West Lodge Park Hotel is a beautiful country house hotel set in 35 acres of grounds on the edge of North London. It has been owned and run by three generations of the Beale family since 1945 and now has 59 bedrooms, the Mary Beale Restaurant and Terrace Bar, 8 stunning banqueting rooms, and plentiful free parking. The hotel is located just a mile from Cockfosters Tube station where there is a large car park and frequent trains on the Piccadilly Line to all the sights of central London. Around the hotel is the magnificent Beale Arboretum, with over 800 species of trees from around the world, 2 national collections of hornbeams and swamp cypresses, and plentiful hard paths and interpretive signage. The hotel is also home to the Edward Beale collection of Old master paintings, most of which have been painted by the ancestor of the family, Mary Beale, who was Britain's first professional woman artist, painting at the time of Charles II. It would be a pleasure to welcome you to this beautiful hotel. Andrew BealeManaging DirectorBeales Hotels

We stayed here over Christmas whilst visiting family nearby. A lovely hotel, our room was in an outside lodge, very adequate although an update would probably be welcome. Breakfast was good, great selection, a selection of yoghurts would be nice. It would be nice to have a link from the hotel to the lodges for when it is wet, a gym would be nice too!

Lovely hotel surrounded by beautiful grounds, even in January. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. Breakfast was good and the coffee excellent! Staff were friendly and helpful, and we felt welcomed. Would definitely return.

We had a wonderful time at West Lodge. This is a charming hotel with well-appointed rooms (we had an amazing bathtub) and lovely staff. A particular mention goes to James who served us at dinner and was so friendly and helpful. We have special dietary requirements and these were taken care of effortlessly at both dinner and breakfast. The food was delicious and drinks too. We especially enjoyed after dinner drinks by the fire. A lovely, relaxing stay. Thank you.

I took my niece here for a treat and although the lounge is very comfortable and a lovely setting , the food was a little disappointing. The sandwiches were fine but a little bland . Our cream with the scones was hard and we couldn’t even spread it. We mentioned this to our server and they took it away but the exact same dish was returned after being zapped in the microwave!! Scones did not taste freshly baked. We asked for a fresh tea pot and when it arrived they left the old teapot on the table and had to be reminded to remove it. On the upside the staff were very friendly and attentive and our server did explain that he was new. Sadly this was a very mediocre experience . I think the management would do well to visit Sopwell house and see the quality of their teas.

I was taken for lunch by my children and opted for the Christmas food. This was terribly disappointing … 1 piece of parsnip, 3 sprouts and carrots and 1 slice of turkey which was mostly stuffing. This is not the size of meal I would ever dream of serving, especially not to paying customers! I didn’t complain at the time as I didn’t want to cause a fuss and spoil the day. Needless to say I will not be recommending West Lodge which is a shame as the setting is lovely. I have e mailed my complaint too but so far, have not had a reply.

Response from Chris Hall, Owner at West Lodge Park Hotel

Dear Barbara, We have tried and tested this dish over the years and find it to be a good sized meal and with great flavours. The turkey slice itself is a very thick slice of stuffed & rolled turkey breast, some parts of the meat will naturally have more stuffing. Nonetheless, its a shame you didn't enjoy it and we are sorry that you were disappointed. Kind regards Chris Hall General Manager
