Our stay at Emerald Resort & Spa in an over-water villa with pool for our honeymoon was pure bliss. The resort's location was breathtaking, with crystal-clear turquoise waters right at our doorstep. The over-water villa was a luxurious sanctuary, offering privacy and seclusion, with direct access to the lagoon from our private deck. The villa was beautifully appointed with modern amenities and elegant decor, and the panoramic views of the ocean were simply mesmerising. The resort's spa was a haven of relaxation, with indulgent treatments that left us feeling rejuvenated and pampered. The resort's staff were incredibly attentive, polite and friendly who always went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. A huge thank you in particular to Kumar, our villa host, who made anything possible… not to mention Nabe, Omkar, Inaz, Laxman, Amit, Sharuvash & our spa therapists, who all helped to make our stay so incredible. Hotel's Favourite
We have previously stayed at brilliant luxury resorts including Veligandu, Kuramathi and Como Maalifushi, however Emerald blew all the others out the water. Whilst every island is different and we always enjoy new experiences, this island had the best overall service, and was personal and attentive in ways we haven't experienced before. So many amazing people work here and the management take customer experience really seriously. I met Pankaj, the Director of Front Office early on in my stay and it was clear that he was keen to connect with guests personally and always asked for feedback, I thought this was a great approach for management and it made me feel valued as a guest. The accommodation was fantastically positioned, so every location felt private and it was the first place we have stayed where beach villas are truly on the beach! We opted for a water villa with a pool, which if you can stretch to, is the best experience, you can't beat being on water in such a luxury and spacious villa, and I would say accommodation wise, it was right up there with Kuramathi and Como for size, especially the deck and sunbed space. My sister and family however had a family beach villa with pool which was a great alternative for someone with more than one child (our son is 11 and loves the water villas). There is a really well stocked mini bar in the room, which is restocked daily and has wine, beer, soft drinks, pringles, nuts, and even chocolate bars and harribo! our son was in heaven and it was a nice extra touch. The room cleaners were amazing, cleaned twice daily and loads of fun towel art left on the bed, we loved it! You are provided with bikes for your stay which were great fun, we loved cycling along the boardwalk through the island to breakfast and snorkelling each morning and despite needing a little maintenance here and there, this wasn't an issue as they have dedicated maintenance team for the bikes, who your villa host will send round to blow up your tyres or oil your chain etc. On of the things we loved was that you can actually walk around the entire island, whilst you need flip flops for one part which is coral and stone, 90% of it is beautiful beaches, straight off a Maldivian brochure! Truly spectacular and they keep the beaches pristine! You are greeted by a villa host who will provide you with their whatsapp number when you arrive. Ours was Areef and we cannot speak highly enough of him. We joked that he was 'stealth like' as he would just appear everywhere we went to check on us, he made all our dinner reservations (and changed them whenever our plans changed), he booked our dolphin cruise and spa treatments and was generally fantastic at helping with all general information. Areef was also a lovely guy and we felt very lucky to have been looked after by him, it was a real honour to meet him and we felt by the end of our 13night stay we had made a friend. The F&B team were the best we have ever experienced, the food was up there with other places but the wine selection was immense! No just white or red here, it was a menu of 42 wines and champagnes for you to choose from, which would have actually been a real challenge if it wasn't for the amazing team of sommeliers the resort have. Previously we are used to a sommelier in just 'special' restaurants in the Maldives' resorts, however here there is one on duty for lunch and dinner in every restaurant on rotation. We met four of the team and they all amazed us with their knowledge, genuine passion and great explanations and descriptions. As New Zealand SB drinkers at home we are normally not hugely adventurous, however we tried around 15 different wines whilst at Emerald and it was great fun trusting Nash, Lee, Erica and Amit. Special shout out to this team who were intelligent, fun and really made our stay that bit more special. Across the restaurants however the team work incredibly hard to make everything seamless and always with a smile, NOTHING is ever too much trouble at Emerald and you would be hard pressed to ask for anything they can't deliver on. We were a party of 5 for a week and then 9 for the second week and we were initially worried about how we would manage to eat together etc and have the chance to try everywhere in resort, however we didn't need to worry. The team created so many memorable evenings and we were so well looked after. The Gala dinner held every Thursday is fantastic and on a par with what other resorts put on every Christmas and New Year - only at Emerald, they do it weekly! It's a magical evening on the beach with live music and the most amazing variety and standard that a buffet could meet. We enjoyed all the restaurants, however our favourite by far, mainly due to the location, sandy floors, view of the beach, sunset etc as well as the team that we found most personable, friendly, attentive, was the Beach Grill, and because of the team there, they create an amazing atmosphere that is difficult for others to replicate. A huge shout out to Amjadh the Manager there who's service was so personable and he was clearly really focused on his team and his visitors and ensuring everyone (staff and guests) had smiles on their faces. Special mention also to Madey and Simo, whilst all the waiting team in every restaurant were superb, these two were just brilliant! They made such an effort to get to know us, to anticipate our needs and we didn't lift a finger as they were always there working to hard to provide us with a great time. All three were also so amazing with our children in our group, taking note of the football team tops they were wearing, a juice or drink they liked, even producing a second course for my niece who had a tired melt down one night! We can't thank the team enough, they made our stay, and having lunch at the beach grill each day and an a la carte service, makes the stay that bit lovelier, and I would definitely recommend you book this as soon as you land in resort! The other person who ensured our family was totally looked after and who made some serious special occasions happen was KD, the F&B Director. My son joked that KD had a twin as he always seemed to be in every restaurant. A lovely gent who was clearly totally passionate about his role and so all the events that his team deliver are top notch! We were lucky enough to speak to KD throughout our stay and were so touched by his personal approach and genuine care for guest's experiences. We enjoyed the manager cocktail and canapes on the beach both weeks which was an event in itself with lighting, music and special cocktails and champagne. We had an amazing special family experience private dinner one night, celebrating my parents 70th birthdays and my mum was in tears at the set up, the service and the food and drink. It was so personal, with such high attention to detail, and again the set up and lighting etc was more special than I have ever seen in any other resort. I would definitely book this if you are there celebrating. Then there was the pool party on our last day - brilliant music and fun games, with you guessed it, decoration and food and drink! They even have popcorn and candy floss makers for the kids, it really is superb!! On our last night the team surprised us with a special table in the sand at the Beach Grill by the water, we all felt very emotional and were so grateful for the effort the team put in, and so touched at the surprise, it made the evening very special indeed, thanks to all at the Beach Grill. I've mentioned the music a couple of times, the island have a resident couple who DJ, sing and play keyboard, and they were amazing! The fantastic Yeni con Kche duo were a highlight of our stay, especially the music nights, we even changed reservations to experience the music, as they rotate around the restaurants. They are a Cuban couple who are very talented and who bring a real fusion to the island, and they also host a Maldivian and Cuban fusion night which is a must to go to as everyone young and old ends up laughing and dancing by the end of the night, a real 'feel good' experience. The spa was wonderful and we went four times, they also provide children's experiences, so my son (11) was able to enjoy a massage each week too! The sports facilities are brilliant, the best we have known, the gym is really well equipped with cardio and weights and the tennis courts, paddle tennis and football astro courts were a pleasure to use. All the equipment is there are there are also toilets and cold towels and drinks in fridges, a great set up for the fit or just families looking to have a bit of fun. The kids club is pristine!! The staff there so lovely and friendly and clearly very good with the children. Whilst my son only visited a couple of times to use the playstations, my nice went most days to make jewellery, have her hair done and play in the water park area inside. Really great facilities for children of all ages. The watersports facilities were great and they have the kayaking and paddle boarding set up really well which is free, you can also have some fun if you pay for the motorised sports, our children went out on a lie down sofa ride for 15 mins and it was definitely one of their holiday highlights. The dive team are helpful, and provide equipment for free for your holiday. We took our own masks and snorkels and were glad we did as the ones for free hire were very basic models, however we hired fins and they were great, all Cressi branded. We also paid for a trip to go to the snorkelling garden and were so glad we did. Whilst we missed the turtles others had seen, we saw hundreds of fish and it really made our Maldives' experience all the better. We also experienced the Dolphin cruise and were lucky enough to see loads of dolphins. Our children were in awe, seeing them swimming next to our boat showing off in their natural habitat was beautiful and the crew did a great job of ensuring we were all able to see and take photos etc. The only one downside if I had to find one, is that unlike in other resorts where you can snorkel straight out from your water villa, there are very few fish to see and a sea bed of washed up dead coral and rocks etc. The snorkelling itself if off one of the two main beaches by Aqua restaurant and was really good. On a clear visible day we saw all sorts of fish, rays and even a couple of sharks, and it was fun to cycle across the island to go and experience this each morning. In summary, whilst we always say we won't go back to the same island, as there are so many to visit, Emerald has changed that! With so much catered for, you would be hard pressed to find somewhere like this that really does offer it all with such a superb true five star standard of service, and such an extraordinary team! Room tip wise we were in 328 which is half way along the board walk and was perfectly positioned, with sun all day and sunset side, we loved it! Enough sea and beach view, I would avoid the villas which are on the entry to the boardwalk if you can, as they aren't quite as private. Family beach villas - the ones either side of Aqua are the best located!…

It took a long time to choose a hotel, in the end we settled on this one. We were very happy with our choice! Service above all called. The family villa is large and spacious. No complaints about cleaning. The island itself is very green, cozy. Great kids club! On the territory there is a medical staff who comes directly to the room if necessary. Sun set bar is a great place to spend a late evening with delicious cocktails. And of course Special thanks to our butler Wisham for solving all issues, even the most non-standard ones! Wisham was always in touch, responded very quickly to our requests and helped with all issues. Booked us all restaurants and excursions. Our daughter had a birthday and Wisham prepared a great surprise for us 💗 The Aqua restaurant has very tasty food and very sensitive staff! To be honest, we didn't want to leave!…

We stayed at this resort for our honeymoon and were accommodated accordingly. It was amazing. We stayed in an over-water bungalow with a private pool. The water and island were incredibly beautiful in ways that words cannot express. It was the perfect backdrop for a romantic honeymoon after the most amazing wedding. The staff was incredibly kind and courteous. Our personal advisor Wisham was eager to accommodate our wants and needs. He scheduled all our dinners prior to arrival so we wouldn’t have to worry about that. Members of the restaurant staff remembered our drink and lunch preferences. We ate at the beach club grill for lunch every day. We tried Aqua for lunch, but Beach Club Grill is far superior. We tried every option available for lunch and dinner. The only restaurant we did not enjoy the food at was Amazonico, but that was simply due to personal preference. The bed was comfortable with supple and soft sheets and pillows. The mini bar was stocked every day with fresh water, fruits, and snacks. The bathroom was large and luxurious with daily stocked boutique toiletry items and towels. It was a dream to wake up to the sun and Crystal blue waters knocking at our sliding doors. We did not utilize the golf carts and instead used the provided bikes to traverse the island. Riding the bikes throughout the island and across the wooden walkways was like a scene from a cliché romance movie. As a part of the honeymoon package, a romantic beachside dinner and dolphin tour were included. The beachside dinner was romantic by the candlelight with a great steak. The dolphin tour unfortunately only had a few pods of dolphins, but the guides said that sometimes hundreds can be seen on the tour. We had an amazing stay with Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa. We loved every minute. Our butler Wisham was the highlight of our trip he made sure all our needs were met including a special surprise for our last night and a departing gift that he hand made for us that we will cherish forever. We were very sad to leave as it was a holiday of a lifetime and we will definitely be returning as the experience was exceptional. We cannot recommend this resort enough all the staff were amazing and accommodating we were made to feel so welcomed. We cannot wait to return.

We came to Emerald as a family group, having previously stayed at both Six Senses Laamu and Constance Moofushi, both also near the top of Tripadvisor’s rankings. For us, Emerald was by some distance our least favourite of the three resorts and we thought it would be helpful to share some of the key differences for anyone torn between resorts. Before explaining what disappointed us, there were a few things we liked about Emerald: The rooms are modern and enormous. If you’d like to invite all your friends to have a party in your giant marble bathroom, this is the place to do it. The terraces are a good size, although considerably less interesting and with less shaded spaces than other resorts. As a result, we found ourselves spending much less time on our terrace here than at other resorts. The a la carte restaurants were good, though it required planning to eat in them when not open every night. We especially enjoyed Amazonica & Asiatique; we found the main buffet restaurant Aqua much less refined and a bit cruise-shippy / cattle -like, but it was easy to avoid. The wine list and drinks selection was excellent. The beach pool area on the beach club grill side of the island is very spacious and impressive. The beaches are large generally, although we didn’t love the beach in front of the buffet restaurant, finding it a bit cramped and less idyllic than other Maldivian resorts. The very large restaurant in close proximity made it feel less of an island escape. What’s less good at Emerald, and why you might want to consider another resort if these things are important to you: Bikes - the resort is big and bikes are needed to get around. Sadly whoever chose the bikes at Emerald made a bad choice - rather than easy to ride town bikes, the bikes are heavy, chunky, unwieldy and hard to ride. My mum is incredibly healthy and ran a marathon shortly after our trip, yet found the bikes intimidatingly heavy and was reliant on buggy service to get around: it is too far to walk. The baskets aren’t clean: my brand new $300 beach bag was totally ruined by oily marks acquired from placing it in the basket on my bike. These need to be replaced with something much more refined and suitable. Landscaping - with the island being new, the landscaping is much less well developed. Some rooms have views of an ugly nearby island. The “jungle” and island wildlife isn’t grown in yet, so lots of backstage areas were visible during our stay. There are lights outside all rooms at night that cannot be turned off - in an island environment where seeing the stars is a huge attraction, this light pollution is a travesty. Walkways aren’t all appropriate for bare feet - getting searingly, impossibly hot at times. This is not a resort you can forget about shoes / flip flop and for us, in the Maldives, that’s a shame. Evening entertainment: this was really disappointing and again didn’t feel appropriate to the environment. The live vocalists felt like the type of entertainment I’d expect to see at Butlins or on a cruise ship than an idyllic tropical retreat. It felt cheesy, not classy, which was a shame. Guest decorum / lack of appropriate management intervention. We watched a family allow their son to pull down his pants and urinate in the main swimming pool, in full view of at least three staff. No one said anything to the family, and the kid was allowed to continue being disruptive including splashing other guests. It was highly inappropriate behaviour and the hotel should have intervened, but didn’t. Emerald is on the face of things an impressive resort, but it is totally lacking Maldivian soul. Most of our gripes might feel small or nit-picky; but for us they set it on a level below other more refined resorts in the region. Emerald feels more manufactured and less of an authentic, romantic island getaway. You won’t have a bad holiday here, but at the same price point for us the experience was poor. You can pick a much better resort for an idyllic Maldives retreat.…

It was a wonderful family vacation! Convenient location, varied food, delicate service, amazing nature, wonderful kids club - these are just a small part of the hotel's pluses. We were very lucky to have a butler named Wisham! Throughout the holiday we felt care, participation. None of our requests went unanswered.

Really enjoyed our honeymoon at the emeralds. Such a lovely island with clear water, friendly staff and a variety of cuisines. The food and drinks were awesome. A huge thank you to Wisham who took great care of us during the stay. He was very friendly, supportive and professional. We also received a gift and several sweet gestures for our honeymoon from him.
