This hotel is in a great location, but could use an update/refresh. That said, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was really good and the pool and gym was nice. Definitely would stay here again given the location.

Nice area, hotel ok, used to be better, specially breakfast buffet with local food . Kind of expensive for what they offer. Better options very close with similar prices. Walk around in Paseo Montejo avenue.

Pragmatism and good location are this hotel’s main features, for better or worse, especially when it comes to pragmatism. I’ll start with the location of the property: If you’re a tourist in Merida there is hardly a better location to choose from. Yes, there is a new business and shopping district up north of the city, but if you are in town for experiencing and living its true spirit, then the Montejo area is the place to stay at. This hotel is within a comfortable walking distance from high-end restaurants and cheap eats, local and international coffee shops, pubs and bars, gallerias and shops. And if you’re a more fitted person, you can even make it to the historic district where another good amount of restaurants, coffee shops, brew houses, and tourist spots lay. Plus, do not forget that Paseo Montejo itself is an area worth strolling around. Now, when it comes to the pragmatic part of the story, there are pros and cons. On the PROS side the price should definitely be a highlight. Price per night at Holiday Inn Merida is significantly cheaper compared to neighboring hotels. The area used to be upscale a while ago and you can tell by the surrounding brands. However though, new, perkier, more appealing, and equally economic hotels have recently arrived to the area, so you (as well as Holiday Inn Merida) might want to keep an eye on those. On the CONS side, this property is so pragmatic you should see it as a place where to spend the night only. This is certainly not the kind of property enjoyable by itself. If you choose to stay here is because you’ll spend all day out and will be back for sleeping and showering only, meaning: do not venture into the restaurants, expect nothing even close to a sophisticated bar scene, and do not think of the pool as a vacation cliché. And in more general aspects such as décor, ambiance, appeal, and so on, well, keep your bar low. A facelift is urgently needed! Finally, when it comes to accessibility this hotel is quite doable on wheelchair; nevertheless, its handicapped rooms (at least 308) are far from being fully wheelchair friendly, especially when it comes to the bathroom. Holiday Inn Merida must have clear that accessibility is not only about security grab-bars on every wall, which are needed indeed but also is needed enough space for a wheelchair to go in. In this case, the toilet and shower were hard to reach on a standard wheelchair because of the tightness of the bathroom, and it was not able to turn once inside. Without a doubt a sign of the years this hotel bears. As a wrap up, think of what you want a hotel in Merida for. If you’re planning in spending significant time within your chosen hotel premises, then go find something else. If you want to save some money on your stay while being in in the middle of what Merida truly is about, then Holiday Inn Merida is a good, clean, friendly, comfortable, welcoming, yet outdated, option.

I had no issues with my room, a/c worked great. Water temp and pressure were good in the shower. Bed was super comfortable. The staff is wonderful and friendly. And the breakfast was very good, much better than what you would find in an American Holiday Inn. It is so much nicer than any Holiday Inn in America, you would be pleasantly surprised! I also liked that it wasn’t in the city center as it was a little more quiet and peaceful. Yet, still close enough to walk to everything. Overall, I was very pleased and would stay here again.

Checking in I was notified that my room was on the "smoking floor" (what hotel nowadays still have a smoking floor???) Of course I complaint, but I have been told that I never stated in the reservation that I would like a non-smoking room.... I felt like in the 70s... do you really have to state in the reservation at a Holiday Inn that you prefer a smoke free room, shouldn´t it be the other way around? I have been told that there was no other room available, so I tried to cancel the reservation, but it was prepaid (directly with Holiday Inn, so should´t it be possible in this case to cancel it???) So at the end I had to sleep on the smokers floor in a smoking room... the room smelled terrible and so smelled my clothes and myself afterwards.... besides the hotel is not bad, but come on this is 2019, smoking rooms should not be the standard.

While in Merida, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Merida for two nights. The room was lovely with balcony overlooking the courtyard. Ignacio, the desk clerk was most helpful and assisting me getting a ticket to the local bullfight. The breakfast buffet is sumptuous. Lots of choices, fresh fruit, a chef making omelets to order, and 4 kinds of fresh juices.

I have stayed here 1998 and 2018 December. Both times a delightful experience. While some might rate it "not Modern enough or over fancy it is superb in privacy, room size, bath rooms very nice, and the second floor roof top pool is wonderful. I would say located perfectly for city visit to museums, shopping and restaurants. We parked free. It had the best breakfast we received with room in all of Mexico. So If you need high fancy expensive to feel good about yourself you might not like it. However price per dollar superb, subtle, and quietly unique. It is not like any holiday inn in America.

My wife and I decided to try the Holiday Inn for Thanksgiving dinner, but what a huge mistake, the food was absolutely disgusting, the turkey was so dry it was turkey jerky, the green beans are so hard we couldn't eat them, and, they did not have mashed potatoes, a a staple for every Thanksgiving dinner, we had to order side dish of Nashville tayto's and that was ice cold ,they had roasted baby potatoes, but they were hard as a rock, at the grill station they offered grilled pork chops, that was like eating leather, and Baked Ham which is the cheapest ham you could buy in the stores here in Mexico, it had absolutely no taste. Shish kabob and Argentine sausages, where are offered at the grilling station that were very good, but we came here for Thanksgiving dinner and all we had was the turkey jerky no stuffing no mashed potatoes hard hard green beans, it was very upsetting and the price we paid over $1,000 Pesos for two people. The atmosphere was beautiful and listen to Mexican guitar players playing. That was nice, but the main reason that we came here was for was a good Thanksgiving dinner and we didn't get it, my wife tried the soup it had no flavor and it was ice cold. They had a pasta dish that had store-bought canned sauce with no flavor The desserts had no taste, and is the typical desserts that they buy in bulk that is frozen, and then they put them out. I couldn't even get a hot cup of coffee even that was cold. Check out the sad photo of their turkey jerky! Chef Bob Lissandrello Yucatan Food Critic

My wife and I recently visited Merida for her 30th Birthday. I had planned to stay at Holiday Inn as I have been a platinum and gold member for many years. We had booked a basic room with a King bed. When we arrived we were upgraded to the Priority Club level rooms. This are of the hotel had a amazing Mayan mural on the wall. Once we arrived in the room it was very warm. The a/c was turned off to conserve energy. And there was no windows to open. Only a skylight. On the 1st night we found out the a/c would not get the room below 24.5 Degrees C. (76 Degrees F). This was warm for us. We reported this to the hotel staff and they sent a technician. The technician reported this is normal operation for theses rooms. The next day we started to have troubles with the safe in the room. It would not lock. Then the panel went dead. It took over 2 hours to get repaired. So we had to cancel our morning plans. In the mean time I asked if we could change rooms. They sent a staff member to show us another room in the area. It was exactly the same issue. Warm air would blow out of the a/c. During this time I also asked about the money exchange the hotel offer. But, they said they no longer do this service. Since now 2 rooms have the same issue with the a/c. It was finally time to pack and leave. We found another hotel that was a more pleasant stay for the remaining of the vacation. The hotel is very beautiful and located in a nice area of the city. Not really much to do on a weekend or going out at night you would want to look at more in the city center. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the highlight of this hotel. It's a shame that Holiday Inn Management had not contacted us prior to leaving or at the check out.
