I'll start with the bad, the hotel is on the smaller side so in the area I was there was a balcony type wrap around with the rooms along the side and the middle part being an empty space so you can look down into the other floors. That being said at night you can hear everyone walking because the floor is made of glass!! I was on the 3 floor and around 2:20AM, yes AM, I was woken up with the people above us just walking back and forth, nonstop and to top it off one of them had heels on. Around 2:50AM I finally call the front desk and let them know of my situation, for about 20 minutes it quiet down but then they continued. This went on until 5AM!!!! I was so close to just walking up there myself and asking them if they would be going to sleep anytime soon. Now for the good, Alejandro was the receptionist that greeted us and informed us of what we needed to know, he was also kind enough to help me check in to my flight for the next day and print out my boarding passes. I can't recall the gentleman that assisted with our bags but I think his name is Hamret or something along there. But he was also very nice and informative, seemed a bit nervous or shy but he was kind enough to also show us where the business center was as well as their mini in home theatre!!!! I wish we could have used it, hopefully next time!! We went up to Oliva for dinner and breakfast and both times were a hit!! We had Christian the first night and he was so attentive, so polite and ready to SERVE! He was so welcoming and warm, he made our dinner relaxing and comfortable. In the morning for dinner we had Abram and he was also very polite and attentive, informative with the breakfast menu and had an answer for any question we had. We were so sad to leave but are looking forward to our next stay, I'll just make sure to ask for the top floor and earplugs!! HEHEHE…
Very nice boutique hotel. Staff was amazing, rooms were extremely nice, clean and spacious. Centrally located in the Centro Historical part of CDMX. I have no problem recommending Umbral and absolutely would stay there again.
This hotel is beautiful, chic, modern and industrial. However, if you book a suite, be mindful of the street noise. Luckily, the staff provided us with ear plugs and we were able to sleep through the night. Staff is amazing, location is good.
this was the first stay I had at a Hilton Hotel... and I think it's going to be the last. From day one, I had issues with my room. We checked in around 1:40 AM, and it seemed that the guests above my room were moving several things from the room and make the most noise possible. We were unable to have a good sleep the two days we stayed at the hotel. I never had an upgrade or something to make it right, just an apology from the hotel staff. When I went to eat something (around 8PM) the food and drinks took very long to be ready. The second day, after having a long day outside and thinking my room was going to be clean when we arrive, this was not the case. We're supposed to inform the hotel we wanted to have it clean, but we're never informed. The prices were very high and the service we received was orrible. The last day we went for breakfast so that I could fly with my stomach full but that was the worst idea I had. I got sick after I finished eating. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone and I'm very disappointed as a GOLD member.…
I love enjoying boutique hotels in new cities that I travel to and being a hiltons gold member, I saw some good reviews on umbral so we decided to try it for 2 nights. Honestly it was a terrible experience. Although the rooms were tidy and clean and there was a dark mysterious ambience throughout the hotel, which made it seem great as we walked in. However these rooms have no temperature regulation and our thermometer was broken! It was 26 degrees in our room overnight and despite the many calls we made they were unable to fix it. They finally ended up giving us another room at 4am because we were just miserable. However, in the morning around 10am we received a phone call to our room saying our original room AC was fixed and we need to move back. No sympathy, no apologies.. we were shocked. We get back to our original room and we weren’t able to sleep because the AC wasn’t fixed! Don’t know how we made it through this stay, but we definitely don’t recommend staying here in the summer time. They did not offer any compensation or hotel credit or discount despite our horrible experience and did not show any remorse, the customer service at this hotel is poor and should be taken into consideration When booking here. There is a female and male (eric) working at reception, and they did not seem to care one bit. Very disappointed in Umbral. Ps. The location is great in center city, but not worth the hassle at this establishment. …
The minute you walk in, you’ll notice the very elegantly furnished and decorated boutique hotel. It’s very classy with dedicated, professional staff who goes beyond your expectations. The restaurant on the top floor is very classy with an extensive liquor collection at the bar and the food is outstanding. Order the bone marrow. The shrimp taco is yummy from the restaurant that serves breakfast on the same floor. I can’t say enough of the staff there. I love the Mexican hospitality. They surely know how to please. The hotel doesn’t provide robes and slippers in the room but I’m sure they’ll give you if you request it. We were here two nights and we loved the attention they gave us. The tv in the room had the golf channel so it was great! We also had PCR tested. A person from MetLife came. $50 each. Just reserve the testing at the reception. Amazing stay!!…
Two stars are for the interesting design and attentive staff. There are a couple major infrastructure flaws of this hotel: 1. Hot water is not stable. During 20 seconds, the water temperature can fluctuate by 20 degrees 2. Sound isolation is very bad. If your neighbor is talking, don't even think about sleeping 3. AC is weak. The room stays hot for a long time even after you set to maximum strength 4. Electricity is not stable. In our last night of stay, it seems like the whole electric panel was reset twice at 1am. When it reset, it would also automically turn all the lights on at 1am. Go figure. Again good staff and design; but if you want a good night sleep? I cant emphasize how fast you should run away
The service from hotel staff was mediocre. Our room wasn’t ready by check-in time and we were not offered any hospitality for the inconvenience. We were again unable to get into our room for over 4 hours in the middle of our stay because they had an electrical fire. We again didn’t receive any hospitality or apology from the staff. The room and hotel are very well designed, but our room AC did not work and it was warm at night which was not comfortable for sleeping. The AC was not fixed during the stay and the hotel was booked so we could not get moved to another room. We again were not offered any hospitality - this seems to be a theme at this hotel. I have received much better service from staff at other 3 and 4 star hotels which is why I don’t believe this is a 5 star accommodation.…
Rooftop pool area , restaurants , and staff was all great. I will not come back to his hotel for 2 reasons 1. TVs would not allow any of the dubbed channels to be turned to English. Not even subtitles. Couldn’t even connect my Roku stick and or Amazon fire sitck to WiFi because of the hotel WiFi sign in requirement Summary, all channels are in Spanish. No English channels. No way to change audio or bring up subtitles. TVs are old 2. Rooms are beautiful. Comfy beds, but very dark and sad inside. Windows are frosted and don’t open. Claustrophobic. No natural light
The good: great staff, visually appealing and interesting, good (paid) breakfast with quality ingredients, great juices, smoothies, nice sized room with good amenities. The investors who converted this to a hotel from an old office space spent a lot of money and did just about everything right. Fatal flaw 1. Noise. The floors in all the hallways are glass and marble. They make noise. They echo noise. All doors face the walkways to an echo chamber open atrium. Communal noise to all floors including the restaurant. “Door” is a bit of a misnomer here, more accurately the rooms have visual privacy screens. The “doors” are old fashioned thin wood doors without seals. The upper half of the door is fogged glass. Between the crack in the door one can see light from the hallway, but critically the noise comes in as if there was nothing more than a Japanese paper screen. At one point a hotel employee was outside my room speaking very quietly to someone. I could hear everything as if she was next to me. Zero sound privacy - in either direction. On a honeymoon? Every guest in every room on every floor will share in the sounds of your every delight. (Idea, this hotel might appeal to a special niche exhibitionist clientele.) In case of a fire would the « doors » slow fire or smoke? I highly doubt it. Fatal flaw 2: No natural light. I counted about 15 rooms per floor. Only 3 of those facing the street had outside windows. The other 12 rooms, mine included, had no outside window - no natural light. Natural light is a big deal when adjusting to a time changes. Being in a cave is the worst case for me. All of the windows to the atrium were fogged so there was effectively no visual opening, just the above mentioned noise opening.…
