I've stayed here many times over the last six years, often bringing large groups with me. In the past, I've been highly satisfied. Though, on my last trip, just two weeks ago, I was robbed of a large some of money during one of my trips into the city. There were only two individuals that entered my room outside of myself, a housekeeper and an unscheduled maintenance worker. While I filed a report at the local police station (a whole day wasted), very little was done to assist me from the hotel management. If you are not from Mexico, beware. You are being targeted by the employees.
No in-room wifi, though if you’re lucky you’ll get the public wifi till your room. Hassle free hotel, very good staff. Clean and decent rooms, special thanks to Ricardo who is working 24/7 he deserves a raise and a promotion!
Let me start of by saying that HOTEL MX Reforma is a 5/5 hotel and my experience at Congreso should not hinder the HOTEL MX line as not all compare. Because of Hotel MX Reforma being sold out and me needing one more night I contacted Oscar the digital tour guide (more on him in my MX Reforma review) and explained my situation. Oscar said their Congreso hotel has a very cheap rate and would be an option as I only needed a place to sleep for a couple hours. Oscar was great and helped me with reservations because it was not accepting my discount code. I finally made the reservation for 510 pesos on an upgraded remodeled room which normally runs 600 pesos (500 pesos for non-remodeled rooms). When I arrived the receptionist Ricardo asked If I had a reservation and asked If I wanted to pay for the room with the same card that I had made the reservation with. Ricardo asked me for a copy of my driver's license, and insisted on an identification for my fiance. I have never been asked to provide an ID for another guest, and they normally just ask for the name (Hotel MX Reforma just asked for second guests name and no ID). I told him we did not have one because the consulate had taken her passport for processing. He said something along the lines of him needing an ID from her to check us in. I showed him a picture of her passport on my Iphone and he made me send it to his WhatsApp which I found totally weird and out of place. THIS IS REALLY WHERE I WAS NOT HAPPY. Ricardo asked me If I had the physical card that I had made the online reservation with. I said yes and handed it to him. After taking my card Ricardo then handed me the hotel contract and asked for my signature. That is when I noticed that the listed price for the room was more than what I had made the reservation for online. I told Ricardo that the price was not correct and he tells me "ooooooooh well I already charged your card", and I could see him pulling my card out of the terminal. He charged my credit card before me signing and agreeing with the contract!!!! He said that the computer showed a different price for the reservation and that there was no manager to speak with. I told him I would be complaining and he handed me my room key. Quick note on the room. I got the remodeled basic room. The rooms are quite big however the bed was not comfortable at all. I just got some weird vibes from the hallway and the room (nothing wrong just me and my fiance getting some weird sketchy vibes). Also the toilet was broken and the water just kept running thus flushing and flushing and flushing the toilet ALLL NIGHT LONG. The next morning when I go check out my Uber is waiting and the receptionist tells me that there has been a problem. A different receptionist of course says that the previous receptionist (Ricardo) had charged my credit card twice!!!!! I was already late for my flight, and he says I have to wait for it to be 8am (It was 4am) for the manager to come in and speak with me about issuing a refund... I left and texted Oscar about it. Oscar again being the Hero he is helped me and connected me with the manager via WhatsApp. The manger later apologized and issued me a refund for the difference in my online reservation and for the extra charge. I still haven't received it but at least I voiced my concerns. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here period. The area itself is high crime and even the Uber driver said he recommends we lock ourselves in the room and not even walk outside. Side note that just adds to this horrible experience we had, We ordered Burker King from Uber eats and we both got sick. We were so tired that we ate half the chicken burger and didn't realize the chicken was LITERALLY RAW. Like slimy clear see-through chicken texture kinda raw, you know. If you can just stay another night at MX Reforma or I had rather slept at the airport honestly.... Nothing compared to my excellent memorable experience at Hotel MX Reforma…
Great hotel and staff. Receptionists and bellmen were Great. They were really helpful! Cristien was an excellent Receptinist. He looked well after me and my family after an exhausting trip. Dios le bendiga Cristien!
