We travelled here over Christmas and new year for 3 weeks. We had a corner suite 60201.
The room was really spacious with a beautiful bath. Great location.
The speciality restaurants were great especially Limbo and Portofino. Yurts was good as well and the buffet awesome. There is so much to choose from, anyone that says that they struggled with food was most likely looking for issues and awkward!
Room service was good. The wings at the sports bar were the best.
We didn’t try the snack bars as we were always too full.
The coffee shop was on par with Costa or Starbucks including the chocolate chip cookies, cakes and mini sandwiches.
In the buffet the “coffee coffee” guy is memorable.
The beach was stunning, watch out for tarantulas in the palm trees.
The pool and beach service was excellent and the servers were always on hand to top up drinks.
There were always sunbeds avi ale on the beach and around the pool- if you struggle, just ask one of the staff members and they will find some and you can choose the location.
The Christmas Eve gala meal was phenomenal. On Christmas Day there was a bbq much around the pool serving a variety of meats including tomahawk steaks cooked to order.
New Year’s Eve was also a great feast with so much variety for everyone.
The little carts ran regularly and were easy to navigate.
Room service was prompt and easy.
We used jungle juice spray and didn’t get bitten once by mosquitoes, sand dead or no seaums.
The room cleaners were efficient and cleaned the room daily, replaced towels, coffee and drinks from the fridge.
The safe was secure and we didn’t have any items go missing.
We were very fortunate with the weather for the entirety of our stay with only some very, very brief showers on a few of the days (less than 5 minutes).
We only left the hotel to go on organised trips as the area surrounding the hotel (road side) didn’t look like the best of places to venture out on foot.
The beach side was safe and looked like you could walk for miles. There were a lot of vendors on the beach, but they didn’t pester you- they just walked around with the goods that they were selling.
We walked around all of the other hotels ( including fantasia - we didn’t think that we were allowed to access - but security waved is in and said Ambar are allowed- I don’t know if this is a new thing as we were told that we weren’t allowed). The other hotels all looked nice. There was a mangrove in the centre of the resort and we always looked out for the white bird with long legs each day!
There are lots of shops inside of the resort at each hotel. There is also a shopping village that is nice to walk around.
The mini golf was fun. There are also tennis courts and a water park along with a wave rider.
The gym was well equipped on Ambar, there are also two others but we didn’t go into those.
The Hindu Nann restaurant was our least favourite, but everyone has different tastes.
We have travelled to Bahias in Mexico and the brand is very consistent between countries.
Overall we wouldn’t hesitate to return back here and would recommend it.
Great holiday.

Room: didn’t have any major problem, it was very clean, the a/c was working super well, no noise. The only thing was the light in the closet that wouldn’t turn off. Be aware they usually clean the room in the morning and at night (in case you want to tip every time or if you want to put the sign to not come). The wifi was super good, really no complaint there

Food: I have to agree with some other comments, the buffet seems to have the best variety of food and potentially the best food (there was seafood/lobster at lunch). But, the restaurants’ ambiance, service is worth it. For the menu, make sure you go on the website of the resort, not the app as it was outdated. It happened once (Casa Bella) didn’t have pizza at all and barely any dessert, so didn’t match the website either. Our favourite restaurant was Yurta (mongol), Porto Fino (Italian at Ámbar) and Limbo (Ambar). The portions are usually pretty big (adding the fact it has many courses), so make sure you at at the buffet a bit earlier to be hungry. For the buffet, make sure you go around first to see what they serve and if you want something from the cooking station, take that first as you could me waiting couple minutes and your food gets cold.

Pool: there was plenty of chairs around the pool. We went around 9 am and always found a space under an umbrella. Although, there is still A LOT of people putting a towel on chairs super early (even if not allowed), I don’t know if it would be the same around February time frame. For the beach, you would need to be earlier than that to have a spot where you can actually see the water. The beach was very clean and pool’s water had some residue (probably due to sunscreen) in some places but overall pretty clean.

General: there were many cats on the resort 🥹 which I think brought life. Some people brought cat treats and it was a brilliant idea. Most the personnel was very professional and nice (other than one instance). The town with shops was ok (super dead when we went). Most of marchandise was very overpriced and not super traditional. I’m going to put this here because I didn’t have much of a reference point, we brought around 200$ US each, but if you don’t buy stuff or doing excursion, it’s too much for tip alone. We spent a bit over 100$ us each in tip (2-5$ per meal depending on service, restaurant usually 5. 1$ cook at the buffet. Room service between 3-5$ depending on state of room and request. Transport around 2-3$. Bartender 1-2$ per order of drinks). I added a map in the photos if you need it :)

Our stay at the Bahia Ambar Swim-Up Suites was excellent. The Ambar section, being adults-only, offered a peaceful, upscale atmosphere that truly enhanced our experience. If you’re planning a visit, I highly recommend choosing a swim-up suite with a south-facing deck to enjoy the sun all day.

Location & Convenience:
Staying in the Ambar section was the best decision we made. The other sections of the resort are much farther from the beach and restaurants, requiring a tram that runs every 20 minutes. In contrast, Ambar offers direct access to both, making everything conveniently walkable.

Accommodations:
The rooms were beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. However, pack insect repellent and Benadryl. Despite not seeing any insects, many guests, including us, experienced clusters of bites on hands and legs—likely from sand fleas or mites. Some guests even dealt with skin infections, so be proactive.

Dining:
The buffet was excellent with a wide variety of fresh, delicious options, and the service throughout was exceptional. For à la carte restaurants, make reservations as soon as you arrive—they book up quickly. While the resort is all-inclusive, some of the offerings fall short of five-star expectations. The mini-bar isn’t fully stocked, orange juice is more like an orange-flavored drink, and the coffee quality leaves much to be desired. Room service is available 24/7 but has a very limited menu.

Resort Atmosphere:
Weekends come alive with live saxophone performances and karaoke, creating a vibrant, fun atmosphere. The resort is beautiful and clean, though be prepared for persistent vendors throughout public areas, offering excursions and spa services. While respectful and courteous, the constant approach can be overwhelming.

Things to Avoid:
Beware of the so-called “60-minute seminar,” which is a high-pressure sales pitch for their VIP membership program. Though they entice you with a $100 gift shop voucher, it’s really a push to get you to commit to a $60,000 package. Skip it if you’re not genuinely interested.

Final Thoughts:
This isn’t a five-star resort in the same league as the Ritz-Carlton, but it’s still an excellent choice with a few minor drawbacks. If I return, I’d only stay in the Ambar section again. Booking directly with Bahia can also save you a significant amount. Despite a few inconveniences, the outstanding service, beautiful setting, and convenience of the Ambar Swim-Up Suites made our trip memorable.

We went to Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar with a couple of friends. For us, it was our second time at this Pension. We came with our family (12 people) in 2011. I had expectations because this trip in 2011 had been heavenly in every way. This time, however, I would say that the Pension is no longer a 5-star but rather a 4-star. The site and rooms are clean. The staff is very attentive with us whether at buffets, à la carte restaurants or bars. However, for cleaning our room, something was missing every day, whether it was toilet paper, washcloths, bath mat, soft drinks in the fridge. We were there 7 days and every day something was missing in our room. My husband managed to get his Pepsi on the last day because he took it off the housekeeping cart in the hallway. As for the food. The morning buffet is very varied and very good. The lunch buffet is the same every day and the variety is limited. I have to say, it was very ordinary. As for the evening buffet, it is varied, it is good but nothing like the one of 2011. For à la carte restaurants, we were disappointed. It wasn't bad, but it was nothing extraordinary. At Portofino (Italian), we were all very disappointed. Lasagna bland, salad dressing was pure balsamic vinegar with nothing else, soup was liquid like water and tasted almost nothing. My spouse and friends were all as disappointed as I was with their meal. We went to the Mediterranean restaurant (I forgot the name), there too the menu had very little choice and everything lacked seasonings. As for the French restaurant Le Limbo, it was good and we were well satisfied with our meal. The restaurant Le Meat where we wanted to go one of the last two nights of our stay was unfortunately closed these two days. We paid US$25/person for a dinner show at Gran Bahia Principe village one night. It was outdoors and there was a typical Dominican buffet. At the buffet there was nothing to indicate what was in the dishes. We made our choices and returned to our table, we ate with the light of our cells to see and especially know what we ate. Unfortunately for us, towards the end of our meal, there was a thunderstorm and we were soaked just like our remaining meals. We left before dinner was over because the whole site was wet, tables, chairs and our clothes. So if you want to go to a 4-star, I recommend it but for a 5-star, this is no longer the case.

Over the years, we have traveled to the Dominican Republic 30 times. This is our fifth time at the Ambar - the first post-Covid and likely our go-to resort this fall. We are 4 senior citizens who aren't terribly technologically literate so navigating the app, checking in, and reserving restaurants didn't come naturally. And I'm afraid we requested hard copy menus in all the restaurants because we weren't about to scan the QR code. Otherwise, our week away was perfect. The sun was out, the lounge chairs were comfortable, the beach was clean, the buffet was varied and plentiful, and we didn't have one bad meal at any of the restaurants. We ate at El Olivo twice because we remembered it to be our favourite when we were here in the past. There wasn't one cranky staffer - and I include the gardeners. Everyone smiled when passing. The husbands golfed at Punta Blanca and the pro at the shop remembered them from 2020. They got 3 rounds in and were impressed with the state-of-the-art carts and the rental clubs. This is the first time they didn't bring their own clubs so we packed only carry-on and didn't have to wait for luggage to be unloaded. I strongly suggest that, is you can afford it, spend the $40.00 US for a taxi to the resort. After a long flight, there's nothing worse than having to wait for an hour for all passengers to get to the bus and then go from resort to resort dropping folk off. My ONLY complaint would be our room locations. I'd specifically requested two ground floor rooms close together since two of us have mobility issues. I realize these rooms are swim up and cost slightly more but I did think that as multiple times repeat guests this might be accommodated. Instead we got one room on the 2nd floor and one room on the 3rd in completely separate buildings. It made for slow-going. But the rooms were large and the housekeeping staff always had the room clean and restocked by the time we headed for our afternoon siestas before dinner. All in all, you won't be disappointed if you book the Ambar.

The Good bad and ugly. 1st we arrived and everything was good ; we were escorted to our room by a male butler. He came into our room walked around went into the refrigerator and took out one of the complimentary liquors and drink it right there. when he left my husband and i searched the room and yes it was very nasty hair was everytime the bed and i. the restroom. Our room got changed to building 65 and the room was very pleasant there
. Myliene and Nilsa were always pleasant and assisted us with whatever we needed. The housekeepers in the 65 building do a wonderful job keeping the rooms spotless. The restaurants we ate was the main buffet and Maria was always our waitress she was always there and remembered everything we liked so she would have it already prepared. The female cook who cook the seafood was the best as well. The sports bar was okay as well. The outside pool buffet we always good. we always sat on Miguel section. He is very wonderful. Meats the staff were all so pleasant and the food was great top notch services. tequila restaurant was awful: it took us 20 min before a waitress came to take our order, he left us and never would return unless we got up or flagged for him. Carlos was very nice and helpful as well. They had a good entertainment show. The bad was that as soon as we walked in everyone selling things were just hounding us. we couldn’t even relax in private it felt very invasive. Anytime we went to the lobby to relax the people wouldn’t let us, same on the beach, you could not relax, A lot of workers there are very rude; the beach is not on the carribean it is on the atlantic so there are a lot of seaweeds and please take hydrocortisone cream bc there were hundreds of people with bites all over their legs. There are a lot of cats on this property and we did see a few roaches there on the property too. Majority of everyone speak spanish which is okay bc you are in a spanish speaking country so please use wi-fi so you can utilize google translate. The food was good. We won’t go back to this resort again.

We visited 5-19th Jan 24 from UK. We had the most incredible time at Luxury Ambar.
On check in we were offered an upgrade to swim up room and options of blocks and location we chose to upgrade and had block 64 which is directly behind the swimming pool. The swim up was shaded all day sun from 3 pm until 5.45pm. In honesty we used the swim up when we came back to the room at 5pm
When the sun had gone from the main pool. It was much cooler than the main pool but nice and refreshing. The downside to the swim up is the ground floor and everyone uses the passage to walk through and can be quite noisy on an evening when people are returning to their rooms. Probably wouldn’t upgrade to swim up if we returned.
The restaurant options were great we ate at a restaurant 12 nights only had two nights at the main Buffet. Our favourite restaurants were limbo, meat and naan. Limbo and meat are on Ambars grounds - naan is in Esmarelda which is in walking distance just next hotel. All restaurants are accessible either walking or by golf style buggy’s which the bell boys take you in. Plenty of options to book no issues at all had Italian and Meat twice. Didn’t enjoy fish market as much as we thought we would which was disappointing. This is also near Ambar but classed as esmarelda. Carlos the manager of guest relations is fantastic he even drove a golf buggy to take us to the Asian restaurant as bell boys weren’t available as it was check in time. The staff on the resort are amazing - by the pool bar drinks were brought to our beds favourites were Bianca and Desire by the beach bar William was our favourite but the whole team there were so attentive. We called it Billy’s bar (William) and had a cocktail or two daily frozen daiquiris were my favourite.
The entertainment team work so hard King Kong was the star of the show but they all worked relentlessly and so happy dancing around the pool in the heat what incredible to watch. We had a foam party, games on huge inflatables along with cocktail making and Spanish lessons to name but a few.
The sunrise was a must on a daily basis around 7.12am. The beach and sea was to die for loved the beach as it had a breeze which was nice sometimes the pool was too hot to sit at times. Plenty of sun beds until 10am, pool towels can be changed daily at the end of the day which was a god send. Would definitely return one day as enjoyed it so much but we tend to visit different places but wouldn’t hesitate if we went back to DR

My wife and I spent 10 days at this resort in mid-January. It was our first time at this resort although we had stayed at the Grand Aquamarine resort twice before. We decided to try the Ambar for its proximity to the beach. Our room was well located, mid-way between the reception area with the buffet and bar and the pool and beach area. Our room was a second floor corner unit and was spacious and well appointed with a large balcony, sitting area with a free-standing soaker tub, king bed, well-stocked fridge and large shower area. Housekeeping was pretty good, although we had to make a couple of requests for facecloths and towels, ran out of shower gel and tissues, had a problem with the room safe and water pressure one day. Each issue was very quickly resolved after speaking to the concierge located in our building.

We ate breakfast at the buffet and the food selection has something for everyone. Tables are plentiful and service is very good. We usually had lunch at the beach/pool buffet restaurant, Las Brisas, which had lots of choice and was quite good.

We split our dinners between the buffet which had an excellent selection and several of the speciality restaurants. We ate at El Olivo and Mashua Nikkei which are located at Grand Aquamarine. Service and food were very good. We ate at Naan which was at Esmeralda. This was a six-course tasting menu which was really good, service was well timed and very pleasant. We also ate at Portofino, M.E.A.T and Limbo which were at Luxury Ambar. M.E.A.T was quite good, Limbo was excellent and although service was fine at all the restaurants, unfortunately, our meal at Portofino was very disappointing.

There was entertainment every evening, either located in the main lobby area, pool or beach. There are also kayaks and catamarans available for guests and we enjoyed sailing almost every day. The staff at the water sports location were great to deal with.

There were a couple of things we did notice from our previous trips to this resort, mainly the cat population has grown considerably since we were there a year ago. We also got rain almost every night or very early morning. Although we had great weather during the day, the rain resulted in lots of mosquitoes and no-see-ems which we had never been troubled by before, so while we came home with a tan, we also had lots of bug bites.

All staff were very pleasant and helpful. The grounds are very well maintained and very pretty. We had a great vacation and would certainly return.

Excellent resort. Beautiful beach but very busy! Wonderful staff and good food. Buffet is good. There are 2 - one at the beach and one on the main lobby as well as a number of restaurants to choose from. Rooms are well appointed with shampoo conditioner body wash a lotion as well as hair dryer and iron. Small fridge and coffee machine. We really enjoyed our stay and felt appreciated and looked after! Shuttles available all over the resorts to resort shops. Lots of vendors on the beach and beach bar service is incredible! The only issue was that beach chairs are snapped up at 5am for beach front and pool area. We managed and beach staff are available to find chairs for you on the beach. Enjoy your trip.

This is our third time at Ambar. Our 8 th time staying at a Bahia Principe. I was so looking forward to coming here even talked 4 other couples onto coming with my husband and myself.

I had emailed the resort before coming to give the names of who was coming with us and even stated it was the one person’s birthday we are celebrating there was nothing for her not even a banner on the door.

Our room is beautiful, one of the nicest we have stayed in. At arrival one of the couple who came on Saturday had a bottle of wine/ champagne waiting for them us other couples had nothing. Which is ok the alcohol is free. Not understanding why through.
Our mini fridge on the first day had 3 mini bottle, the next day 2 then nothing since.
We are here until Tuesday will have to see what happens.
The lady cleaning our room, is excellent.
I do remember when we used to get chocolate bars and chips in the fridge, now it’s peanuts.

The beach bartender William has been fantastic, The other staff I think we are an inconvenience to them we ended up having to get our own place setting at one of the beach restaurants when about 6 staff walked past us. We were even told what table to sit at when we arrived.

At the coffee shop the latte was very good but the person making it was not friendly even a smile would be ok.

We tip well, we tip the person making our omelettes, we tip the people keeping the grounds spotless, we tip the waitstaff usually but when we are not getting good service we will no longer be giving tips.

The Lobby store person today was the rudest. I broke my reading glasses, looked at the readers they were $60.00 dollar’s American, a friend bought an item there and was told if you’re staying at the resort you get 30% off . I asked if we would get a discount she asked for the room number and said $3.00 off. We left and went to the store in the corner of the three other stores, the person there was very nice even gave me a book to see if the readers were good. they were $15.00 American.

The hotel and resort are stunning, I am not a foodie so it is good enough for me.
At the sit down Japanese restaurant the food was very good, but we did not get our dessert we waited 45 minutes for it and left. The issue was we booked a table of 8 all 4 couples giving our room numbers, when we got there it was 4 separate tables of 2. We had to wait for the staff to put together a table of 8.

We are booked into other restaurants hopefully we will have the right place settings and get all of our food.

still at the resort, maybe it will get better, maybe new staff rotating in that will be friendly.

As of this moment would I recommend here again No. makes me sad it was at one time my favourite place.
