I read a lot of reviews prior to going. Some were spot on and some I guess were based on preference or personal experiences. Hopefully this helps, speaking from my experience at the RIU, It was really good and I had a great time. I...More
I recently stayed at this resort for a solo trip. To be frank, I was disappointed as I had been to the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun and had a wonderful time.
First, let us start with the pros:
- ground was maintained immaculately
I went with a group of 19 clients, to the Riu Palace Bavaro in mid-June. We paid for 6 "ocean view" rooms but the ocean was nowhere to be seen. They agreed to move my move us the following day to an ocean view room...More
First let me say this hotel couldn't have been a four star anytime in the last few months. The money we spent, the attitude we received when asked for simple things like clean towels or just please clean the room was unacceptable! No one really...More
We are still currently at this resort and have been let down since day one. We showed up and the first thing we noticed was that our toilet did not flush, so we immediately called maintenance to get this issue fixed, but it took a...More

Yes pay no attention to the complaining winers. I was there before, unbelievably fun a great place. So many people think that the Caribbean is high end New York Ritz, it is not. If you go to the Caribbean and don't see a roach then I have to wonder. If people want to spend there vacation going around taking pictures of a paint chip or a rust spot that is there business, but what a waste of a vacation. The food is excellent, the staff is excellent, the grounds are excellent, the beach and pool are excellent. If you are a group of all adults upgrade to the VIP, if you have kids then just have fun. I have been here and have chosen to return with a large group this January.
Don't let this complainers worry you. People who have gone here and complained would never be happy anywhere. There are always these over entitled types, that think they are going to a $1000.00 night New York hotel. It is... More
Don't let this complainers worry you. People who have gone here and complained would never be happy anywhere. There are always these over entitled types, that think they are going to a $1000.00 night New York hotel. It is the Caribbean, accept it as such and you will love it. Is there roaches in the Caribbean, shocker yes there is. Is there a paint chip if you look hard enough, yes there is. But the place is great, I have been there a few times and I'm returning this year with a large group. Great food, great staff, great beach and pools, awesome grounds. If you spend your whole trip looking for a problem you will find some, but who wants to spend the trip taking pictures of a bug or a paint chip. Only unhappy people hoping to get a little voucher or something. Have no worries, it is very nice.
Yes if staying at RIU Palace Bavaro you can use all other RIU except the Maaco. There are some restrictions like dinner restaurants but for the most part you can use the facilities, have lunch or grab a drink.
