My husband and I had an amazing early dinner at Tacos & Tequila. Gabirel was our server and he did not disappoint. The food, service and atmosphere was incredible. We highly recommend visiting with a small group or family.

Hotel's Favourite
High-rise hotels and condos line many famous beaches, competing in a search for the finest views of the sea. Not all views can be equally as good. Buildings have sides. All sides can’t face the right direction. And not all floors can be high. But many travelers want a view. Some are willing to pay for it. Hoteliers know that. A few travelers don’t want just any view. The want the best view. What is “the best view?” It’s subjective, of course, but in San Juan, a quest for best view begins by realizing you won’t be staying in the old city. As intriguing as that maze of narrow streets, centuries-old buildings and massive forts may be, it doesn’t offer many possibilities for great sea views. So we move down the coast to relatively upscale Condado. There you’ll find the high-rise hotels most apt to compete for the coveted best views. The informal guides to San Juan seem to have settled on these criteria: higher is better. Full view of the sea is better. And… if possible, full view of both the sea and lagoon is best. That room is going to be hard to find. Rooms facing the sea can’t face the lagoon—unless they are on a corner. Rooms in the hotels moving toward the Isla Verde area can’t face the lagoon—because it’s not there. In fact, probably only a couple hotels really can offer the nec plus ultra. One of them is Condado Vanderbilt. Question: should you book a room there, and if so, which? The hotel is possibly most famous beachfront property for luxury, as it conserves the opulent encrustations of what a century ago was a tycoon's beach house. That legacy is still part of the hotel. Well, sort of, though chances are you won’t be actually staying in the original mansion. You’ll be staying in an added modern tower. But for the view that’s where you want to be anyway. The rooms on the corners have the best views, and arguably the best of those are toward the top. We stayed in Room 1210, the top floor. It would be hard to find a better view in Puerto Rico, and with two balconies you can sit out and watch either the beach walkers on the sea or the kayakers on the lagoon. Condado Vanderbilt features its own beach chairs, multiple restaurants, pools and poolside drinks. At a price, the price being $32 for two Mojitos, plus tip. Alternatively, a walk down Ashford Avenue past the hotel can bring you to a variety of perfectly respectable Puerto Rican restaurants. But no pool. Any downside to this five-star hotel? In service and efficiency, no. It has everything. Solicitous staff make you wonder if maybe you were mistaken for some movie star? You’ll feel like a Vanderbilt for a day, maybe. But fancy comes at a price. Our room cost $591.41 a night on a weekday, taxes included. But the view!

The room was lovely (albeit a bit worn on the balcony paint). Bed was surprisingly comfortable (for me). CAREFULLY EXAMINE BILL WHEN CHECKING OUT. We had a $500+ dinner charge on our bill that was erroneous -- we never even went to that restaurant! (it was refunded). Someone literally charged their dinner to our room with an illegible signature. We were able to prove it was fraud because we were actually in another restaurant in the hotel during that same time! We had another false charge on our account for a valet (we didn't have a car). At this price point, I do not find this acceptable. Saturday nights are LOUD and the whole street outside is heavily trafficked -- People screaming and cars honking all night. The room temp in bedroom area was a little uneven at night but that is a personal preference. My only complaint about room is that I could not cast my apps to the TV. We were tired and wanted to rest -- and ended up watching on the phone. Boo. FYI, our snorkeling to Culebra was a little disappointing because weather prevented us from travel to the other side of the island and we stayed on Flamenco beach. The reef there was pretty destroyed from Hurricane Maria and tourists. There was not as many fish as I would've hoped. The ocean behind this hotel is not safe for swimming, but gorgeous anyway.

Amazing staff. Very happy! They took care of my last minute accomodations swiftly. I LOVE their pool over the ocean. The business center was great and the drinks were pretty good compared to other places I have been.

Great place with the friendliest staff. But idk if it’s a region difference but I believe the bed we had was NOT a true king. There’s just no way…. Felt like a queen if anything. Also the bed and pillows are not very comfy!

I don’t know if it’s because I was a young female traveling alone but I don’t like the way I was treated here. Staff constantly ignored me, serving other guests before me. When I would ask for a towel they would make me give my name and room number and then go inside to actually look it up and check. Once they verified it was when they all of a sudden came back and wanted to help me. I didn’t hear them ask not one other guest for their information and refuse a towel until they went inside to check. My other issue was that there are signs saying you can not reserve beach chairs with personal items, yet they were letting everyone do that. All the chairs had small bottles of hand lotion on them. When I tried to use the chair a staff member told me to move because it was saved for someone else. When I asked him what the policy was for reserving chairs he kept telling me they don’t allow seat saving, when I kept asking him why I had to leave he threw up his hands and walked away. I complained to a manager and asked her what the policy is for saving seating with small items and leaving for the day and she told me she “knows its confusing and they haven’t quiet figured it out” This place is so not worth the price, the area doesn’t feel very safe (I went to a clothing store across the street and had to wait outside to be buzzed in). Older male guests were rude to me, making comments about how I look like I should be serving them drinks and I don’t look like I’m a guest here. Drinks were watered down, food was bad. This place felt like such a waste of money.

My wife was in PR for work. We stayed at 3 different hotels while here. This was on the high end of the journey as far as pricing. Obviously it’s expensive. The problem is it’s not a good value. While the room was nice and we had a good view, the bedrooom was small and no room for our luggage, not even in the closet. We had a separate bedroom from the living room area so our daughter could have the hideaway bed. The coffee maker didn’t work well. There was no real space for toiletries in the bathroom. Small shelves above the sink. The pillows were pretty flat and the AC would not stay on fan mode. It would kick on and off during the night, even after drying to adjust the auto setting. The pool area was nice and the loungers were comfortable. The drinks were a little over the top. I realize it was an expensive room but $20 rum punches is a little excessive. And shame on me for not checking first but we went to the bar after dinner and had a house wine and a simple Don Julio and club soda. It was $72! Then to top it off, their Tacos and Tequila restaurant looked good and the pricing there was reasonable so we were planning on it for Friday dinner. And it was closed for a private event! Really? The entire place closed? No notice that day or anything on the website. So no, I’d spend a lot less for a better stay in the future. I won’t be back. My wife toured plenty of other places in PR that have better value. Truly disappointed for the price.
