Relais San Maurizio is a unique, unforgettable place. Refined and romantic, it is the ideal place for a true time of wellness, relaxation, soothing the senses and the spirit. An unexpected, happy discovery. The frescoed halls, the 31 rooms with unique decorations, the gardens and the park with centuries-old trees are all truly enchanting. The large outdoor swimming pool at the top of the hill provides a 360° view of the surrounding landscape. The hotel is also home to the Michelin starred 'di Guido da Costigliole' restaurant and the exclusive 'La Via del Sale' Medical & Beauty SPA. It is a partner of the Relais & Chateaux chain.

Gorgeous setting and a very relaxing atmosphere. The spa is magnificent, with salt baths and a phenomenal swimming pool. The grounds are manicured and just go on forever, and if you catch the time while there are not too many people around, you will feel like you are in some outer reality. The monks who founded the place in the 1600s certainly knew where to hide. The rooms could use a bit of a face lift, but it is hard to criticize nice people who try very hard to make you happy. Perfect place to park yourself and enjoy all the beauty and great food of the area. Speaking of food…this not a place to eat. See my other review on the subject. If the food was better the place would be 6star!

Relais San Maurizio is a superb boutique hotel.
Public spaces and gardens are amazing.
On the top of a hill in the middle of the “langhe” region, surrounded by vineyards with plenty of colours.
Rooms are very comfortable and silent.
Staff is very professional.
Breakfast and Bistro restaurant are top quality. Waiters are always nearby and can help with any request. Always smiling.
We enjoyed some specific experiences (such as making cocktails together with the experienced bartender, salt cave, etc) that made our stay here even more enjoyable and unforgettable.
Something unique and to suggest to single, couples or families that appreciate good quality of life/food!
We would definitely come back again!

Usually Im a difficult guest, always see something I am not pleased about. This is different. So stunning, this convent from 1619, old fashioned antique where you want it to be and completely up to date where you want that as well. The service is so good because people are genuinely friendly, the food is just ridiculous, sooooooo good, and the wine! Its wine wine wine wherever you go, surrounded by vineyards, the views are so pretty. I feel humble, Im so spoiled after 8 days with my hubby, I would recommend anyone, please go there to relax. And the air is completely clean, so much nature. If you like noise and mac donalds, stay away!

I stayed at the hotel for the second time with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday.
I stayed in the suite with my boyfriend. The room was big but the bed absolutely tiny for two people. We both had the worst broken sleep all week.
The food portions are extremely small and fussy.
We asked for a simple spaghetti and garlic dish but were told there was no garlic and no spaghetti! How can this be in Italy? I did not find the staff flexible at all.
It’s such a shame that a place with such wonderful views is let down by mediocre service. Thé lunch menu is the same as the evening menu which is limited to about 4 tiny options - In thé end we had to drive to the next village to eat at meal times.
I would only go back again if the hotel invest in new beds and change the menu.
It’s for sure over priced for the service and standard

I am really sorry you did not enjoy a delightful and memorable stay as much as we had anticipated. I do hope that we will have the opportunity to turn around your experience for you in the future. We returned to the Relais as every year and unfortunately, what a disappointment, many things have changed for the worse unfortunately.
The spa facility leaks water from the ceiling there are several things that don't work door stuck in closed hay room where water is dripping from the ceiling. Although the cave must be booked, it is no longer for exclusive use even though you are only inside for thirty minutes.
In cold environments you have nowhere to warm up because there are drafts everywhere. Towels are not available there on site but you have to ask. It is no longer possible to eat a sandwich comfortably sitting in the spa because they have removed the service you have to go to the bar or the restaurant 😱 to forget you eat terrible ravioli that taste like nothing meat is said to be cut so small that it seems like a tasting not in line with the prices very high.
It hurts a lot to think that a place like this that bears the name of Luxuri resort has sunk so low.
The people who come to these places are willing to pay but they want to feel good and be pampered, not to drink a coffee from a machine with watered-down pods or to see a buffet with three sour apples without knives or plates and two jars of hazelnuts with three herbal teas. shabby.
Look for staff who are not there because they are busy elsewhere. The organization needs to be improved, the staff needs to be improved and the structure needs to be renovated... we have been customers for years but we will go elsewhere.

Its location is the biggest asset of the hotel. The views from the hotels gardens or the outdoors swimming pool are spectacular. The spa with the salt cave and its sun terrace is unique.
We booked an executive room in the monastery for 6 nights. I insisted on a room with a patio garden so we could sit cosy outside. Luckily we did, because the room was rather small and dark (overpriced !). The bathroom is tiny, dark and the shower is unpractical.
The service in the hotel varies... reception staff is uninterested and totally unhelpful. The welcoming was very cold and checkout was even colder.
(no luggage service arriving of departing, no explication on the services and facilities, booking a table in one of the restaurants is too much to ask, and when leaving, not even asking whether we had a good stay or wishing to a good trip home, just a bill and a pay terminal).
A total contrast with the friendly restaurant staff. Which brings me to the restaurant service. Breakfast is good, not outstanding but being served on the lovely terrace makes it special.
We had twice diner in the bistro which offers a very good light kitchen.
We had diner twice in the outstanding Michelin Star restaurant Guido which merits an excellent separate review here.
I can only give a 3 star rating. We booked with LWH but this hotel does not meet the requirements one's expect from a Leading hotel.
* overpriced rooms
* uninterested and inattentive staff
* grounds need more maintenance
* no 5 star experience
* both the Bistro as the Guido restaurant are highly recommendable

Dear Mr. De Jaegher, on behalf of Relais San Maurizio, I would like to thank you for taking the time to highlight your experience during your stay in 2020 with us. We acknowledge your review refers to an experience of a couple of years ago and are happy to know that your impression about the location, the views and our impeccable restaurant and Spa service were good. On the other hand, I do regret you were disappointed about the size of the room, unfortunately due to the fact that we are in a historic building we have some structural limitations as you may imagine, though our hotel has a great variety of solutions to satisfy all clients’ needs, maybe a larger Superior room or a Suite would have been better solutions. Most of the procedures you refer to were established during the 2020 peak of the pandemic (digital checkout, less interactions etc.) following Covid-social distancing hotel guidelines and regulations, we were doing our best to respect them and at the same time provide a top-quality service safeguarding our client’s safety and health. We apologize if your perception was not always up to your expectations, we are happy to confirm several procedures have changed in the meantime as guidelines and regulations have improved together with the pandemic situation. We do hope that despite the inconveniences you still enjoyed your stay, and that you will be willing to give us another try in the future. We are thrilled our Spa manager and colleagues looked after you exceptionally, and that our restaurants were up to your expectations. It is our primary aim to make sure that our guests have a memorable time and when we succeed in that we are extremely pleased. Kindest regards Konstantinos Paraskevas Guest Relations

Stayed at the hotel on a short stay with my wife. The hotel was situated amongst the vineyards on one of the highest hills in a converted monastery with views that were simply amazing. The road to the hotel was both extremally windy and a joy to drive in daylight with the senary surrounding you.
The hotel met all our requirements in terms of facilities, from the pools to spa and the accommodation which included outside space to have an evening drink whilst watching the sunset go down. Food in the restaurants was excellent and the breakfast was extensive and very relaxing in the surrounding senary. What made the hotel for us though was the staff who made the stay incredibly enjoyable and a big thankyou to the reception team for their advice and recommendations.
Our recommendation is to have a car if staying at the hotel as you will need this to get around and visit the local sites and to get to the hotel.

The hotel (building) is fantastic and has a great location between the vineyards.
It is a 5-star hotel and is affiliated with The Leading Hotels. We have visited many hotels in this luxury class and therefore we have a critical review of this hotel. What you notice is that the passion and experience to live up to this honorable 5-star service has slipped away. If the right team is not assembled and the provision of the highest service is compromised, the decline is unstoppable.
In the spa, for example, maintenance is poor. A large part of the light spots in the ceiling do not work and others have once been replaced with a spotlight with a different color. The speakers in the spa are browned out. The two restaurant on the resort are good, but again the passion of the team to offer better than good is missing. Organizationally messy, no party on your plate and not everything equally fresh. This despite a Michelin star that has one of the restaurants.
The spaces in the complex are atmosphereless and therefore the bar often remains empty or lacks the right vibe. Mediocre has become the norm and no longer the ambition to be among the top.
We had driven quite a few kilometers to stay here for a few days, but still regretted it.
The team works extremely hard, but that is not what matters. What are you doing?
Our room/suite was very neat and well equipped. Good working air conditioning and good beds.

A location that dominates over views worthy of being named a UNESCO heritage site, rich in important history and lineage, it excites from the first step after the entrance gate. So many comforts and conveniences really allow you to unplug and let yourself be pleasantly lulled and pampered.
Cozy rooms, finely cared for and furnished. Excellent culinary offer both in the starred restaurant and in the bistro. Knowledgeable and very welcoming staff. A beautiful SPA and a fantastic centuries-old park complete everything.
Chapeau and goodbye

Superb relay in a very nice place.
Rooms, service, breakfast, garden, pool, perfect location.
On the other hand the restaurant Guido is a big disappointment.
Roborative cuisine, uninspired, very expensive and unpleasant borderline service. Incomprehensible that this restaurant can be listed in the Michelin with a star.
If you are staying, it is probably wiser to try the bistro.
The difference in quality between the hotel and the restaurant Guido is surprising.
