Beach cottages in a unique enclave. Fully compliant with pandemic protocols, yet guests are allowed to make their own choices as to participation. Totally immersed in nature, extensively landscaped, a rustic, family feel in a jungle on a beautiful white-sand beach. Every cottage has a private entrance to the outside fresh air, no shared hallways or common air-conditioned spaces. The cottages while similarly designed are all unique, not a 'cookie-cutter' design. Whistling Bird offers amenities and it is a small family business - an "UN" hotel, more like staying with a Jamaican family than a hotel in Jamaica! An excellent Staff and a full slate of services to offer. 24 hour security and access, free parking and WiFi, massage on premises at the beach, no competition for beach chairs and towels like at the "big-box" hotels. Contact us for food and drink promos and packages. Enjoy a simple breakfast or lobster dinner for example, all made fresh, all cooked to order, chefs counter service is recommended! We offer a Genuine Jamaica lifestyle, vibe and experience, and serve authentic Jamaican food and beverages in our private, open air bar and dining area. Come live as we live, and explore and embrace this beautiful private spot in the middle of 7-mile beach, the music, the people. Irie!

Best place to stay in Negril Jamaica. The staff is very friendly, kind, and helpful. Can't wait to visit again. There's plenty of shade from the trees so it makes a very relaxing atmosphere while on the beach ⛱️. Just got back from staying there last week and every morning there was mangoes from the trees that drop overnight. It was my favorite thing to get up in the morning and have fresh mangoes right by my cabin.

I’ll be certain to have Miss Bavra add the charge for the mangoes on your next bill! 🤣🤣🤣 It was a pleasure having you stay with us, I love mangoes and wish that was a year round thing, unfortunately it is only about a month, and your timing was impeccable! We do have almonds fall on roofs pretty much year-round, that is the clanking in the middle of the night sometimes… The staff tries to make each guest as comfortable as possible, the cottages are rustic and inherently can offer little challenges now and again, like the almonds falling, although with such a beautiful beach and safe and private surroundings, that can add to the charm of genuine Jamaica and staying on the beach in a tropical paradise! I always recommend having one of Miss G’s rum punches, or Miss Riley’s special blended drinks. It helps immediately settle into a chill vibe. We look forward to your return visit! If you enjoy a laid back Jamaican vibe, rustic lodging, nature, friendliness, relaxation, palm trees, beautiful beach, good food… this is the place for you.. As other reviewers have stated, if you need consistent water pressure and top of the line amenities, this is not for you. I had a wonderful time at Whistling Bird last month. My primary regret was that I only booked one week. I’m an older, friendly , solo female traveler who was made to feel so at home, welcome and comfortable by staff and other guests alike. Indeed, long time staff members and owner Calvin have established a resort that is a warm community. I loved so many aspects: several pots of coffee starting around 6 in the morning( thank you, Ryan!😎), plenty of shade and lounge chairs, camaraderie or privacy as you wish, beautiful sea, bar and restaurant area close to the water and as a central meeting place, quiet (except for Thursday and Saturday music/club night… bring earplugs, it’s life in Negril), peaceful grounds, great security, near local as well as tourist restaurants, a reciprocal relationship with the Cliff’s lovely hotel West Ender, with a back and forth shuttle about 3 times a day. I badly needed R&R, so pretty much stayed on the resort grounds all day. I walked the beach early (6:30) before it got too sunny, had my coffee and breakfast, chilled with other folks, read, swam, then back to my chaise in the shade. Had 2 great massages with wonderful Rosie. I can’t say enough about the kind, warm and professional staff: Miss Bavra, Roneka, Mr. Milton, Mr A, Chefs Kevin and Brown, Miss G, Ryan, Aaron, Wayne, Shorty, Shareen, Natalie, Tosh, Genius, Garwood… everyone: housekeeping, grounds keepers, security, restaurant staff, operations managers, airport car service. The week felt seamless. I loved Kevin’s omelets and vegetable curried stew, enjoyed nearby restaurants for dinner, as well as local Sweet Spot. I made new friends. Have already booked for upcoming winter. Quite a little paradise. I put off writing my review because, as others have said, it’s great that WB is kind of a secret, hidden spot. Very hard to leave. My love and best to all.

Awesome you had a great time, thank you for your support and accurate and thoughtful comments! Whistling Bird has always been one of “Negrils best kept secrets”, and as we see more travelers grow weary of the big box hotels that you can’t tell what county you are in because everything looks the same, the number of our guests and repeat guests steadily grow. Whistling Bird offers a genuine Jamaica vibe and experience, and you can book cottages by themselves, or include food, beverages, transportation…the options are your choice! Don’t forget, off season can be fantastic summer getaways, long weekends or longer stays to decompress and chill out. We are here and look forward to your next visit! Reservations@whistlingbird.com any time. One Love

We stayed at Whistling Bird with our kids (15 & 11). It was the most relaxing vacation I've had in a long time. The staff were so polite, we felt like friends, not guests. They were able to get us anything we needed (including aloe for a few sunburns). I was worried the kids might get bored, but on our flight home they said it was one of their favorite vacations. There was no need to preplan more than reserving our room and asking for a driver to pick us up at the airport. Our driver was Genius and he picked us up promptly and got us safely to Negril - I wouldn't want to drive there! Once we got to the resort everything we needed was taken care of. My son's favorite dish was banana pancakes - we think together we had over a dozen orders in the 6 days we were there. The staff were so sweet to them, to us all. Great drinks at the bar. We had a lovely tour of the garden on the property - just about everything grows in Jamaica! We also planned a few "excursions" once we arrived. Milton can arrange any beach adventures - so we went snorkeling one day and then a trip with Genius to Mayfield Falls where he pointed out so many plants and explained ailments they help with. He also helped us try to understand the language better, as often folks had to explain what they were saying to us multiple times. :) Excursions aren't necessary though. The beach is amazing with palm trees for shade, the whitest sand, and warm water. There were floaties available for the kids. Tons of restaurants nearby, we had the freshest lobster. There was live music just up or down the beach almost every night. I can't rave enough about how great this vacation was. Advice: Bring extra cash - we almost ran out. Resorts take credit cards, but the vendors on the beach and drivers take cash and prefer USD. Also earplugs for Thursday and Saturday nights if you're early to bed. We didn't mind the music and the kids slept right through it. The roads are curvy and bumpy, we had extra Dramamine just in case.

Many thanks for sharing your experience and the great comments! I think the Staff are the best you will find at any vacation spot, caring and genuine. As you said, Whistling Bird is set in a tropical ‘jungle’ on the beach, which is consistently rated as one of the Top Ten best beaches in the world. The handful of cottages are rustic and authentic Jamaican cottages …and may not be for everyone, but seasoned travelers have come to appreciate and embrace the genuine Jamaican 🇯🇲 vibe, food, culture and drinks we offer. We look forward to seeing you again for a future visit, you can always reach us through the email reservations@whistlingbird.com. IRIE and much Respect!

I'm reluctant to write a review about Whistling Bird because it's the kind of place you want to keep a secret. We travelled with a good friend who has been telling us about the place for years and our experience surpassed our expectations! From the moment our driver, Genius met us at the airport, we felt welcome. He is a true gem and extremely knowledgeable about all Jamaica has to offer. The spectacularly landscaped grounds are just one of the things that set Whistling Bird apart. Who needs beach umbrellas when you've got coconut palms? The cottages are rustic and ours was a little dark but the beds are comfy and clean and we spent most of our time outside in beauty. Beach nightlife can be lively so bring earplugs. Milton sets up lounges on the beach while you have coffee and eat a fabulous breakfast prepared by Kevin. There's local fruit and the freshest fish daily. Feeling parched? Ronica or Ms. G will concoct a delicious beverage. I can't emphasize enough how extraordinarily kind and helpful everyone on the Whistling Bird team is -- Chef Brown, Ryan, Aaron--and the wonderful Bavra. And all the people I didn't get to meet this time. The abundance of sea life and crystal clear water seals the deal. This is paradise. It was my first visit but it won't be my last.

We went with a group of gals to celebrate a 60th birthday, and I was blown away by the natural beauty and the hospitality of the staff at the Whistling Bird. Chef Kevin and Chef Brown made amazing food every single day, the sunsets lasted for hours, and we saw every kind of sea life. We danced for hours every day and night, and then Rosie gave us AMAZING MASSAGES under her tent right there on the beach. Wayne the groundskeeper helps grow all the tropical beauty, and showed us all the edible and medicinal plants on the property. I have done a lot of traveling, but never in my life have I felt more welcomed and loved than at the Whistling Bird. I can't wait to get back.

Thank you for your awesome comments and for sharing your experience and providing a snapshot of what you loved and what keeps our family coming back. So there are no surprises, sometimes everything is not perfect, there can be weird water pressure and flickering lights, but as an emerging country, this stuff happens. Oh, and wonky internet. Lol. But as I’ve said, if you are at one of the ten top rated beaches in the world and you are upset you don’t have cell service, you might be at the beach for the wrong reason! Travel well, and we look forward to seeing you next vacation! IRIE

If you can't handle varying water pressure, stay at an All-Inclusive. If you can't handle noise, stay in the Blue Mountains. But if you love Jamaica and the Jamaican people, there is no finer place to stay on Negril's Seven Mile Beach than Whistling Bird.

This is one of my favorite new reviews! Many thanks for “telling it like it is” because I always try to be as transparent about what Whistling Bird is, and what it isn’t, and I think it’s accurate to say this is probably one of the most beautiful and relaxing places you’ll ever come across, at the same time it’s rustic and genuine Jamaica. So if you love Jamaica and you love the country and you love the culture …this is perfect for you. It’s not a big box hotel, it’s simply good, relaxing and safe sampling of what Jamaica is. Our fantastic staff, food, drinks, beautiful beach and local vendors, it’s the best! Thanks again and we look forward to your next visit!

Whistling Bird has been an amazing experience. The staff works extremely hard to provide an amazing atmosphere with the best shade you find on the whole 7 mile beach. Some of them working more than 14+ hour days and 1 day off only to be seen with a smile and the utmost professionalism. We had 2 amazing massages with Rosie by the beach. She is fantastic and will give you exactly what you are looking for and WHEN YOU NEED IT for an affordable rate. She did a 10/10(5stars) fantastic job and I highly recommend her services and that of the entire Whitsling Bird establishment to anyone that has the chance to stay! Thanks for an amazing stay!!! Cheers.

It is wonderful that you stayed with us and enjoyed the property and the services offered, including Rosie! Thanks so much for recognizing the Jamaican Staff and their hard work, every thing in Negril has been at idle since Covid struck in March 2020 and this is the first real opportunity to welcome the return of our seasonal guests! The hours are long, but the smiles, the love and the Genuine Jamaican warmth and hospitality never fades. The Staff at Whistling Bird is exceptional and the best in the industry—everyone works so diligently and the island vibe and family feel comes through as a result. Many thanks for your support and we hope to see you again, book directly with us anytime at reservations@whistlingbird.com. IRIE!

We've stayed at other resorts on 7-mile beach, as well as on the cliffs, but Whistling Bird cottages is now 'home' for us while visiting Negril. A wonderful settling with the most vibrant and lush native vegetation found on ANY 7-mile resort property. Truly a great job of keeping lots of native plants/flowering shrubs for a very intimate feel and tropical paradise right on one of the finest beaches in the world. Whistling Bird has all the ingredients needed for a well-run resort that provides amazing vacations and experiences for each guest. Tip of the hat to Calvin, the owner, who has assembled, and most importantly retains, an excellent, dedicated staff that provides superb service. My friend Ryan and Chin and the rest of security staff did great. Ryan is great human with a permeating smile. Mr. Kevin commanded a great kitchen and went above and beyond with every meal we ordered. He truly keeps the 'back of the house' running and also fills in wherever needed. Ms. Reneeka is a very professional server that provides a ray of sunshine at all times. Ms. Bavra keeps it all running smooth and is there to help with anything needed. The housekeeping staff was stellar!! And the groundskeeping crew help maintain the most natural, relaxing and enjoyable resort grounds we have found anywhere in Negril. So glad we finally found 'our' spot and look forward to many, many more amazing days and memorable nights staying at the Bird. Cheers!!

This place is amazing if you want a small resort with fantastic staff, beautiful sunset views with relaxing warm water and white sand. It was PERFECT for our 23rd anniversary. The staff helped my husband plan a special evening for us with a sunset dinner on the beach at the resort (which is just where we wanted to spend it) . The snorkeling isn't fantastic right off the beach but you may still see sting rays and other small fish, but you can go up the beach a ways to find a man made reef and it has more fish to explore. The food at the resort was great if you do the all inclusive option. You can walk along the beach to find restaurants, bars, water activities (parasailing, snorkeling tours, sunset dinner cruises, etc) and shopping (including ATMs). If you want land tours (waterfall, Bob Marley Museum, etc) that is available as well. I would suggest speaking with the staff at the resort who are very helpful with transportation/tours needs. They truly make you feel like family. The cottages are a bit rustic, but comfortable and provided everything we needed. We weren't looking for the "huge" resort vibe that you can get down the road. We will definitely be returning to this little piece of paradise.

It is wonderful to hear that you had a great time and spent such an important date with us! Jim Boydston and his wife Julie built Whistling Bird 40+ years ago creating a unique and natural, beautiful collection of cottages on the beach, Genuine Jamaica as he always said. It is a little rustic by design, and never intended to be like the ‘big box ‘ hotels. Thank you for recognizing and appreciating that! We will always try and make you as comfortable as we can, it can be a little challenging with the fluctuations in water pressure and electric interruption sometimes, but that is the price to pay for living on the beach in the most beautiful island in the Caribbean!! Always let us know anything we can do to assist, including future visits through reservations@whistlingbird.com . Thank you again and we look forward to your next visit!
