Great dive crew and boats. Nice, comfortable rooms with fantastic hammocks on the balcony. Very good buffets available for all 3 meals. Save your money and skip the ala carte restaurants. Waited 1.5 hours to get food at steak house and it wasn't crowded. I had ordered a vegetable skewer. Other people in the party received either very rare steaks or steaks so tough they could barely cut through them. We had a party of 17, but that was ridiculous.

This was our 3rd trip to the Cozumel Iberostar. It is our favorite place in Mexico. The location is perfect. Having the dive shop on site is so convenient for booking snorkeling, scuba and fishing trips that pick you up right on the pier. It was great to be able to use the catamarans and other watersports equipment. Some of our favorite employees made the trip even more enjoyable: Geovani (sp?) at the pool bar, Pamela at Dessel Divers, Angelo and Harlet on the entertainment team, Ana Lopez at the pool, Ismael at the towel station are just a few. I would love to be able to name them all. We did not have a bad experience. Harlet is probably the best dancer I have ever seen. I know he will go far. We are already looking forward to our next trip.

Information about events and dining at the property is hard to come by. There doesn't seem to be anything posted or in writing. It doesn't seem to be advertised on the website well. The bed was hard, spooned, and low. I found it very hard to get out of. Food was serviceable and decent with a wide array of choices. Maria, at the front desk, was a stand out star. She was very cheerful and very helpful every time we saw her. Top marks, Maria! You were a real standout. All in all, we'd go again, but we have learned a few things. Take a clothes line and clothes pins. The floors are polished stone. Ask for extra towels for the bed side. A coffee pot in the room would be wonderful, as would a few snacks to go with the well stocked mini-fridge. A few more directional signs would be helpful; everyone in our group got lost at least once.

The service level has dropped in the past 6 months. We were there two times earlier this year and the services were much better. While the food has improved, the attitude and attentiveness of the staff has fallen off.

This was a hard rating to assign because there were a few things that were excellent about this resort but ultimately, the downsides prevented me from giving this a four or five star rating. I’ll start with the bad so I can end on the good…. Downsides: - The first two rooms we were assigned were dirty and dysfunctional: the sheets were stained, there were many caterpillars in the room, the electricity went out spontaneously, furniture was very worn and dated, and water was dripping from the ceiling. - I got food poisoning on the first night after eating at the cafeteria. - The restaurants were very disappointing: the food was not very good and there was no ambience. There was also no room service. - The check-in process was a nightmare. People were waiting up to an hour or more to check in because it was so disorganized. - We received mixed instructions about restaurant reservations, checking out, etc. Upsides: - The staff was extremely accommodating. Specifically, Reyes (Bell Boy), Aramanta and Alejandra (Entertainment), Roberto (Management), and the ladies at the front desk were exceptional. They moved us to a new, clean room and made sure that we had an enjoyable stay. They are each a huge asset to this resort. - The grounds were absolutely beautiful. They were superbly maintained, and the plants, flowers, and trees were just spectacular. - Having animals on site was a special touch that I really enjoyed. There are flamingos, all types of tropical birds (including a sweet parrot named Pepe who likes to hang out in the lobby and be pet), peacocks, etc. - The water served from the restaurants and from the fountains was filtered and safe to drink. Glass bottles were provided in each room to cut down on the use of plastic water bottles (which is a huge waste in most resorts). - Access to scuba diving was very convenient. There are several different types of diving excursions that are available right on-site (through Dressel Divers). Ultimately, this resort needs some significant facility upgrades and operational improvements. Without these improvements, I would not stay here again. However, if these improvements are made, I would consider returning because of the staff, the grounds / animals, and the access to scuba diving.
