We have been going to the GR for 15 years in a row, sometimes twice a year. We have gotten to know the staff pretty well. We love the resort, the people, and we are always treated like we were the last two people on earth. The one downside is the Steak options, unless you are ordering the filet, skip the steak options. Very tough and grisly. overall we are already planning our next trip back

When we go to Mexico we always stay at the GR Solaris. We go there because of the employees that always make our visit fun and make us feel so welcome. I would like to say thank you to the entertainment staff, Fernando, Ruben, Orpha, Sergio, Jerry and Israel who always make our days full of fun. To Odely and Lupita for always making sure we had drinks, Obilia who makes the best breakfast every morning, Aedere pool bartender for making the best drinks always with a smile and Vermon who took such good care of us making us feel so special. Thank you all for another memorable vacation. Till next year. ❤️

Besides the beautiful weather and sandy beaches, the staff at this resort are the reasons we keep coming back. We usually visit once a year, but due to Covid we went 18 months before arriving and then went twice in 2 months. After all this time, Naranjo, otherwise known as "Mr Orange" still remembered me and we were greeted with the usual smile and "Welcome my family". He has been my waiter for quite a few years and his smile can light up the room. There is also Alan, the manager at Marco Polo. As he walks through the restaurant checking on his staff and the mini buffet, he always stops at the table to ask us how things are going and if he can do anything. Over the years, we have encountered a few different bartenders in the members lounge (not because they have left, but because they rotate every so many weeks) and yet by day two we still get greeted with an "Hola, same as yesterday?" And I do switch drinks throughout the day and yet by the time I am seated at the bar, my drink usually beats me there. The last two trips, we had Carmen and Ernesto - two of the best. And you can't forget Lecita at the spa. Not only does she give amazing massages, even she remembered us and the types of massages (I get the relaxing and the husband gets the Mayan) - we were even in the pool when she saw us. We obviously rebooked as soon as we saw her. When the Facebook posts say welcome home, they truly mean it. We have been coming to the Solaris hotels since 2004 as my mother in law is a member. This last trip in December, we also became members of our own. We have been to the large Sandals and Secrets resorts and while they are amazing and huge, I prefer the smaller intimate setting here at Solaris. You can go anywhere with nice beaches and warm sun and be a number, but I'd rather feel like family.

My family and I were just threatened with having Mexican policia called on us because we were disputing an unfair charge from the hotel, which occurred due to miscommunications by multiple hotel associates. We did not raise our voices, we didn’t use any obscenities, we didn’t insult the man, we never postured in any kind of threatening way. However, Fernando, who identified himself as the manager, told me he would call the police if we didn’t stop disputing the charge. He also made this threat in front of my 8 year old daughter. She heard what he said and was so terrified at the thought of her parents going to jail in a foreign country that she started bawling. I even asked Fernando if he would apologize to my daughter or at least reassure her that her parents weren’t going to be arrested and taken away. He refused and said, “no I’m not going to do that.” This was an excessive and completely unnecessary reaction to a civil discussion and simple and fair request. Additionally I’ve read similar reviews as far back as 2012 where this kind of behavior was also reported. It seems that even now that Cancún is trying to reopen to tourism, GR Solaris stands by their commitment to intimidate their paying guests and terrify children.

This was a gal pal trip of three. For the price point, this was overall a really good hotel and experience. I would venture to say this is a bit of a party spot (if that’s what you’re looking for—or not). I’d definitely stay here again. Pros: swim up bar, close to the CUN airport (10-15 minute taxi ride), day time activities (Bingo, volleyball, Zumba, etc), food buffets (they serve you) available all day, they’ll hold your luggage until your room is ready. Food room service. Bring your own cup, they’ll happily fill it while you’re around the pool. All balconies offer a beautiful view. Smoking allowed around the pool. Direct beachfront property with beach loungers available. Up to date renovations. Hot water, good pressure. No one badgering you to purchase a time share or purchase anything else. 3 Elevators. Cons: check in is strictly 3pm (though if you arrive early they will wristband you and allow you to lunch on the premises and use the pool; that was nice). Smoking not allowed on balconies. It can get a little loud around the pool with all the activities/music/entertainment director using the mic. Food is mediocre (think cruise ship quality). WiFi was not great in the room or pool area.
