just sat in the airport reflecting on my 11 magnificent days spent with Kira Simon and family. That’s exactly how I feel, I have left my family behind. From the minute my taxi dropped me off and Simon welcomed me with a sustaining soup, a sense of calm and expectation started to percolate my weary being. I immersed myself in this lush and spiritually rich environment and was treated at times like royalty. Nurtured, encouraged and as a solo traveller taken care of in the most thoughtful and considered of ways. Kira is an exceptional yoga teacher actually make that human being and Simon her strong quiet supporter ensures all is at it should be. The food is just gorgeous, nutritious and thoughtfully prepared. I loved my time in my luxurious tent. Not a lilo in sight with shower and toilet it was surely way beyond the camping classification. I have detoxed, juiced, be head to toe in mud, mastered the downward dog and found friends - as I said beyond all hope and expectation

Disappointing. Simon was very friendly and helpful with guidance on local attractions and our itinerary. As a whole, Ki Ra is a bohemian oasis free from the crowds and focused on simplicity. However, our “tent” (they’re not numbered or named) was a bit too simple for our liking. It was as if bed sheets were sewn together and simply draped upon a tent frame on a concrete slab. Sure, there was a flush toilet, sink, and shower, but the mount couldn’t even hold the shower head, the water pressure was pathetic, and the warmest we could get the water was Luke warm. The oscillating fan helped to blow the bloodthirsty mosquitoes in our tent around, but they still managed to feast on us during the night. We are very experienced travelers who have stayed in many levels of accommodation from tents to luxury hotels in dozens of countries. However, this was one of the few places where I’ve actually wished we would have left after the first of our two night stay... Although we were told the mosquitoes were especially rampant while we were visiting that still wouldn’t have addressed the lack of attention to detail and quality of the tent accommodations themselves... Overall, if you keep your expectations low and don’t mind mosquitos, this might be a decent option for you... Also, if you fancy a trip from Ki Ra to Bayahibe, do not take the small road that appears to be a shortcut on your Google maps/GPS; about half way down there’s a locked gate under armed guard. You’re better off taking the highway to Bayahibe, rather than driving what we affectionately named “shotgun lane.”

Hi Don, sorry that you had such a poor time of it at Ki-Ra but thanks for your input. Yes, the mosquitos were alarmingly rampant during your 2 nights and we discovered from the next occupant that the hot water to your tent had been blocked by grit, so sorry for that too. Hope that the rest of your trip around the DR was more successful. I suppose a bad review is inevitable at some stage, sorry that it was you! Best wishes Simon

Ki-Ra was one of my favourite places to stay during my 10 weeks in the Dominican Republic: a lovely and soothing place to relax and enjoy your surroundings. I stayed in the Blue Room and loved it, particularly the rooftop terrace, but I would have been equally happy to stay in one of the ocean front tents. I had the benefit of one yoga session with Kyra and felt relaxed and accomplished afterwards, just as you should after a good yoga class. The highlight of my stay was the gorgeous food, the best I have had anywhere in the Caribbean. It was, first and foremost, good for you, but also very fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. And I felt great the whole five days I spent at Ki-Ra. If you are planning to do any yoga in the Dominican Republic, Ki-Ra is the place to visit. You should visit even if you have zero interest in yoga as Ki-Ra is good for your mind, body and soul. Read my full review in my blog Hopping Around the Globe in Style.

We stayed total eight nights at Ki_Ra. We started with 4 nights and then slept one night at Casa Rural at Isla Saona and came back for four nights at Ki-Ra. This after 2 weeks travelling by car trough the Dominican Republic. Ki-Ra is Unique in the Dominican Republic. The English speaking owners and staff created a very special place in nine years. Its peaceful, clean, relaxed, atmospheric, and still in the middle of the nature. The food is superb! You can you get a massage or practice Yoga. Its perfect if you don,t want a speedboat, loud music, Patatas fritas and the usual all inclusive stuff, By the way you can easy reach it by a normal car So i don,t need more to say. Just go you wont regret it. Greetings Ineke and Egbert from the Netherlands.

Arriving at Ki-Ra was like arriving home. So much nature, birds, ocean, privacy, loving care of Kira was wonderful. The food was heaven. Although I haven't done yoga for many years, Kira was soft and gentle. I highly recommend this place to go away from the stressful life that cities and traffic bring to our lives.
