My daughter and I wanted to have an "adventure" and I found Great Huts. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff was warm and wonderful. We enjoyed the Saturday evening cultural event. It was hard to leave...I actually extended a day because we loved it so much. If you get the chance, book Fig Tree...waking up to...

Located just outside of port Antonio, it is very close to Frenchman's cove, Winifred beach, the blue lagoon and reach falls. The huts are great, bamboo made and some of them have sand as a floor. Actually the door is not lockable but there is a safe in every room. You are immersed in a luxurious semi jungle, where you...

This was my second visit to Great Huts and to describe it as memorable would be understatement of the year. As a resident of Jamaica and one who works in the hospitality industry, I was keen to take some visiting friends to Portland and experience this place for its sheer ‘differentness’. During the first trip, it’s fair to say that,...

I'm a local and my cousin and I took a spontaneous trip to Portland and were looking for somewhere to stay for the night. We did check out a couple of guest houses on the way, they were very nice...basic but nice. Finally we stumbled on Great Huts, which is kind of tucked away and off the beaten path. Upon...

After spending a couple days at a nice (but typical) hostel in Kingston, my friends and I were looking for something a little more upscale but also had island charm. Boy did we hit the jackpot with the Great Huts!! The resort is comprised of several unique island huts that look like they were taken straight out of Robinson Crusoe...

My fiance and I stayed at Great Huts at the end of October for a quick 3 night getaway together from our home in the Cayman Islands. Kingston is a quick and easy flight over for us, however you should know that Great Huts is about a 2.5-3 hour drive from the Kingston Airport. We eventually decided to arrange transportation...

Everything about the hotel was amazing and I wish that I could have stayed longer. The design of the hotel with a lot of wood and stone was a first for me as well as the showers in the open. The little pool on the edge of 30 feet/10 meter cliffs has an incredible view of the ocean. I did...

Located on a cliff overlooking boston bay, this retreat took my breath away. Upon arrival I noticed how natural everything was, no stark white walls, this place made you feel like you were in a secluded rainforest with the works! The food was amazingly delicious, the chefs can cook! And they cater to your needs, with a wide variety of...

I've had the pleasure of staying at Great Huts 3 times. Most recently it was to present a couple of films at their "Cinema Paradise" film festival over the summer. The property is naturally beautiful and dramatic; rustic huts intertwined with trees and little footpaths, all perched atop a cliff overlooking Boston Bay. It's a great place to go for...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Great Huts: Paradise on the Edge is an oceanfront resort on the lush northeastern tip of Jamaica. Modeled after a traditional African village, at once both rough-hewn and modern, it is a convergence of nature, heritage, spirituality and technology. Off the beaten path, but not far from the bustle and night life of Boston Bay and Port Antonio, Great Huts' jungle-cliff-beach habitat is a distinctive ecological and cultural experience. The African hut and Amerindian tree-house dwellings studded throughout the meandering, five-acre compound are comfortably furnished and decorated with uncommon African and Jamaican artifacts. ... more   less
