We were disappointed to learn that our favourite bar haunt with pool table was not open for food anymore- covid and staffing? It used to make the best club sandwiches ever. However we tried the restaurant for dinner and it was great- great food and outstanding service. We don't stay in the hotel but if my wife comes again she wants to stay here rather than the more luxurious establishment to the north. Walking round the grounds and along the stunning atlantic frontage is memorable.

We stayed from 23rd Dec 2021 to 3rd Jan 2022. We had the most wonderful holiday there. We stayed in Se La Vie Cottage villa. It was perfect for our needs with a beautiful view of the Atlantic. The hotel were so helpful, so friendly, really lovely. Gill there sorted everything we needed from a hire car, amazing breakfasts, bone fishing, reef fishing, diving, snorkelling. The rooms were lovely and cleaned daily. The beach is very cool and also the Nature Pool is awesome. If you like relaxed living in and friendly people, while relaxing in paradise, then this is the place for you! We will be back soon!

After a COVID-abbreviated visit to Stella Maris last summer my husband and I decided to vacation there again this summer, this time staying at the Sea La Vie property. Sea La Vie is a 2 bedroom / 2.5 bath house with a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean. It's elevation affords wonderful breezes too, and we enjoyed perfect weather during our stay. The bedrooms and 2 bathrooms are in one wing of the house, and the living room/dining room/kitchen and powder room are on the other side. In-between is a patio and breezeway -- there's an outdoor dining table (seats 6, in the shade), and 2 lounge chairs that are perfect to use for sun bathing during the day and star gazing at night. With the constant breeze it was delightful to enjoy this outdoor space. Both bedrooms have full ocean views, as does the main living area. I've attached a photo of a sunrise, as seen from the master bedroom. What a lovely way to start the day! The kitchen has frankly seen better days, but it's spacious and fully functional. The kitchen is equipped with the basics for preparing meals, should you wish to do so. The house is an easy 2-minute walk to Stella Maris' main pool and beach bar & grill. I'd suggest renting a car if you stay (the house has a carport with shade). When exploring the island I'd recommend checking out Docky's (for fishing expeditions and boat tours during the day, and for the restaurant/bar when open in the evenings). Docky's also has a nice gift shop for souvenirs -- all within a 5-minute drive of the resort. For an amazing meal, take a drive to Chez Pierre (but call first for reservations). I believe I posted a restaurant review for Chez Pierre last summer on TripAdvisor... We returned 2 more times on this trip, and believe me Chez Pierre did not disappoint! It's about a 30 minute drive from Stella Maris, but well worth it. Cape Santa Maria, one of the prettiest beaches I've ever seen, is about a 15-20 minute drive from Sea La Vie; the Columbus Monument is not far from there and affords spectacular views of the coastline in that area. Dean's Blue Hole is about an hour drive away. It's a unique and scenic place to visit (scuba diving can sometimes be arranged in the blue hole, as well as around other areas of the island -- the diving overall is excellent). One day we drove pretty far south to the Clarence Town area, and had a very nice lunch at Lighthouse Point. They're located adjacent to a marina and offer indoor and outdoor dining. We had a lovely lunch outside overlooking the water. Stella Maris' Moonshine Bar & Grill is always a good option as well, with tasty food, friendly service, a full bar, and beautiful views. There used to be a more formal indoor restaurant at Stella Maris (which we loved), but it's still closed due to the pandemic. Hopefully they'll eventually be able to reopen that once tourism gets more back to normal. A quick note about driving on Long Island: The roads are rough, so a jeep/SUV is a good choice for rental car. The good news is that there's not much traffic, and there are NO traffic lights. Reminder to drive on the left! Long Island isn't for everyone -- you won't find much in the way of "night life" here or anything glitzy, but if you're looking for natural beauty, friendly people, and a chance to truly relax and unwind then I highly recommend it. Let's put it this way: while staying on Long Island this summer the "Stress Meter" on my husband and my smartwatches both registered a stress level of "2 out of 100" -- that pretty much says it all!

We had a wonderful vacation on Long Island earlier this month, and Stella Maris was a great part of what made it very special. We stayed in the sand dollar cottage and it was delightful. The views are incredible and it was a treat having our morning coffee in the screened patio overlooking the ocean! While the season was basically over, we found plenty of places to eat. Our favorite place was Docky's Flats Bar. The seafood was so delicious!! Everyone at Stella Maris was pleasant and helpful. Jill had everything organized and that made for a stress-free trip. While my husband fished with Docky, I found Stella Maris to be a wonderful place to relax, and definitely look forward to a return trip soon!! Thank you everyone at Stella Maris!!!! Bonafide Bonefishing- I was lucky enough to fish for three days with Docky. I found him to be an excellent guide and great guy to fish with. Thanks to Docky's guiding skills, patience and well trained eyes I was able to hook-up with many beautiful bonefish. I am relatively new to saltwater fly fishing and have a long way to go- even with my limited skills Docky made it possible for me to have chance after chance to cast to the fine fish found on Long Island. He also taught me a lot about the flats and gave me a casting clinic while we fished. Docky is quite an entrepreneur with knowledge of and interest in many things beside the fish.

My family was fortunate to vacation at Stella Maris Resort during the few weeks in July 2020 when the Bahamas was open to tourists from the U.S. This was our 3rd visit to Stella Maris in ~12 years, and I hope it won't be our last. We were originally supposed to vacation during May, but had to postpone because the Bahamas borders were closed due to the pandemic. We rescheduled for July in hopes that the situation would improve by then. Needless to say COVID was still very much with us, but we managed to make the trip happen -- but not without a lot of re-planning and anxiety over getting our COVID test results back in time and having to revise flight schedules more than once. Jill (partner/manager at Stella Maris) was wonderful to work with as we navigated our way through deciding whether or not to come, and what options we should consider. She answered all of my many questions, and was 100% supportive to do what she could to get us there. I very much appreciate all of her help. Due to the pandemic, we were forewarned that the resort's bar and restaurant would not be operational, so we basically rented the Rainbow Villa "Air BNB" style -- Jill arranged for a rental Jeep so that we could explore Long Island and drive to area restaurants that were open on the island, and she stocked our kitchen and bar prior to arrival based on my shopping list. We had the Rainbow House to ourselves, so it was the perfect place for "social distancing". The house has 3 bedrooms (each with its own full bath), an open concept great room, and a fully stocked modern kitchen. The best features of the house are its private pool and views of the ocean beyond. Absolutely beautiful! There's also a gazebo overlooking the ocean, my favorite place to read. There's a SmartTV in the great room, and a DVD player as well (an eclectic collection of DVDs are on site, along with quite a few books that you can borrow to read while you're there). There is WiFi at the house (but it doesn't reach the downstairs bedroom). Drinking water is "potable" (won't make you sick), but it doesn't taste good. No worries though, just inside the front door is a water cooler with purified water that is chilled and tastes fine. This was a family trip -- my husband, me, and our two grown children in their early 20s. It was fun to revisit a locale that we'd been to with them when they (and we) were 10 years younger. I will say the Rainbow Villa (aka Rainbow House) looked somewhat worse for wear than it had 10 years ago -- it's still an absolutely lovely place to vacation, but the tile work on the pool looked tired, the big sliding doors were sticky, one of the A/C units seemed to struggle. But to be fair, with the COVID shutdowns we were probably one of the first visitors to stay there in quite a while. Between last year's hurricane and this year's pandemic I can understand why things might not be perfect just yet. That said, the pros far outweighed the cons. The Bahamas is my happy place, and Long Island is one of my favorite Bahamian islands. It's remote, quite, and relaxed. Everyone is friendly, and it is not at all commercialized. In this traveler's opinion, it's a perfect place to unwind and get away from it all for a bit. Stella Maris Resort has a great laid-back vibe, and the locale along the Atlantic coast is gorgeous. Nearby Cape Santa Maria beach is one of the prettiest beaches in the world, no exaggeration. The crystal blue waters are incredible! If you visit and want to explore, beware that the roads are rough. The "highway" that traverses the length of the island is the best road you'll find, and it's not good. On the plus side, there are NO traffic lights on Long Island! The side roads and back roads are a trip... narrow, mostly overgrown, and full of some very rocky stretches. A rugged car (preferable a jeep of SUV) is a must if you plan to drive much. One thing that's changed for the better in the past 10 years is the Columbus Monument, overlooking the harbor where Columbus' ships anchored when "discovering America". The views are stunningly beautiful (as they always have been). On our prior visits getting to the monument was a bit of a challenging uphill hike, but since then a paved walkway and steps have been installed which make it far more accessible. Bravo for that improvement! If you're lucky enough to visit when the resort's restaurants and bars are open you'll be in good hands I'm sure. If you want to explore other dining options, I'd recommend Docky's Flats for indoor/outdoor dining/drinks/dancing (about a 5-minute drive from the resort). Docky is a bit of a local legend - Flats seems to be a side venture (currently only open a few days per week), the rest of the week Docky captains a boat for various excursions -- mostly well known for bone fishing, but other types of excursions are available as well. During our visit we went out with him for a boat trip to visit swimming pigs, snorkel in a few spots, and take a sunset cruise. It was one of the highlights of this trip. If you have a car, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND driving to Chez Pierre's for dinner (just be sure to call ahead - reservations are a must). It's about a 30 minute drive away, and totally worth it. I'll post a separate review, but suffice to say we ate there twice during our visit, it was that good. We also enjoyed a very nice (albeit expensive) dinner at Cape Santa Maria Resort. Worth a visit as well. I highly recommend Stella Maris Resort if you're looking for an island destination that's off the beaten path. Truly a place to get away and "recharge" your spirits. Enjoy!

The staff was very helpful and courteous, and our accommodations were very nice. Our bungalow was spacious and clean, and close to the restaurant and bar. The food was good, but not exceptional, and quite pricey compared to other restaurants we tried. A free shuttle provided transportation to some beautiful beaches, and we rented a vehicle to explore Dean's Blue Hole and the southern portion of the island. We felt there was a conflict of interest regarding bonefishing. Jill Smith, the manager of the resort, was very helpful to us, but she recommends her husband, Docky Smith at Bonafide Bonefishing, as the best guide. We booked two days with him, and found him to be unpleasantly arrogant and self-centered. Thinking perhaps he was just having a bad day, we gave him the benefit of the doubt and went with him on the second day. We regret that, as the personality conflict was enough to ask him to take us back early. He may have the knowledge, but not the skills to communicate with his clients in a way to make the day fun and enjoyable, which it should be when you're paying over $500 a day for a good guide. So BEWARE when booking a guide, there are several other qualified guides on the island to choose from. We spoke with other fishermen that had a similar experience with him.

What a wonderful place. This is such a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle in the US. No TV, No Locks - just nice friendly service and nice views and great food at the restsraunt. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I’d you’re a pilot - the airport is 5 min. Away and easy in and out.

We stayed at Rainbow House and enjoyed our stay despite challenging weather. The house was beautiful and comfortable. We had a water cooler for drinking water and the beds were comfortable. The resort is located on the rocky Atlantic side of the island and is very natural with beautiful palm trees. The staff were overall friendly, especially Queen, Domenic and Stephanie. Although we did not meet Jill during our visit, she was friendly and helpful when we spoke over the phone. The Moonshine Bar was buggy when we first arrived but the wind picked up and the noseeums were gone for the rest of the week. We enjoyed our Mahi sandwiches and Goombay Smash drinks there. That first day we learned that baby oil is a must for noseeums. Although drivers are available to take guests to different beaches, we chose to rent a car for the week and we are glad that we did. The happiest guests that we met during our stay at Stella Maris had rental cars to go exploring during the day. Our group spent days at Cape Santa Maria beach, Dean’s Blue Hole and a day trip down south with Long Island boat rentals. My husband and son went fly fishing with Docky Smith, arranged through Stella Maris and loved it. The weather was not perfect, but we had plenty of fun. In fact, if you are looking for perfect, the Out Islands are probably not for you.

Where to start. Stella Maris is a great place to visit. I have been to Long Island at least 6 times and always take the Stella Maris shuttle to get there. Joel is a excellent pilot. We feel very safe with him. The resort is great. It provides a lot of activities from fishing to swimming to exploring. There is always sometime to do. If you get a chance, go to the party in "the cave". Do your self. Visit Long Island and Stella Maris. Doug
