Our family vacation at this property was amazing. The hotel staff did an incredible job across the board. One of the highlights is their club lounge where the level of service was above and beyond all expectations. If you have the option, book your room with club lounge access. We were blessed and made friends with other families traveling that we still stay in touch with today. We would definitely go back and stay here again. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff for making this trip special.

For some reason this stay was a little trying (11/24 - 11/28). 1st was that on the monday before I traveled I put in a request through my ambassador to have my room changed to a double queen or for them to provide a rollaway bed. When I arrived neither had been done. I asked the front desk agent to assure we had one. Was told no problem and she called and told them to do so.. We went to eat and to sit on the beach with the children. Came back after 8 to no rollaway. I called the front desk and was told sorry Mr Cobb but we don't have any more. I proceed to tell her someone needs to find one bacause i put my request in days before. I also sent the same message to the AYS from the app low and behold an hour later they brought up the bed. I am glad they rectified the issue but it should not have been an issue. 2nd Calling the front desk and noone answers the phone. You get the answering machine that says messages are full. I have never ever seen that and it was constant. When I did get someone the girl said "sorry I was taking room service orders. Why isn't someone else doing this. The hotel was at 90%+ capacity it was a holiday weekend. 3rd For the last 2 nights we would only get towels no hand towels or washcloths. I had to call down (see #2) take forever to get someone and ask for washcloths. Considering we had been out all day at the beach my family was tired and wanted to shower and get some rest. It was a couple of hours and then I left the room to go to the fro t desk. On my way up I see housekeeping staff on a cart with laundry I asked if he could give me towels and washcloths, he gives them to me. The next night same thing. I don't understand why this was a problem. The staff at this Hotel were very nice and courteous and as attentive as can be. I will tell you that I really feel like because I used points for this stay my service was lacking. I have been loyal to the Marriott brand for over 22 years, I am lifetime Titanium and Ambassador Elite. I have spent over $20k in hotel stays this year and I don't feel like my Elite status means anything. What has happened to the service provided to Marriotts most loyal customers?

We paid extra for a larger room and were happy we did so, as it was very comfortable and had a bath tub. I would suggest staying in the A or B buildings as they are closer to the pool and restaurants. However were we to return we would opt to stay at the 3 bedroom condos where the rates are even lower than at the hotel. Apparently they are lovely. The large main hotel pool is beautiful and pleasant to swim in. The beach though has a lot of coral and stones. However we managed to zig zag our way into the ocean on the sandy parts. Fortunately we have water shoes for protection. One lady told us that she stepped on a sea urchin and it was painful. We enjoyed our ocean swims as the views of St. John are gorgeous in daytime and at night. We also visited the facilities at the condo residences which was enjoyable but we preferred the hotel section. The hotel location is great for day trips to St. John; only 5 minutes to the ferry and 30 minutes to St. John. We visited Trunk Beach which is gorgeous to swim in; only $6 by bus each way and about 10 minutes away from the ferry terminal. You can rent chairs and there are facilities on the beach. Charlotte Amalie is about 20 minutes away from the hotel; the airport about 30 minutes. The food at the Italian restaurant was unedible. We ordered half a chicken and were served the thigh which was basically rubber. I would suggest sticking to pasta. My fish was edible but bland. One night we ate out at the Caribbean fish restaurant; good food. My advice request to eat outside in the main area. They could not find our reservation and were seated in the back. Breakfast in the dining room was pleasant. the staff delightful. I think the attendant's name was Valerie who spoke French and the gentleman from Haiti. We were also impressed by the building engineer who helped us get a golf cart for our luggage as they were busy. I think his name was Victor but I am not sure. Doug the concierge was also super helpful and patient. We enjoyed also eating lunch and breakfast at the little cafe. Overall we were happy with our stay and enjoyed it.

This review is of our stay in the Club Level Presidential Suite. Our first experience was in booking an SUV transfer from the airport. I sent our arrival date, flight time, and flight number, and asked for an SUV. The concierge sent back a form asking for the same exact info but copied and pasted into a little template. While minor, I found it a little shocking that the concierge would ask us to do something they could have done themselves in 30 seconds (especially when we ere paying $200 each way for a 30 minute transfer). I emailed the concierge prior to our stay to book spa appointments; they said they would forward my request to the spa and I didn’t hear back. Upon arrival, we asked about spa appointments and were told they were booked out for the duration of our stay, and that we should have contacted them in advance. We finally made it to our room, the Presidential Suite, for which we paid full price. It has a great bathroom and a nice deck, but the living room was a waste of space. It had low ceilings and wasn’t very nice. The furniture was in poor condition for any hotel, let alone the presidential suite of a supposedly 5-star property. Photos of the chair next to the bed are included - it was both torn and stained. The lobby building is beautiful, but the rest of the architecture is an eyesore (with five different arch styles!). The oddest part is the path from the building with the presidential suite to the pool area. It felt like a back alley, past the dumpsters behind the pool restaurant. As is all too common to supposedly 5-star hotels, it was hard to find a seat by the pool or beach, as most were covered with dirty towels from guests long gone. The only bar on premises in the evening was was loud and brightly lit, with slow service and insufficient seating. The pool bar was occupied the first evening by a church group loudly playing a documentary on the evils of absentee fathers. Not really the vibe we were hoping for. The mosquitoes were bad in the evenings; they provided bug spray but property-wide control would have been great. The club level lounge was a nice feature; we’d recommend that if you choose to stay here. Our favorite part was the easy complimentary access to water sports, including hobby cats and paddle boards. The only downside here was the paddle board paddles were mostly jammed and couldn’t be adjusted; this was a bit ridiculous from a place at this price point. We asked for late checkout, and were told simply “We aren’t allowed to offer any late checkouts today”. This was despite the Presidential Suite still being available for the following night. My wife spoke with a manager to discuss our concerns; the manager promised a credit of Marriott Bonvoy Points equivalent to $50,000 in spend. We never received this credit; I’m not sure if it was a false promise or a lack of execution. Somehow we only received 1,370 points for our $7,000 stay; that’s half of what we received for a $500 stay at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta the night prior. We spent over $3k per night, yet in many ways the experience was that of a dumpy motel. Against the bar of a 5 star hotel, this was our worst stay ever, despite paying for the presidential suite. 1/5 stars.

What happened was 2 back to back hurricanes in 2017 and then pandemic. Place has never been the same. Used to be able to come every Sept and pay off season rates. Everything was fantastic. Now rooms are outrageously priced all year long with service going downhill. Can't afford the prices now and with all the bad reviews will prob never be able to return.
