Having made reservations, we expected our table to be ready ... We were not greeted, not asked to wait, and when we had finally helped ourselves to a table, we were asked to move. The waitress tried to make us as comfortable as possible, but the start was really bad, and since it was already late, we could not leave... More

The location is perfect, right on the boardwalk in phillipsburg. The hotel is OK and a bit dated. The shower was luke warm. Also right now there is light construction going on. If you want something posh, go to Holland House. If you want something reasonable right on the boardwalk, its a decent choice.

This is an older remodeled hotel that is clean and nicely furnished. I had an ocean view room and it was great seeing if a cruise ship was in port or not each morning. My room was very comfortable and nicely furnished. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. I ate mostly breakfast in the restaurant and they were... More

Pasanggrahan hotel: clean, location is great, staff is kind. The front office manager, Colbert, is the best! From check in to check out, she treated us as family and made us feel welcome. We got a free upgrade to a junior suite. Great view! You ask and they make it happen.

What a beautiful experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the sites of the island and the service was excellent. The location is perfect. Shops in the front, the beach and the boardwalk in the back. Outstanding view of the sea, cruise ships, and the Island Sabo. Two types of rooms, our friends stayed in the newer section... More

Would I stay here again? If I were going to be doing Jewelry shopping that took time, yes. Otherwise, probably not. Big problem? To get this hotel you have to drive backwards on front street. If there's traffic, forget about it. They need hours the front street 'block' starts posted on the booking pages of all websites. Otherwise, might spend... More

This is a great value in a glorious spot downtown. Access directly to beach, pleasant rooms, old style colonial guest reception, good breakfasts and right on the main shopping street. Also, easy walk to bus for Marigot and short step to grocery store across from boardwalk. Very convenient and well-priced.

The history of the hotel influenced my decision to stay there, being one of oldest on Front Street. Our stay only lasted four nights, but we made the best of it. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by the front desk rep. The staff was overly courteous, warm and friendly. I felt right then and there that she... More

Was fortunate to have stayed at this lovely hotel over the Fourth of July holiday. The hotel is located right on the beach in Philipsburg making it convenient to shopping and restaurants. An absolutely classically beautiful inn. A refreshing change from the boring resorts. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. The staff and attention is very personal. The view is gorgeous and the location perfect. The food is excellent.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
