My two adult daughters and I were lucky to spend three nights over Memorial Day weekend in this little slice of heaven. This was my second trip (having first been in February 2019 in a second-floor East beach room). My family knows about my rule of never going to the same place twice-the world is simply too big, and there are too many new places to explore. Very few places over my 58 years have merited returning for this reason – and not because they weren’t wonderful. This unique paradise is similar to another property developed byRockefeller that I grew up visiting with my parents: the Mauna Kea on the big island of Hawaii. The vibe is tropical, vast space, buildings meshing into and not competing with the natural environment. What makes it so luxurious, to us at least, is its intimacy and space to spread out – there are less than 100 rooms, and the public areas never seemed crowded. For us, Dorado Beach is pricey-likely the most we have spent on a nightly rate basis of anywhere we have traveled. However, in both my experiences to-date, it has been absolute perfection. We arrived @4:30 pm on a Friday. The very warm and friendly front desk attendant said she had good news and bad news. The good was that we had been upgraded from an East Beach room to a first-floor West beach room with a plunge pool (#112). The bad news was that it wasn’t ready – but we were escorted to the bar at Positivo where we settled into the loveliness with three tropical beverages, courtesy of the front desk. Our wait was no longer than it took us to consume said beverages, and we were guided to our room after a brief little tour of the primary resort areas. The room-as others have noted-is gigantic and designed in the most serene and beautiful aesthetic. One could live in the bathroom – it is beyond. And, the view to the ocean is trance-inducing. Overall, a feast for the senses – the flowery smells, the sounds of the plunge pool and waves crashing, the gorgeous changes of the light throughout the day… We only ate on premises. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner of sushi and seafood at Positivo the first evening, truffle pizza-snapper-and pasta at Encanto the second evening, a delightful birthday dinner at Coa our final evening, and drinks and lunches at Positivo along the way. Our favorites were at the latter and included the bahn mi sandwich (best of the trip) and the prawn and avocado salad. Service at each of these restaurants was spot on and friendly. Staffing seemed very strong (and well trained) – impressive after the Covid induced torching of the hospitality sector. The epic spa – everything (positive) you read is to be believed. In 2019, I found it to be the most transformative and ethereal spa I’d ever visited. That is still the case in 2023 (and this is after visiting the unique and gorgeous spas of Monastero Santa Rosa and Reschio in Italy). From the surroundings (the biblical ficus tree, the apothecary herb room, the jungle like purification garden) to the actual services (the three of us enjoyed the new la pina polish and massage (with pina coladas at the end!)) it is simply breathtaking. I cannot imagine another spa being better, holistically speaking. And the icing on the proverbial cake – the uber responsive embajadors (butlers), the cruiser bicycles that make exploring the immense property so fun, the turndown service with different fancy chocolates each evening, the popsicles at check-in and any other time you desire, the mini magnum ice cream bars that appear on the beach and poolside, the nightly rum tasting (passion fruit Tres Clavos was a happy surprise), and the colorful hats waiting in your room (a different color each time you stay – and yes, I want to return for the pretty pink one 😊).

The way that this property positions itself in the market, I had full expectations that it would have a stunning hard product, flawless service and a multitude of special touches. It largely delivered on the hard product, was mediocre on special touches but oh my goodness the service was systemically poor. I barely stayed 24 hours on the resort so I'm incredulous at how many deficiencies occurred during such a short space of time. I will not detail them all but categorize them into major buckets: Poor communication between each other resulting in mix ups for the guest and unreliability Poor attention to detail mixing up guests Front desk staff being the least warm people on site who seem an unfortunate fit for customer facing roles. More capable teams are expected at $800 a night resorts. To have this level of service at a $2,000 + hotel is really unexpected. I was questioning whether I might be the problem but I stayed two nights at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve and two nights at the St Regis Bahia Beach before this stay and did not have communication/service difficulties with the staff there. Despite this, there were pockets of good service. I realized I was not alone in my room when I woke up due to strange sounds coming from the desk area and was nervous. The operator was quick to arrange for a gentleman to come to my room and found the crab that had been scuttling around. This was taken care of promptly and efficiently which I really appreciated. It was totally unexpected because I had all doors closed and was not on the ground floor. The grounds and scenery are beautiful but not more so than other scenic and well designed properties I've stayed at to justify the price point though the spa would be amongst the most beautiful and novel spa environs I have visited. I'm glad I went to the spa for what it was but it was a stressful check in with the treatment I had thought was confirmed having been changed in one of the many service/communication kerfuffles. The lady at the check in station was very calm and helpful about seeing what she could do to reverse the situation to what I had originally agreed to. My massage was excellent and I enjoyed the experience. Check in was not available until after the official check in time. Compare this to the Mandarin Oriental who will treat you to refreshments if you arrive prior to the official check in time and the room isn't yet ready. I had no need for any of the items provided by way of the mandatory resort fee but went down to the library for a hot drink and couple of the mini muffins to try to make use of one element. Ambassador Bonvoy benefits: No possibility of room upgrade at the property, but appreciated the $150 resort credit. I didn't try requesting a late check out (though one of the mistaken guest problems was that I was notified that my late check out was not accepted so I'm guessing that had I actually asked for one, it would not have been honored). There was also a hat souvenir in my room which I assume was an elite welcome amenity. The entry level room with ocean view is very spacious and had a decent view with huge soaking tub, outdoor shower. Minibar appeared fully stocked so I felt confident I wouldn't be charged for minibar consumption that was incurred by the previous guest. Went to make myself a cup of tea with the tea set but there were no teabags at all - not a life and death situation but you don't get this kind of imperfection at the Four Seasons which conducts a quality check before allowing guests access to their rooms - if you can't offer guests the room at check in time anyway, at least have it properly ready when you do let them in. Upon check out there were unwarranted minibar charges. I disclosed what I did have from the minibar (one item) and all three items I had been charged for were not what I consumed. It seems like I was mixed up for another guest again so be careful to check your bill upon departure. If this had been a $500 a night property I probably would have given it 4 stars because the service was still pretty crazy bad, but have to give it less as the value proposition was a bit of an Emperor's Got No Clothes situation. Essentially this property tries to charge double the price of a Mandarin Oriental or Four Seasons but with half of the service. Hard pass.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Ritz (PR) in April. To say it exceeded my expectations is an understatement. Prior to arrival the concierge team was amazing and patient assisting with booking reservations and excursions. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by staff and offered refreshments and delicious fresh fruit popsicles. Our room with a view of the ocean was extraordinary (spacious, comfortable, with a wonderful outdoor shower option). The on site restaurants (COA and Positivo) were fabulous (Jordan, our waiter was exceptional). The staff (especially pool staff) were fantastic (we enjoyed sipping coconuts by the beach and pool). The attention to detail and excellent professionalism of the staff is on a whole other level, even for the Ritz. A highlight of the trip were Maria and Angel from concierge who helped with excursions and answering sooooo many of my questions. We highly recommend the Food Tour and Rainforest excursions (be sure to ask for Victor, an absolute treasure). The spa is not to be missed (ask for Leslie or Javier). The spa itself was something out of a movie, you felt as though you were in paradise! Finally, the Embajador (Ambassador) service staff were outstanding (Amaryllis and company). They were always so kind and proactive with anything we could possibly need. I have stayed at wonderful hotels all over the world but nothing compares to the Ritz (Dorado) in PR. It was worth every penny! A true magical paradise. This was a family trip with my husband and son (age 9) and we will return soon.

If you are looking for a luxury beach vacation with fantastic property, great rooms and restaurants and best of all a staff that is friendly, attentive and goes out of their way to take care of their guests than the Dorado Ritz is for you. The beach is uncrowned and gorgeous. A big shoutout to Charlene in the nail salon, Arelis at Coa and Chelley at the beach and pool all stood out with exceptional service. There were many more. We usually stay at different resorts each year but we like this hotel so much we’ve booked another week in Feb 24. Our only complaint was we had more rain than we wanted. The rooms are so fantastic and the outdoor showers each room has are amazing. We stayed in room 824 during the week of April 8th but think all the rooms are nearly identical and have gorgeous ocean views.

Let me start by saying... everyone on their team is warm, friendly, and helpful. Starting with Willis from the bell staff who gave us a great tour one afternoon. Followed by our "Embajador" Juan who was so present and helpful along with all other ambassadors. Our second-floor room was super comfortable with an outdoor shower and beachfront views. The restaurants at the hotel were both excellent with great food and great service. Our visits to the spa were otherworldly. The entire grounds of the resort and nearby condos had a wide variety of plants and trees, and birds. They gave us bikes which we put to good use getting around to the trails and golf courses on-property. Both golf courses were tough but fair and our caddie, Gerry, was great. This is certainly a high-end resort and well worth it. The team helps you feel relaxed and well cared for. We'll be back.

We stayed at the Dorado Beach RC over spring break with our teen aged daughters. Every thing about this property is lovely, elegant and relaxing. The lobby is open air, surrounded by beautiful ponds. The grounds are amazing. The pool area is great. The beach is beautiful. And it is all part of a large community with miles of walking trails and multiple golf courses and restaurants. I ran a four mile loop many days and then went to the fitness center to lift. We did not have a bad meal at any of the restaurants and we tried all four(?). Breakfast was amazing and if you didn't want to do that there is complimentary coffee in the library with bite sized muffins (really not a breakfast) but a piece of fruit from your room and you're gtg. The butler service was extremely helpful, Juan our butler was a pleasure to see, everyone was respectful and the service was out of this world. Comp Rum in your room, and complimentary rum tasting's every night in the library. We stayed in an east side room and think that we prefer it to the west. They say the west is on the beach, but the beach is so large that you're not right near the water, while from our room the water was ten yards away. We were lulled to sleep each night by crashing waves. Just awesome. The only issue, and it's really minor, is that one of our daughters is vegan and one restaurant, Encana I think, didn't really have vegan options...but they tried. Also families with small children started to arrive on Friday as the water park is only open on the weekend. So poolside was slightly less relaxing that day. Oh and the "hold a lawn chair with a book" at 8am is a thing so be ready for that battle though i think you can reserve them ahead of time more formally. Anyway, is it expensive, well yes, but that's why it's an RC and they delivered on every aspect of a luxury stay. Can't wait to return.

This property is amazing. It’s gorgeous, and the rooms are up to date. We love that the beach is swimmable, with a rock wall to break the waves. The pools are large and gorgeous. I LOVED the cold plunge addition in the tranquility pool. I am accustomed to cold plunges being reserved for spas, so it was a nice treat to have access to one everyday, right on property. The food on property is always AMAZING. We tend to leave resorts to try local restaurants, but genuinely the food at Dorado is so delicious and unique, its worth just eating on property! 10 out of 10 for food and beverage, really every restaurant is fantastic. Massive thank you to the chefs-I don’t know how a property can have multiple restaurants, with such diverse menus, and every single item is delicious and flavorful- but Dorado does it! Our server Wil at Coa was AMAZING! He was attentive, friendly, and gave honest recommendations. He went above and beyond, he really attributed to a dinner “experience.” We were very fortunate to have him as a server, thank you Wil for making our last dinner on property so memorable and special. Rosi was also a wonderful assistant at Coa. We saw her twice during our stay and she was always so friendly and greeted us with a warm smile. She was very attentive to make sure our glasses were never empty- thank you Wil and Rosi for the outstanding service. Bryan our poolside/beachside server was also amazing! We loved seeing him daily and he always provided prompt impeccable service. His recommendations for the Báhn mì was incredible. Literally the best báhn mì Ive ever had. You should definitely order that if you’re poolside. Thank you Bryan for always being attentive, bringing us nice cold drinks, making sure we have fresh ice, and giving amazing food recommendations. Definitely rent a bike (its complimentary) for your stay. There are multiple bike routes around property which bring you beachside, and into a jungle. It’s a wonderful experience to enjoy everyday- and get some exercise in! You also cant miss the spa while you’re here- its definitely on my top 3 spa list. It’s gorgeous and the treatments are spectacular. Give yourself enough time to enjoy the amenities before your treatment. Minus 1 star on my review for an almost 2 hour wait for our room ( it was Valentine’s Day, property was busy), however I am not accustomed to this at a Ritz Reserve. We have stayed at Dorado Ritz twice, and other Ritz Reserve properties in the past and had expectations for prompt, personalized service. We were also unaccustomed to the butler service provided at Dorado Ritz. It seemed to be a new butler daily- as opposed to one consistent butler for daytime, and one for night time. Although the butler team had our phone number and was in touch with us daily, it wasn’t the personalized private experience we are expecting from butler service. Having consistency is immeasurable, and makes a huge difference. Our requests from the butler team were cold towels and cucumber slices (for our eyes) to enjoy by the pool/beach while we tanned. The first day the cucumber slices were very thick and heavy, and the second day we were charged $8 for 10 cucumber slices- 80 cents per cucumber slice. It was just inconsistent with what we’ve received in the past. We always request the same thing whenever we are at a property with butler service, and have never been charged for something like this. We just expected a little more personalization, or additional touches during our stay. Especially since we recently stayed on Valentine’s Day (celebrating Valentine’s Day). Ingrid from the butler team was attentive, and provided us with great service. We appreciated her and were grateful for her attentiveness and responsiveness. Other than her, we didn’t personally met any other butlers. And there were many texting us throughout our stay. Overall we love Dorado Ritz and this is our second time on property. We hope if we join in the future there are improvements to the above mentioned

Spent three days this winter and we really enjoyed out time, property is beautiful and service is dienrldy if a bit unpolished. Only reason I can't give it a 5 is because prices are ridiculously high for what you get. At $3k per night for an entry level room you expect to be wowed and this just never happened. Views are beautiful and the resort is secluded and peaceful. Spa service was very nice and recommended anyone ciisitingn to try the spa at least once. Food was good, but service was lacking, at these prices the servers should know exactly who ordered what and deliver it appropriately, not have to ask who ordered what. Another service failure was a dinner reservation our Embajador made with an ofger to pick us up 5 minutes before in a golf cart to bring us to the restaurant. The golf cart ride never materialized. If you have money to throw away, this is a lovely property do spend it at, but if you value your money, you can find better value elsewhere.

5 such an amazing property. Get ready to feel pampered with great food, service, and beauty. I recommend checking out the spa if you have time. All meals were excellent, including poolside service. Such an amazing hotel and property that you never have to leave the hotel. Plenty of activities and walking trails to keep you busy and fit if you want.
