The Royal Sands All Suites Resort & Spa earns high marks for its spotless environment and exceptional service, with guests consistently lauding the staff's friendliness and professionalism. While the ocean views from every room are appreciated, some guests find the timeshare-related room switches and check-in process frustrating. Despite its prime location and relaxing atmosphere, the value of the all-inclusive packages is sometimes questioned due to hidden charges. Amenities are well-received, yet there is a call for some service enhancements and modern updates.

This was our 16th or 17th year at the Royal Sands for winter break and as always we had a great time. The weather was magnificent, we spent time with friends that we actually met at the resort in the early 2000's and the staff is wonderful. A big thanks to to Robert Vazquez at Phase 2, Tomas our server on the beach and Reynalda who makes our villa seem like home.

My only complaint (which I make every year), is that I wish we could reserve a palapa without getting up at 530 am to put our flags out! We would be willing to pay for the convenience -- We have a suggestion! If the owner is not out after 9 am security can remove the towels. Simple as that. Royal Resorts should also explain to the the all-inclusive guests about beach etiquette, i.e., blocking views, encroaching palapas, taking others' chaises without permission. We would ask that the owners, who invested in the property get priority over the all inclusive guests, especially during Christmas Week.

Dear Rbb0612, Thank you for taking the time to post about The Royal Sands. We love hearing from our members and their vacation experiences and we’re happy to see that you have been enjoying overall great stays with us for almost 20 years. We are sorry to learn your experience has not been the best because of the pool chair situation. We do have a new policy about this that we believe will hopefully improve your experience. We'll make sure that our security department is enforcing it correctly. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you next year at your home away from home. Warm Regards.

I look forward to coming every year over Christmas and New Year. The weather is consistent, sunny: be careful and have your 50spf. The surf is relatively gentle and many body surf and even do some distance swimming parallel to the shore. There is a Marina on the lagoon side, and Juan takes great care of me and my family when we go sailing on the Sunfish fleet. A shoutout also to Luis Ulin at the sports desk who I have known for over 20 years from another Royal location. So great to see the same faces every year. The food is very good, both at the resort and a walk, bus or taxi ride to other excellent restaurants. The Sands water is purified on site and I've never been sick from it. I go to the pool/ocean daily. Walk around the hotel zone. The bus is only 12 pesos (70 cents) if you want a change of scenery. I love it, and look forward to 25 more years.

We are frequent visitors to the Royal Resorts, but have not been back at the Royal Sands for several years. We were happy to return to this superior resort. The Royal Resorts are always clean and exceptionally well maintained. They have increased their sanitization and safety procedures for the current pandemic. The views are amazing and the pools spectacular. As always, what sets the Royal Resorts apart from others is the service. Filipe and Damian at the pool were quick with service, friendly, and always happy to see us each day. In addition to the regular pool menu, on several days the Sands does additional items made pools side (tacos, grilled chicken, ceviche). The other restaurants on property also had good food and top notch service.

The only complication was check in which seems to be a common issue at the Royals. The process takes an extremely long time and the front desk staff is not as friendly as the rest of the staff. We booked 8 nights and had to move rooms on Saturday. Although I understand when the resort is full this may be necessary, but with 30% occupancy we should have been able to stay in the same room for 8 nights.

This is my second trip to the Royal Sands, and it has become my favorite property in Cancun. The facility is great. The suite is large and comfortable. The food is good. The service is great. It has a clean, immaculate beach and two large pool areas. The large main pool is the more active of the two, while the smaller pool area is great for a quieter day. The property is extremely well maintained. I was surprised to learn that the hotel is 20 years old because it looks almost brand new everywhere you look.

The maids were very attentive to detail. We came up to the room once while she was cleaning and she had pulled out the couch, rolled up the rug, and was sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing everywhere. We could see maids cleaning every spindle on the balconies one at a time from the pool. The attention to detail here is great.

Breakfast is great, and lunch at the pool is very good. In the evening the buffet can be less than amazing, but there are other choices. We particularly like the Sisal and highly recommend their freshly prepared guacamole that they mix up right at your table.

There are more luxurious properties in Cancun. I have stayed at some and I do love them. But they have begun to price themselves out of the market when there are far more reasonable choices that exceed your expectations and give you a far better overall value.

This is a family friendly resort, but my wife and I are in our 60's and children have not been an issue for us on either of our trips.

Royal Sands is my new favorite resort in Cancun. We will be back!

My wife and I just returned from a week at the Royal Sands. We've been going for years, but recently became owners. Our experience was off the charts once again! We felt extremely safe and the management and staff was over the top in terms of cleaning, disinfecting, and overall safety. They literally had someone walking around spraying handrails, knobs, tables, chairs, etc. We took private transportation to/from the airport with Thomas Moore (The Royals exclusive transportion company) at a reasonable price. our driver was Antelmo, who was conversational and safe. They disinfected guests footwear coming into the restaurant and in some Royal restaurants. All staff wore masks at all times inside and outside. Servers pool side and on the beach had hand sanitizer for us before/after serving us as well as contactless menus (QR codes). Moises, Gabriel, Roberto were excellent. They truly get to know you. A special shout out to Antonio who every day saw us coming down to the beach, cleaned and disinfected our lawn chair/table/chair out by the palapas.

Dinner's at Hacienda Sisal, Captain's Cove and El Conquistador were fantastic. As owners, we opted for REFINE, which was a good value. Gabriela at Hacienda Sisal was great. We were a bit disappointed by La Trattoria this year. The air conditioning was not working which made it uncomfortable and the while my wife and I got exactly the same dish (chicken parm), one was terrific and the other one was overcooked and hard. It happens.

Overall, the trip was 99.9% perfect at what we believe is the best resort in Cancun. We're going back in a month! You can't go wrong with the Royal Sands.

Upon arrival at the airport and meeting Thomas Moore spraying my luggage and offering hand sanitizer I was put at ease. However, when arriving at the Royal Sands and being directed to more hand sanitizer as well as a solution inside a mat you stepped into. Then walking into the lobby a machine that took your temperature. We brought masks with us. As we entered the room there was a certificate indicating the room was sprayed with sanitizer. In addition both rooms had a welcome box of masks, sanitizer gel bottles and wipes. All staff are wearing masks at all times. Guest must wear masks in public places.
We did the All Inclusive during our stay. Every server was outgoing. The food was magnificent. Overall one of my best vacations at the Royal Sands. I am so happy to call this my MX home. I consider the entire staff part of my extended family. If you are looking for a family resort that you can be as busy or relaxed as you want, this is the place. At 30% capacity per MX law at this time you are making a mistake if you scratch this location if your list due to COVID. I’m am glad we came.

Family of 4 (two adults and two kids under 10) we stayed Thanksgiving week. Everything was amazing from check in to check out. Rooms, restaurants, pools everything was clean. All of the staff are following social distancing and constantly disinfecting areas. I would really like to say thank you to Eduardo Pacheco and Damian by the pool the treated us great, always attentive to all of our needs. They went above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be returning soon.

We were on the fence about this trip due to COVID-19. We are very glad that we made this trip. To start with, as soon as we get to the resort, your luggage from the airport is sprayed and disinfected. There is a mat for you to stand on to disinfect your shoes. There is a temperature station for checking your temp (voluntary unlike the airport) There is hand sanitizer everywhere. All of the staff have masks on and face shields. Now to the resort. The pools are excellent as are the staff. I want to give a special shout out the Samuel at La Veranda, his service was excellent. Enrique was always quick to bring your food or drinks at the pool. Jose was great at the pool bar. The only downside which is not on the resort was the Seaweed was definitely there on this past trip. It did not prevent you from using the beach. The concierge was good with making reservations and did not hound you too badly with the timeshare pitch. Overall very happy with our vacation. If you get the all inclusive, Hacienda Sisal, Captains Cove and El Conquistador are all included (unless you get lobster or fancy steak then it is a slight up charge)

We just arrived today and I’ve already been looking at options to leave. I have traveled to Cancun many times and have never stayed at a resort this poorly run. The beach is lovely, the view from our room is amazing, and the food at the pool bar is very good. That is where the positives end. This resort caters to their timeshare owners, not their all- inclusive guests. Wearing a plastic wristband is not enough to show that you have the all- inclusive package. You have to hand over your room key at every restaurant and it takes forever to get it back when you are done eating. There is no option for a couple traveling together to have a room with a queen or king bed. Only two doubles unless you want to upgrade to a two room suite. No hot tub unless you want to pay extra for the spa. No nightly entertainment or lobby bar options. Most restaurants require shuttle transportation to get to. The sushi restaurant on-site is a joke. Service was incredibly slow and they told us we were only allowed to order three rolls off the menu. When they arrived, I was glad they had cut us off as the rice was very hard and dry. I have had better sushi rolls from my local grocery store. We ordered potato nachos from the sports bar and got cold french frys with a can of Hormel chili on top (see pic). Much of the liquor at the bars is not included. We have not been able to get a consistent answer from anyone on what is or is not included. The gentleman at the lobby desk that we spoke with told us that they don’t have a list of what is included, only the bar knows. Seriously?!?!? Stay somewhere else! The Occidental Costa Cancun is far superior for a lower price.

We loved our stay here! The beach here was phenomenal and it wasn’t at all crowded, sometimes we even had beach and pool all to ourselves.
The service was amazing! Everyone was very friendly, specific shoutout to our bellboy Fabian who went above and beyond to help us during checkout. The food was fantastic, our favorite restaurant included in our all inclusive package was the Hacienda Sisal.
They did a great job keeping us safe during COVID. Everyone had masks indoors and they were constantly sanitizing and cleaning.
Overall, we loved our stay! However, I think they should update the hotel rooms- they have great views of the ocean and they’re comfortable, but they’re nothing fancy. They seem like they’re a little bit on the older side. We spent most of our time at the beach so it was fine for us.
Also, the drinks at the indoor restaurants and bars were great, but in the outdoor /pool bars they really skimp on the alcohol they put in the cocktails- very watered down.

Answer from Mary B
Just returned home. The coffee shop is NOT included in the AI. Housekeeping provided only 1 package of coffee (6-8 cups) per day, so if you’re traveling with a group, I’d suggest asking for more. We had to ask every day. We also had to ask every day for extra bottled water as there were 5 of us in the Villa. Food options are average at best. Still missing two restaurants— El Conquistador and Captain’s Cove with no replacements. Choices are still the Veranda which serves fair buffets, the Bistro which was better than average, but not great, Hacienda Sisal (still stable) and the sushi restaurant that unfortunately doesn’t open until 3 and also isn’t included in room service. At $135 a day for AI, we expected more. Is it a deal breaker? Probably not, but I wouldn’t want to vacation there without knowing this in advance. Safely put, we don’t go there for the food, unfortunately, because it would greatly enhance our stay.
