My boyfriend and I were on a tight budget, so we decided to do the "cozy camping" route and stayed in the tabernacle. It was only the 2 of us, but we really wanted a room with good air circulation since we would not have AC. The room was large and basic. There's not a lock on the hut, its...

My Great Hut Resort was truly a unique, get-away-from-it all experience. It was Perfect in the sense of its privacy, seclusion and uncrowded, private beach access. It was Paradise in the sense of witnessing live the breathtaking cliffs, the crystal clear blue waters, nestled away in a mesmerizing tropical forest haven. The amazing Wood Carvings, African Artifacts, stunning Sculpture, the...

To attempt to capture the wonder and complexity of Great Huts in a single frame, feels silly. It’s just too elaborate, too unique, too incredibly intricate. It’s an eco-resort, indeed, but perhaps a more fitting description might be that it’s an African-Jamaican cultural eco-museum (of sorts) with collections of afrocentric art, crafts, sculpture and literature scattered about five acres....and you...

If you are the culture seeker and just wanna take your living standards and surroundings down several notches, if africa and living in the wild is your adventure then this is the place. It is after all a resort so do expect the exceptional customer service treatment, pleasantries, electricity, running water and warm greet from the locals.

We stayed at the African House on the weekend of April 21,2017. African inspired huts were very comfortable. We rented the entire African House so we can show films that I recently produced. The guests enjoyed the place and the film.Great Huts has a lot of paintings that are inspired by African diverse cultures. Ghanaian paining, the Madiinka House and...

We spent 10 days at Great Huts. I guarantee you that you will not find any accommodation/resort as unique and charming. The style, and ambience combines Afro-Jamaican history, a relaxing/easy-going vibe, and a unique and often quirky architectural and interior design with strong emphasis on Jamaica's historical link to west African history. Our room overlooked directly the stunning cove of...

Great Huts is a dream, a dream of a real visionary. Being there transports you into another world. You are surrounded by "indigenous", earthy and amazingly beautiful art which is complimenting the stunning nature and location. I found Great Huts after staying one night in a guest house in Boston Bay and walked in to ask about staying their for four nights. I had been travelling round Jamaica on my own and sometimes guest houses can be a bit lonely. From the minute I stepped into Great Huts I was greeted with such warm and friendly...

This is my second foray to the city on the edge known as Great Huts, and my first visit since the opening of the eagerly anticipated Africana House. There have been a few changes implemented since my last visit, minor additions in the decor and some new installations of a cosmetic or functional nature, but the addition of the Africana...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great Huts: Paradise on the Edge is an oceanfront resort on the lush northeastern tip of Jamaica. Modeled after a traditional West African coastal village, at once both rough-hewn and modern, it is a convergence of nature, heritage, spirituality and technology. Off the beaten path, but not far from the bustle and night life of Boston Bay and Port Antonio, Great Huts' jungle-cliff-beach habitat is a distinctive ecological and cultural experience. The Africana House, a Rastafari Mansion by the Sea with high ceilings and Ethiope-inspired decor throughout, has a spacious communal room, four regal bedrooms, a 5,000-square-foot rooftop deck and a lotus-shaped deepwater pool, resting atop five acres braided with intriguing caves and hiking trails. Great Huts is perfect for the adventurer in all of us, an intimate yet communal getaway or a secluded corporate retreat. ... more   less
