My wife and I have been coming to Royal Sands for the last 5 years. The resort has great customer service, exceed my expectation. very Friendly staff!! Special shout out to Fehr, Fernando & Samuel at La Veranda, always sat at their tables, best service. We always sat at the beach phase 2 side. The best beach servers Damian, Enrique & Arturo made our vacation great! A special thank you to Antonio who cleans around the palapas at Phase 2, he always has a smile and I nicked named him Smiley. We can't wait to return next year. I highly recommend this resort.

Hotel's Favourite
We've been coming to The Royal Sands for years using the all-inclusive package. The rooms are nice and all have balconies with views of the ocean. The place is always clean, the staff courteous and solicitous. The food at La Veranda buffet is very good and there are always many choices. A shout out to Javier Gomez for his special efforts to make us feel welcome. This year however there were a couple of issues that should be mentioned. First, is the sargassum problem on the beach. This issue has been well publicized and the Mexican government has tried various solutions but so far to no avail. This prickly, tangled seaweed is getting worse every year and this year it got so bad some days that no one could go in the ocean. It comes in waves so thick that it turns the turquoise waters dark greenish/black and is very unpleasant. The hotel had a machine rake sand over the seaweed that was deposited on the beach, so it would decompose, which is a good idea. But the machine can't go on the soft sand of the tidal zone, and each day at high tide, the seaweed in this zone was washed back into the ocean, to be redeposited the next tidal cycle. One idea the hotel should try is having some workers rake the sargassum during low tide, out of the tidal zone, so it doesn't wash back into the ocean. This would help a little. However, until the government finds a way to keep this stuff from reaching the shore, the great Cancun beach will become unusable more and more days. The second issue involves the all-inclusive dining options. One of the enticements of the all-inclusive package is the choice of several restaurants besides the La Veranda buffet. All-inclusive guests can call at 8 AM to reserve a spot at Conquistador, Captains Cove, Hacienda Sisal, and others, if they don't like a particular theme night at La Veranda. In prior years, including at full capacity before Covid, I'd call at 8 AM sharp, get an agent immediately, and reserve any restaurant I wanted. This year, I called at 8 AM and was put on hold for ten minutes, then told everything was booked. This happened day after day. I even tried going to the concierge at 8 AM to see if they had any better luck but they were put on hold too, then told everything was booked. I asked two concierges what was going on and they told me that Royal Resorts had a new rewards points program only for members, which allowed them to book up all the restaurants in advance, leaving nothing for the all-inclusive guests. If Royal Resorts wants to implement such a program, they are certainly within their rights to do so, especially since their time share members are their first priority. But they should let the all-inclusive guests know in advance that they will most likely be dining at La Veranda buffet every night, so as to avoid the frustration of not getting the promised dining choices. Hopefully by our next visit, these issues will be addressed.

Response from Alberto Vicente Martinez, Owner at The Royal Sands All Suites Resort & Spa
Responded 24 Aug 2022
Dear Andrew H, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at The Royal Sands. Sargassum arrivals are a natural occurrence, and during the past few years, we've seen unusual amounts of these algae coming ashore, which has become quite an operational challenge. We strive to clean in the early morning without affecting our guests, and we even clean twice a day to keep the beach in optimal conditions. While seaweed is a regular visitor, we cannot predict the date and time of its arrival. Royal Resorts is committed to providing our guests with a great experience, and we’ll continue working to maintain the beach as clean as possible. We sincerely apologize if you couldn't reserve with day in advance a spot at one of our restaurants. Our concierge team works hard to find availability for our non-member guests, but regretfully, it is not always possible to find a spot on the day and time desired by the guest. We regret that you felt this way about our concierge service and rest assured we have shared your comments with our Guest Relations Manager to find ways to improve this process for the benefit of our non-member guests. We will continue working to deliver a better experience on your next visit. We hope we have the chance to welcome you back soon. Warm regards.

My gf's and I had heard great things about the resort, but after reviewing reviews one more time before leaving, we became reluctant. Our stay ended up being great! The food is some of the best food I've had in Mexico (I've stayed at some of the top resorts there - Le Blanc, Live Aqua etc), the beach was lovely and seating was easy to find. Our room was comfy and clean (we had 2 connected that had a kitchen for the 5 of us) 24 hour room service, pool was nice. We found having to shuttle to the other 2 sister resorts was a little bit of a pain to eat, but eventually we figured out the bus system and it was much easier than arriving 20 min before the shuttle for dinner. Moses on the beach was amazing with serving us drinks quickly, a couple of other staff on the beach were slow and we would wait 20-30 min between but at least there was service on the beach. Not too many people selling things on the beach so that was nice since sometimes in Mexico you get harassed the whole time you sit there. They did make us change rooms on Saturday in the middle of the trip due to it being a time share so that was kindof a pain packing all of our bachelorette decor & bday decor up, but the staff handled all of our bag switches while we were eating. Overall very impressed and would recommend.

I purchased a 5 day 4 night all inclusive package to the Royal UNO, but the Royal UNO was not able to accommodate me until August 2023. So the Royal Sands, where I vacation for. 2 weeks every January took our booking. I was very happy to return to my favorite resorts in Cancun. Wish I had the ability to stay longer but I get to return in January. I am very lucky.

We just returned yesterday from a weeklong family vacation at the Royal Sands. Like many others, I spent the weeks leading up to our trip reviewing every new post here on the resort – hoping that there wasn’t any alarming reviews that would make me want to cancel the trip. My wife and I are 50 and my son is 14. Our friends also booked for the same time as us. They are a bit younger with a 14 and 11 year old. All of us have traveled fairly extensively both domestically and internationally. I would say that while we are not snobbish about hotels, we can recognize and appreciate a good experience. To start, the hotel is very clean, bordering on obsessive, which was wonderful. The staff were friendly and did their best to take good care of the guests. We booked a 2 bed/2 bath beachfront which was a stones throw from the ocean. The view was remarkable to say the least. I actually woke up a few nights to the ocean crashing against the beach which is pretty great. The room was huge and basically two adjoining rooms (one with a nicely appointed kitchen). The refrigerators were stocked daily with water and soda. We went to the onsite market and got some additional goodies. The market has about everything you might need plus some – it’s a bit pricey but I have seen far worse at domestic hotels. The food was generally good with a standard buffet layout for the main restaurant with a good selection of offering. There were a few times we had to wait to be seated but for us it wasn’t more than 15 minutes when it happened. There are two pools. The main one is huge with two swim up bars. There is an upcharge for higher end liquor or beer but nothing too bad. I see people getting heated over the surcharges on certain food and drinks but they need to understand that to keep pricing affordable, a surcharge is needed or some folks will absolutely abuse the system and prices go up for everyone. I had a few drinks with the higher end alcohol but the basic ones are fine. If you are a picky drinker – I suggest you get bottles at the duty free store in the airport and make yourself a yeti drink (oh I suggest you bring a yeti cup or similar..). I did that too and was very happy. We tried out the Royal Cancun (sister hotel) for the day on one of the free shuttles – its cute but not even close to the quality of the Royal Sands. The people I spoke to seemed to like the Royal Cancun based on nostalgia. It was ok (think 70's family resort) but we wanted to be back at the Royal Sand almost immediately. The beach at the Royal Sands was beautiful and well maintained. When we went, the sargassum (seaweed) was hardly there. Just know that June to October is the sargassum season all over Cancun and the FL gulf beaches too. We were lucky and didn’t see much of it. The beach is a few feet from the hotel unlike the long hikes we usually have at other beach resorts. I will agree that having to give your room key every time you get anything is a bit annoying – especially when you forget it or need to wait to get it back. Not a huge deal but there is room for improvement. Also, it can get a bit sporty trying to find a chair by the pool but that’s every resort. Overall, the place is beautiful, the people are kind and the food is decent enough. It’s not the Ritz and no one will be waiting for you with a cold towel and tropical drink at check-in (you will also pay a fraction of the cost of the Ritz for a great experience). You won’t have constant entertainment like a cruise ship (thankfully for me) but there is enough fun things to keep you smiling. In conclusion, you may see some people giving very low reviews, I don’t agree based on our experience. Perhaps they had a situation come up or they are just accustomed to a Ritz like resort experiences and felt slighted. I would venture to say that most reasonable people would find a stay at the Royal Sands to be a very good/great experience at a very reasonable price.

The beach and pool were nice. If you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t it. Bahia Sian Kaan, Paradisus Esmeralda, Grand Fiesta Americana are much better options and worth spending the extra $. The food wasn’t good and the restaurant options are sparse.

The Royal Sands is a cut above the rest. It is the cleanest hotel in Cancun! The rooms are cleaned daily and staff is friendly and helpful. Food is great! Location is convenient and safe. The rooms have full kitchens and plenty of space with great spacious balconies. Lots of swimming options with beach and pools. The spa is amazing!! It is the best spa I have ever used. Worth every penny! It is convenient to stores and La Isla Mall as well as grocery shopping if you want to do your own cooking. It works for family vacations or friends and couples. You have access to other Royal locations with free shuttle service to the Royal Cancun. So you can spend a day there if you like or eat at their restaurants. Lots of options.
