I wasn’t sure what to expect when I booked this hotel, but it exceeded my expectations. The hotel staff was very attentive, the service was excellent, and the rooftop pool was the cherry on top. The rooms are super cool, and the architecture was super cool. I highly recommend this centrally located hotel.
Can’t say enough about this boutique hotel in the center of Mexico City. The property is totally unique with 17 quaint guest rooms and a well-trained staff that fully understands hospitality. From the start, it was very clear that the front desk manager, Jesús Chavez, was going to do everything possible to make our stay exceptional. He and his staff made sure that our entire visit was filled with satisfaction and enjoyment. The property is unique, beautiful and truly memorable. The breakfast lounge has many options and the rooftop restaurant is perfect for lighter meals and drinks. There are also two independent restaurants on the property that serve amazing food. A big plus is the location of the hotel which is within walking distance to parks, museums, shopping and endless dining options. Most importantly, the entire staff was outstanding and very eager to provide professional service throughout our entire stay.…
We stayed here recently for a night on a Hyatt free night certificate. It is quite a place, alright. It is a very small hotel, only 17 rooms. It is also hundreds of years old, built out of brick. It has a very trendy restaurant in its central courtyard, but it is not the hotel's restaurant, meaning it does not cater (in terms of reservations) to hotel guests. Many of its rooms are "the Queen", like ours. Those rooms are all interior rooms. They have massive, 30-foot ceilings. But no windows, except the windows found on the steel doors to the room. Unfortunately, the windows, i.e., the doors, open onto a walkway between the rooms. So there is either no light or no privacy, take your pick. Me, I like having both. The bathroom has a rainfall shower, definitely of novel construction. If I could have coaxed some hot water into the room, I might have tried it out. Our Queen also suffered from having only a single nightstand, despite my wife and I both wearing glasses. We stayed in a number of hotels on our recent two-week trip to Mexico, some expensive, some not. ALL of them, EXCEPT the "Downtown", gave out copious quantities of bottled water. Ask for water here and you eventually get a pitcher of it, with ice. Uh, I prefer the bottled water but not the one that came for sale in the room. The room also came with a large section of alcohol, including a full fifth (!) of tequila available for purchase. Breakfast was good. The location was extremely central. But the room requires you make more exceptions than I care to make.…
Dark, dingy, stinking drains and that just the bedroom. Add haughty service, where they expect a tip to bring you tea with the breakfast you paid for. Our room (17) had no windows, so it was cell like. It was so depressing staying here. If you open ended your door to let in some light, you had zero privacy. There is a roof top pool, with a few lounges, and given they let people in who bought lunch or a drink, it was rarely possible to get a space by the pool. It said it was a no smoking area, it this was ignored by everyone who smoked. Very poorly run hotel with shocking service.
Perfect location - Uber chic designer boutique hotel. We stayed as a couple and loved the vibe of the place in a beautiful old building with the separate but very cool Azul Historico Mexican restaurant on the ground floor. Best of all though was the service. I left my iPad behind and as was returning to CDMX briefly for connecting flight home, the hotel reception staff very kindly came out to the airport to get me back my iPad! Thanks for the beyond the normal service.
I stayed at this place before and it was near perfect. The breakfast was superb, the pool although ice cold was lovely and the cocktails were amazing along with the food. However this time round, I was bombarded with a request to tip at the free breakfast. To add insult to injury the waitress (she knows who she is) decided to enter her own amount of tip because I left the receipt empty. I only found out at the end of my stay at check out. Throughout the whole stay she requested a tip at breakfast and when i refused, she gave me the “death stare”. This tipping procedure must have been implemented in 2021 because in 2020 there were not this hard sell with the card machine to add a tip in any of the resorts I visited. I don’t object to tipping but they can’t expect a tip on a free breakfast or even when the service is bad. Sadly the room I was in was not fit for purpose. The lighting was extremely poor, even worse than the previous year. To make matters worse, non guests of the hotel are not allowed in the pool area EVEN if a guest invites someone else to have a drink at the pool area. It’s an unusual rule considering they are also paying customers. Sadly I won’t be returning. The food and drink are amazing but the service and rooms are a bit of a let down.…
We stayed for 3 nights here. Room overlooked an interior courtyard with a retractable roof which was closed at night so gloomy when we arrive as no other external windows. However, when roof was opened in the morning it was all more attractive. Excellent breakfast and lovely roof top terrace and swimming pool that was uncrowded. Nice roof top bar also although Mexican predilection for loud thumping music was slightly overwhelming at times. Location is excellent- very central and good if expensive restaurant in a charming courtyard- very COVID friendly!
I have a lot mixed feelings as I'm writing this review because I wasn't sure if I was the problem or the hotel was. This was our first trip to Mexico City and I had been looking forward to it for many many months since my original plan was cancelled due to Covid. This trip was however, very disappointing. In fact, restless! Given this was our first international trip since the pandemic started, I did a lot of research prior to the trip. I wanna make sure our trip is safe and fun but not touristy. Whenever I travel to a new place, I like simply walking across different neighborhoods to just absorb the local vibe (and no google maps please). After doing my research, I chose Downtown hotel, given its centralized location and unique interior. So why was my trip restless? By reading my review title, you might have guessed. The noise and the smell. Our room is one of the rooms facing the central courtyard. In the picture, the courtyard looks beautiful and it is also beautiful in person ... what you would not have known from the picture is that there's a restaurant right beneath those trees. The restaurant, Azul, is a great place to dine. But oh boy, the noise from the restaurant doesn't rest till close to midnight because staff has to do lots of cleaning post operating hours. They sometimes blast music to boost moral or just to keep the employee awake as they clean. On top of that, there is a bar on the rooftop. Sometimes I don't even know where the music and noise is coming from, the top or the bottom. And the sewage smell ... I don't know where it comes from but google tells me sewage smell is bad during dry season in Mexico City apparently. Half way through our stay (we were here for 5 nights), we actually thought about moving to a different hotel... that just tells you how intolerable the noise and smell were. But we stayed because the restaurant actually closed on Xmas Eve, so no noise on the day itself. Then we just had another night to go, so we didn't switch hotel at the end. But...this isn't exactly how I imagined a vacation would be. Again, there are many wonderful reviews about this hotel. Maybe it's just not the right vibe for me. If you don't mind the noise and the smell, maybe it's still worth a shot. There are many other rooms in this hotel which I assume don't face the courtyard, maybe it's still worth a shot if you're looking for a quaint place to stay. It is just not for me.…
Stayed here as we are Hyatt members before a flight the next day. First thing was the sink was plugged. Didn't bother to complain as it was only one night. There was no free bottled water. This is the first hotel I've ever stayed in in Mexico that hasn't provided water, as you cannot drink the tap water. I live in Mexico and have been to many hotels. Also disappointing is no coffee maker in the room. This hotel is not cheap, wouldn't stay here again.
We recently stayed at Downtown and chose it because of its unique architecture and cool interior design plus its prime location in the historical district - meaning we could walk everywhere. It didn't disappoint! The staff were amazing, especially Alan and Ulysses. Breakfast was delicious. Room was clean and comfortable. Only downside was not having a coffee machine in our room as we were jet-lagged and woke up at weird times. A fantastic hotel with a really great boutique feel. Highly recommended.
