The hotel is located right on the water with gorgeous views from the balcony rooms. The rooms, grounds, pools and beach areas are cleaned and well kept daily. The staff all work so hard all day long and the service they give is excellent! We had a great time joking with all of them! The food is pretty good, the fine dining restaurant is a step up. The hotel rooms are dated but that did not bother us. We would start our days under the beach palapas all the while our awesome servers are bringing us drinks and food, looking out at the beautiful sea. The water is crystal clear with array of beautiful blues. Snorkeling you will see many beautiful fish. Afternoons we would retreat to the beautiful pool areas. Take a a walk on the beach and explore too. It is a paradise for sure, we will return! It was sad to say goodbye to all our amigos that made our stay so special, Gabriel, Jesus, Carlos, Santiago, Yaneth, Manuel, Angelica, Oscar & Fredrico and all were the BEST! Also, get a massage, excellent!! Until we meet again amigos, Viva ala Mexico♥ CAWAMA!!!!

The first unpleasant thing is the check in, despite there was only one person before us, it took us 40 minutes to check in, when you finally manage to do it, before giving you the room they charge you an environmental tax also then they make you an withholding of 150 usd regardless of the environmental tax, the rooms are old and have no maintenance, everything smells musty, the pools dirty, the staff that washes the floors throws the water into the pools full of bird poop, garbage and crumbs, the People who work in the hotel are very rude in general, after the food, although it does not taste bad, the ingredients of the food are very low quality and it shows, the menu is misleading since they say they have arugula salad and only have normal lettuce of bad quality, the cheese is greasy and artificial, even the food in the "gourmet" restaurant is of poor quality, the conclusion is that in the end paying the same you can stay in a hotel of more high quality.

I meant to write this when we got back but anyhow here it is now! This was a last minute impromptu vacation. There was 7 of us who just needed to be in Mexico on the beach. After booking, I was a little worried because of some of the reviews. I, too, had been to this resort before many years ago and some of the reviews written made me rethink my decision. We were there 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. 1. The hotel definitely needs updated and the AC needs to be fixed. 2. The staff were amazing, very friendly and very accommodating. 3. The food is typical resort food, remember you aren't going to a 5 star hotel or restaurant, set your expectations accordingly! 4. The travel industry has suffered since January 2020, give them a break. They are struggling trying to fill their hotels and trying to get food and supplies. if you paid a cheap price, set your expectations accordingly. Will I go back to this hotel? Probably not, but I got exactly what I paid for, a great time, acceptable food, a beautiful beach and nice people! If you are on the fence about going, go and remember treat people the way you want to be treated Thank you El Coz for a great time over the years

The reasons we keep coming back to El Cozumeleno (30 times) are because the staff bust their butts to please their guests, (TIP THEM!) the hotel is right on the water offering incredible views, everything is centrally located from your room to the bars to the beach to the pools and the snorkeling is fantastic. You are literally swimming in a well stocked aquarium ten feet from shore. But I can understand why people post negative reviews: The air conditioner temp controls can not be lowered. We were given a fan but still not cold enough. The balcony door was hard to close and the closet door fell off it's runners. And a bunch of other little things. It's like a homeowner who is trying to sell his house so he doesn't put any more money into it. But I can forgive that because of Covid and low hotel occupancy. When El Cozumeleno gets busy again, I would expect repairs to be made. The foods OK. Not great but we could always can find something we like. But the staff make the place. Everyone deserves mention but special shoutouts to Martha, Roberto, Santiago, Antonio, Yaneth and Oscar. Like I said, I can understand the negative reviews but if you come with the right attitude, you'll love it.

I stayed at El Cozumeleño for my Ironman 70.3 race and had a lovely experience. The amenities are fabulous, the view from the rooms is unbeatable, and the staff is fantastic. Specifically, Brian and David in the entertainment department were great facilitators of fun, and William and Rodrigo, members of the wait staff, made me feel very taken care of with regard to my food allergies. I will definitely come back soon and recommend it to my friends!
