This is a lovely hotel. The food is great, the hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. BUT. The owner/manager should learn to respect his staff and customers. His moods and the way he speaks to people makes you wonder why he is in the business. Pity, as this hotel is in such a lovely...

My wife & I stayed over the Easter weekend. We booked a sea view room & were delighted with the remoteness of the hotel & to have such wonderful views over Balcary Bay & the Solway & to watch the ever changing scene as the tide ebbed & flowed. We are keen birdwatchers & it was good to study the...

We've been coming here for the last 10 years and would thoroughly recommend staying here. We usually travel up on the Thursday before Easter to avoid the bank holiday traffic but decided to stay an extra night this year by driving up on the Wednesday. There was definitely much less traffic. This is one of the few places I would...

It also has a handful of lovely staff, who clearly want to give guests the best possible experience during their stay. What we hadn't anticipated though was the atmosphere in the hotel, which was stuffy and, at times,...

We stopped off here for a drink when driving down the coast and found it to have great views from the conservatory bar, as well as a welcome smile from the staff. The bar contained a tray with snacks, including quails' eggs and there was also a helpful price list. I did think the wine a little over-priced at £8.50...

If you're after long boozy nights, piped music and food-service catering, you've come to the wrong place. The unashamedly old-school charm of Balcary Bay acts like a balm to soothe frazzled nerves. Understated country house charm, smiling service, comforting-to-excellent cooking and views to die for: that's the Balcary way. A couple of days here, and you'll leave realising that there...

First time back this year and just as good as last year and the year before. Rooms beautiful and food great and the service is second to none. Only the weather could be better. If you are there on a clear night do not miss the chance to see the stars - it is a sight not to be forgotten....
