Peace - Nature - Silence. Nature lovers who enjoy priceless amenities of tropical flowers, palm trees and hammocks overlooking a deep blue sea and warm hospitality will find El Momo to be the perfect retreat. It's small, quiet, charming and a little "Robinson Crusoe like"; A little piece of paradise where time moves slowly and attention is paid to details. We have breathtaking sea views and fantastic ocean sunsets from October to March.

Basic but clean cabinets. Friendly and welcome atmosphere. The hosts Andries and Eva are helpful. The stairs up to El Momo are not a con but a plus. This will give you to a fantastic panorama view and a change to see beautiful sunsets. Tip: order scrambled eggs for breakfast.

Buyer beware. Cottage is a long stretch of their imagination. Definitely not where to stay if you don’t like bugs especially mosquitoes. Outhouse is open to the elements which included a brown frog on the sink handle at night. Doors don’t have k’obs they have eye and hooks like sheds. These are shacks with outhouses NOT cottages. Place was filthy. And cleaner was unhappy we asked for the floor to be mopped. Owner pleasant but not honest on the site. Literally a dirt ring around the faucet. This is a place for hikers who line to be grungy. One shack for the beds. Another one requiring a step down for the bathroom. We have stayed in Boyscout camps that were cleaner and better maintained. Be good to yourself. Spend another 20 a night and stay nearby at a hotel where the bathroom is inside and breakfast is included. You wIll thank yourself. As will your sinuses for missing all the mildew in this place. Btw, 100 steps to your rooms. Not at all the place we expected based on the pictures. Would never have booked if we knew the reality. Pool was filled with bugs and dirty. Pool area had tiles that were so dirty we left footprints with wet feet. Overgrown weeds, plumbing pipes running everywhere including hazardously in front of steps. Owner didn’t leave lights on stairs and my partner bruised during a trip. Water in rain water so not drinkable. And toilet is not attractive.

Response from andries bonnema, Owner at El Momo Cottages
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear Karen, I'm sorry your stay wasn't as expected. I heard that your diving was disappointing also. I assume all the restaurants were horrible also? We went through the other reviews you left over the years on various websites. This seems to happen a lot to you. You must have really bad luck. I had no idea there were so many bad places in the world, I might just give up on going on vacation myself. The world is a real hell hole according to your reviews. Fortunately the vast majority of our guests are having a great time, probably because they read the information and realize that our style of accommodation is what they enjoy. Believe it or not, some people find it utterly cool to be surrounded by nature and having a little frog in their bathroom! Some people see a pooldeck shaded by trees, other people apparently see dirty leaves on the pool deck. I guess for some people the glass is full and other people just don't like glasses. And some people don't wine about there being no lights on all night, but absolutely nobody except you complaints about there being no lights on after the sun has come up already... Here's some free advice - consider it a compensation for the $16 charge you wish to dispute: read reviews BEFORE you go somewhere.

We wanted to visit Saba as part of a month long trip in this part of the Caribbean but weren’t sure we could do it affordably. However, our cottage accommodation at El Momo did the trick. Within our price range and allowed us to cook our own meals. OK, we almost died lugging our way too heavy suitcases up the 67 steps but WoW, the view alone is totally worth it. The property is lovely. We stayed in ‘Turtle’ and it felt almost like camping. Deck has a million dollar view, there are comfy beds, loads of places to hang your belongings, bedside tables with reading lights & a mosquito net (we didn’t need). The kitchen is rustic but fully equipped. Pool is little but so refreshing. We will miss the outdoor shower with sunset view. Wifi worked perfectly! We drank the water, after it being filtered by the Brita. There is a lending library, honesty bar and breakfast is available if you wish. We appreciated the loan of the hiking guide and poles while we were there for the week. Also, the cat is friendly:-) Hikes are awesome! The owners work REALLY hard and it shows. Thanks Andries! Our only suggestions are: add a ceiling fan in the bedroom and some hammocks on the property. Also, as you will have the windows open for the lovely be aware that there is a LOT of neighbourhood barking dogs and crowing roosters at ALL hours. It’s definitely not always peaceful. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend.

We loved our time at El Momo. It was a peaceful and rustic stay just outside of the main strip in Windward. The staircase up was worth the view. The pool was quiet and secluded and the place had character (original artwork on the walls, outdoor kitchen in our Cottage in the Sky). It was a fun and nice alternative option for those who love the outdoors and enjoying nature.

So much adventure! El Momo was awesome. So friendly and helpful. Felt like I was friends with the cab driver after the week. Hiking, snorkeling, food, rum and scenery were all great. Best trip I ever had. Thank you Andries and El Momo.

The small cottages are build up an hill overgrown with plants and trees. You get the feeling being in the middle of the rainforest. But with a tremendous vieuw over the valley and the ocean. Take a shower while looking at hummingbirds. A small but nice swimmingpool gives refreshment. Having breakfast looking at birds is possible. At least we can mention that the employees are very helpful. You have to take some stairs to reach your place but Saba is not very flat. Tello and Carlien.

Starting with a couple of important points... the hotel is set into a steep hill and has many steps and no lifts. Secondly, and this is part of its charm, the hotel consists of simple wooden cottages. The room was comfortable, had a kitchenette, a good shower and a fantatsic view. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a little simple, but quite adequate. Restaurants are about 10 - 15 minutes walk away.

Went with my mom and girlfriend for 3 nights. Such a warm welcome from Mark at arrival who took the time to explain about the island and about the ecolodge which is such a magical place in the middle of the tropical nature of Saba. I will recommend this place to everyone and feel the peace of the island and special thanks to Mark our host. Have fun everyone.

My husband and I stayed here a couple of times and each time had an amazing stay. If you love nature but also want amenities close by, this is your place. Windwardside is just a ten minute walk away (be prepared for uphill walks!), while El Momo's cottages are situated in a perfectly quiet, tropical environment. We never got tired of the views and spent many a night at the cosy honesty bar overlooking the ocean and the hills of Saba. We will definitely be back!

El Momo is the perfect place to stay when you are on Saba. Friendly services from the hosts Andries and Eva, lots of nature and stunning scenery all around. There is a swimming pool and the location is not far from Windwardside, if you would like to eat out in a restaurant. Highly recommended!
