What is Travellers’ Choice?
Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Conde Nast Traveler's 50 Best New Hotels in the World. Hotel Secreto is a sleek nine-room hideaway - Santorini-meets-Schrager style. Constantly upgrading, the hotel was renovated in 2005 to include a 20 meter lap pool and an all junior suite lay-out. Designed by an award-winning architect, the hotel looks more like a slick private beach house. Modern touches such as WI-FI and pre-loaded iPods are part of an enhanced poolside service.
I can’t say enough about the staff! Hospitality is top notch! The location is absolutely perfect. North beach is just a short walk, restaurants and souvenir shops a short walk too! The hotel is quiet and peaceful. There are taco and churro trucks less then a block away. Does it get better than that?

Best kept secret in Isla. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect on our 1st stay, but it quickly exceeded our expectations, mainly due to the awesome staff. We requested the 4th floor when we made our reservation and the views were breathtaking, especially in the morning. All of the 12 rooms facing the ocean have covered balconies, daybeds and table with chairs. The first floor allows you to walk directly to the pool. The reception area is also the bar and is setup like a private library. Plenty of seating if you need to wait for someone or a cab. The staff is amazing and friendly and will do whatever they can to make sure you have the best holiday. Since there are only 20 rooms they do not have a restaurant, which is perfect. We love getting out, meeting the locals and enjoying the amazing food of IM. North Garden was our favorite breakfast and lunch venue - literally steps away. There is also a small store beside the North Garden and some other food places. We will return. Fyi, Angel the bartender is amazing and can make some awesome drinks.…

This was our first stay at the Hotel Secreto and we were delighted the second we walked in and met the always bubbly Estefania at the front desk. She is a superstar. We have been to Isla numerous times and were looking for something a little quieter off the beaten path and the loud music of the North Beach and found this perfect little gem. The staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. Shout out to Angel who not only offers poolside beverage service, but was able to give excellent restaurant recommendations and even arrange dinner on our patio one evening. We can’t say enough about this gorgeous little spot on the quiet side of the North Beach that is only a two minute walk to some beautiful snorkelling and access to all of the atmosphere that the North Beach has to offer if that’s what you’re looking for. We’ve already booked for next season. We also enjoyed our morning, runs down the east side seawall down into the metro area. Everything is so easy to access with access to shopping and several morning coffee spots within a five minute walk. So, if you’re looking for a little bit of peace and quiet, all dressed up with some elegant service and beautiful views, this is your spot.…

We stayed for four nights in Room 1 - walk out to the pool on ground level. Wow. Room, terrace area and pool were all amazing. The view to the water was spectacular. It was quiet and peaceful, yet so close to Playa Norte and all the restaurants and live music. The bar service during the day was great. Front desk service so friendly. I would highly recommend and would stay here again.

I booked thru booking.com and on their website they said this was adults only. That was not the case and there is no mention of that on the Hotel Secreto website. We chose not to get a balcony and that was an error on our part. The inside rooms do not offer any chairs so select carefully. Despite that, we loved our room. The mattress was comfortable and the linens were very clean. The water pressure was fantastic and plenty of hot water. The pool is perfectly maintained and the entire hotel is well maintained. My husband and I got a massage at the spa and I stayed behind for a facial. If you go to the spa, they do not allow you to add the tip on afterwards; I was only told this at the end of our stay and didn't have quite enough pesos to tip the way I had intended. I'll know for next time to bring cash with me to tip directly after my service. The location is excellent because its short walk to North Beach and Hidalgo but quiet on the property.…

We visited Hotel Secreto for a friend’s birthday with a very large group. Almost all of us stayed at the hotel and took up most of the ocean facing rooms. We had extremely high expectations for the hotel and they were mostly met. The hotel is walkable from the ferry and extremely close to restaurant, bars and North Beach while truly retaining a hidden away vibe. The lobby and rooms are comfortable and have great design and style. The bathrooms are nicely outfitted and the showers are a delight. The front desk doubles as a bar and they mix up absolutely killer drinks. The staff was helpful when we had questions but really let us do our own thing. A couple of less than stellar things: I decided to use the gym one day and it was a disaster. It smelled like mildew, had mostly broken machines and had clearly not been cleaned for a long while. I am sure not a lot of people are visiting to use the hotel gym but I would say…. Don’t. The hotel itself is pretty well maintained but I agree with other reviews who note that it isn’t as pristine as it sounds like it was when it first opened. It has definitely aged. I don’t agree, however, with comments about the pool. The pool was a refreshing temperature when we were there, and I wouldn’t expect to find a heated pool in Mexico. It is plenty large for the size of the hotel and the jaw dropping view out onto the ocean just never got old. Overall, this is a wonderful option on Isla even if it isn’t quite perfect. I still loved our time there.…

Great hotel with amazing views. Huge room with a minimal vibe. Very nice nespresso machine. Nice towels & robe. Never tried the tv. It’s so wonderful to step out of your room onto the pool deck for the sunrise. Plenty of seating around the pool. The staff is so sweet and very capable. We really enjoyed getting to know them all. I’ll always remember my new Argentine friends and watching futbol with them. Thanks for a great stay. Only complaint is rooms are very humid.

Hotel secreto is superbly located at the very top of playa Norte..the main beach on the island..just a few minutes walk..the beach is the least crowded here and where visiting boats from Cancun stop (as it’s shallow enough to wade from boat to beach!) ..water is lovely with fishes; sand is amazing! Nice beach bars with cool vibe all day..hotel is also well situated for nightlife..only 10 mins max to the pedestrian Main Street with loads of bars and restaurants! The hotel has a cool vibe..lovely staff, fab swimming pool and is located on an almost private wild beach..too rocky for swimming but fab to look out to sea! Rooms are very spacious (we had room 11 top floor with big balcony) and bed super comfy…would not hesitate to stay again!

What a wonderful place to stay on Isla Mujeres!! The staff. Grounds and rooms were amazing. We felt really comfortable here during our stay. It is very close to Playa Norte, Restaurants, The Mercado and shops. They can also arrange for a Golt Cart Rental to be delivered to the Hotel at no additional cost. We rented to for the day for $60, which was at or below the going rate on the island. They also have a bar and the Margarati was the best we had on the island. Beds were really comfortable as well. For the most part is was really quiet at night. The room doors do make some noise when they are closed, but that was it. You can also ask for loungers and an umbrella for the beach area on the property for No additional cost. We will definitely stay here again. It's also on the Conde Nast list for Boutique Hotels. …

We just returned from our second stay at Hotel Secreto (first was in 2020). The staff is professional and friendly, and very accommodating. The hotel is just enough off the beaten path to be peaceful and private, but close enough to walk to the beach and downtown. Can’t wait to be back!
