Stay was okay but they were doing construction in the room right next to us and it was very loud starting at 6:00am till around 6:00 pm. The lack of sleep was a problem and the fumes were bothersome to an extent

Review RIU Yucatan Beach/Sargassum: No need to worry about not being able to swim in the ocean at Playa Del Carmen. Yes, there is roughly 3-4 feet wide of sargassum. However once you go through this band of seaweed, you will reach a breathtaking crystalline ocean. The only downside is the following: get there early if you'd like a chair(s) as it may be difficult to find some after 10h00. Same situation with the pool area. May people put their towels early in the morning to reserve their chairs and return later. It didn't really bother us. However it did frustrate some people. Food: The best food we've ever eaten in all of our years of traveling! There are 4 main restaurants which 3/4 do not require reservations which is greatly appreciated! Sicilia: Italian restaurant à la carte, buffet starters and dessert. Bonus as it is open from 17h00-2h00! La Margarita: steakhouse à la carte Shanghai: Asian restaurant buffet Mexican restaurant at Beach Club; à la carte, *Reservation required* Our two favorites were Sicilia and Shanghai. La Hacienda is the breakfast and supper restaurant. Amazing selection and variety of food! We were extremely impressed! A huge thank you to Vincente and Janet. They were so helpful and 2 beautiful souls! Rooms: Our room was perfect! We stayed in room 1510, 2nd floor located on the left side of the hotel. It was quiet and near the quiet pool which we greatly appreciated! Enjoyed sitting on our balcony to observe monkeys, agoutis, coatis and cats. Pools: There are a total if 3 pools which are very clean and clear water. 2 of them were more entertaining and for partying and the one located near the hotel was quieter. This is the one we spent most of our week at as we needed to relax. However the other pools are great if you're seeking to be entertained and to listen to louder music. They held a foam party which was awesome!! Flora and fauna: Our favorite moment of the day was walking on the path leading to the pools and beach. There is a beautiful habitat dedicated to the howler monkeys, agoutis and coatis. We loved observing them! Don't be startled as it is frequent to hear the monkeys howl. There are also a variety of different species of flowers that play host to a lot of beautiful and exotic plants that produce mesmerizing flowers and even delicious fruits such as mangos. Front desk: Attentive, helpful and courteous! They called us 4 times during our stay to follow up and to ensure our stay was up to our standards. A special thank you to Daniel who went the extra mile to ensure that our stay was a memorable one. Entertainment staff: Edgar is such a beautiful soul! He is attentive, helpful, funny and a dedicated employee! We appreciated the conversations we shared with him :) The nightly entertainment shows are great! Some of the best we've seen during our travels. Mother Nature is a must if it is part of the weekly schedule! Michael Jackson, Rock show and the RIU Tequila Neon party which again is a must! We had a blast! There is so much work, time and effort that is put into this amazing evening! The entertainment staff did neon & glitter makeup for 2 1/2 hours non-stop!

The hotel is perfect! The location and the beach in front of it is amazing - white sand, palm trees and turquoise water. The facilities are clean and comfortable. The staff is amazing - friendly and hospitable. Animation is the best. Strongly recommend the hotel!

The location is great. Absolutely beautiful beach. Food was not good at all. The wait staff and bartenders were nice. Buffet foods that should have hot (or at least warm) was cold. There were many food choices, but almost everything was awful. Hotel & room were clean, with exception of an ant problem. (I ended up buying some ant killer spray at a nearby store) Our air conditioning and mini fridge did not work. It took 3 days to get a new fridge and the air never did come on, but had a ceiling fan, that helped a little bit. Did not receive an apology or any type of credit for that. Beach and pool seating is a problem. You can get clean towels at 8am, but when I went down every morning at that time, almost all of the lounge chairs were already taken. (Not sure if people were saving them the night before or what?!) Hotel really needs to get that situation taken care of. There were only two of us and it was an issue all 6 days trying to get seats. We booked an excursion, right thru the hotel, to take a catamaran to Isla Mujeres. Best day ever! $278 US dollars for 2. Included transportation to/from marina, snorkeling, lunch & drinks. Definitely worth it! We had monkeys right off of our balcony and they were really fun to watch. I cut my foot pretty bad at the pool and needed to go to the hospital for stitches. However, the staff was not helpful during this time. Had difficulty arranging ride to hospital. The hospital told me I had to pay $2,700 US dollars - in cash - to get stitches on my foot. (Apparently cannot use your American insurance there) So I did not get them and returned to hotel. Staff did not even help finding me a place to go buy medical supplies to clean and care for wound. There are many choices in this area for all-inclusive stays. This is not one I would pick again. With all of that being said, we still had a great time. It’s hard not to love a place so beautiful.

The resort is overall clean, rooms are slightly dated , service and food is good. A party of 10 arrived to this resort Feb 19th, the resort was busy upon arrival meaning we had to wait for our rooms to be ready until 4 pm. We arrived at 1 pm and there was not a chair available around the pool or beach. Many reserved chairs with towels and nobody around. It was lunchtime as this is understandable but this chair situation was an issue all week and seems to be an ongoing concern. Our overall holiday was good but this resort is very crowded... we had to get up at 6:30 to even get a chair on the beach in a good location. Shame on the hotel for not enforcing the no reserving chair policy. Most resorts have a 0800 rule which is perfect for most vacationers. A strong suggestion is to start enforcing this to make others vacations more enjoyable. I would not recommend this hotel due to this issue.

Great holiday, but wife got food poisoning on last couple of days, it was a chicken dish, as tested by GP on return to UK. But apart from that, staff great, hotel brilliant, superb location, loved it, again and will return again.

Dear Steve, We cannot thank you enough for your great ratings. We always recommend to leave the full name on feedbacks, so we can do the proper follow up your comments and assist you when applicable, especially when making statements about the food. When being seriously concern, evidence, full name and formal complaint must be placed. Our hotel has a capacity of more than 1,100 guests, please allow us to clarify that health is our priority. Therefore, we follow a food safety protocol, ensuring product safety and quality, in all our F&B processing, preparation and service processes. We can guarantee that our regular H&S inspections show optimal results in this area. Needless to say, we are truly sorry to learn your wife did not feel well. Travelling to different countries with different climates may lead to gastrointestinal problems, which may not necessarily be related to food. Nevertheless, the management will be informed. Sincerely, Hotel Riu Yucatán Online Reputation Manager

A wonderful holiday. My husband and I cannot find fault. We were looked after and nothing was too much trouble. I have been to all inclusive where they have been restricted in giving drinks and generally watered down, not at this hotel. Four optics with good spirits in our room and a fridge full of soft drinks and water. Food was great and we didn't take up the option of the other restaurants because the main restaurant had a great variety of food. Special mention to our waiter Fausto who looked after us very well and Carlos too for keeping our room spotless and providing an array of towel art. Wonderful experience to walk amount the monkeys (Howler and Spider), Agouti, Coatimundis and Iguanas. Thank you Riu Yucatan for making our stay so wonderful.

Very impressed upon our arrival at the hotel, everything looked luxurious. Easy check in and given Key and directions to our room, but far from impressed with the room which was supposed to be 5*, but I would say no more than 3*. All the room furniture looked like it was originally wood, but hand-painted over white, but not a good paint job. The Faux Leather chairs were scratched and badly worn, the shower tray was very worn, the fridge was rusty, but the worst thing was that the light switch was loose and one of the two switches did not work, but we could also only have all of the lights in the room on or none as the lights were wired up together. The receptionist informed us that we could upgrade to a suite for $50.00 per night more, which would have been approximately £500 more which we thought was unacceptable, manager was unavailable until the next morning as it was a late arrival to the hotel. Spoke to the manager the next morning and showed him the videos and photographs of the 5* room and he immediately offered us the suite at no extra charge, which we took up on his offer. The suite was fantastic and definitely 5* and I am glad to say the original room was the only issue we had throughout the whole holiday. Three amazing pools to choose from and also other Rui hotels to also go to if you wanted a change of scenery. Our main pool was also very close to a stunning beach, which we went to on several mornings to watch the amazing sunrise and even swimming in the warm sea at 6:30am. Great selection of food for Breakfast, lunch or dinner whether you are a meat eater, vegetarian or vegan and you can mix and match to your hearts content. There was a choice of other specialty restaurants of which we only attended the Italian and Asian restaurants. Entertainment every evening where the staff did their very best to get you involved (Even if you didn't want to lol) Very large selection of drinks and you didn't wait long to get served by the attentive staff. All in all a fantastic holiday following a little blib at the beginning.

First time to Mexico. Staff was great. You could see them working hard all the time. Buffet was excellent. We were disappointed with the restaurants. Long wait times and the food was cold. We weren’t the only disappointed with restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.
