We weren't too impressed with our stay here. It was very easy to find and the island itself was relaxing but our room desperately needed a clean - the bathroom plug hole was clogged with hair. It was nice to get free water each day but a little maintenance would be good. Staff were not interested in us really which was ok as we didn't really need anything but a shame that they weren't a little more friendly.

Khao Paeng guesthouse is located near to the pier. Just hang a right after you leave the boat and it's right in front of you next to Lao long restaurant. Rooms are basic, and at the same time old and dated. And although they seem clean, the floor was covered in dried mud. Possibly due to the large amounts of rain?? There is no maid service here either. Free water is provided on arrival, and rooms have towels, toilet roll and soap. The rooms have lovely views over the river and they have they own balcony compete with hammock, There is No wifi, you actually use the wifi of the restaurant next door which if you're in the a/c rooms at the back of the property doesn't reach your room.... After you get checked in you will unlikely never see anyone again. I had to ask at neighbouring shops to check out. I'm sure better places are available on the island.

The bungalow we had overlooked the river; the view was beautiful and it was very peaceful and quiet (until a noisy family turned up next door.) The guesthouse is in a great location too (as soon as you get off the boat on the island walk up to the main street and turn right, you’ll see the place on your right hand side). The owner was really nice and friendly and his English is really good. He booked our ongoing trip and charged less than everyone else we asked on the island. Now, for the bad: The guys in their restaurant don’t really care about good customer service. They’ll play on their phones and ignore customers. I watched groups of people leave on a few occasions because no one was around or wanted to go serve them. The food at the restaurant is nothing special and the lack of service didn’t make us want to come back. The other bad thing is that the walls are paper-thin and you can hear everyone walking around (or stomping, as our neighbours did.) Overall, it’s a great place to stay if you get one of the rooms out the back and you don’t have neighbours. In the hot season splash out and get air con, it's gets really hot and the fans don't really do much. You can lay back and relax on your hammock and watch the sunset too. As for food, there are far better options available on the island so walk around and check them out. There's only one place that we found (can't remember the name, sorry) that does a duck larp: it's incredibly tasty! When you come out of the guesthouse turn left and walk up the main street about 100m, it's on your left hand side. There's also a second set of waterfalls in the opposite direction to the ones you have to pay for. They're free to enter and less touristy in the morning, ask the owner and he'll tell you where it is.

Room Tip: The rooms up the back are the best, but the wifi doesn't stretch that far so you'll have...

We came to here to relax for a couple of days. We arrived and were booked into the riverfront bungalow which was a pleasant surprise. Each bungalow has decking, little table and chairs and a hammock. The view from the riverside bungalows were great at sunset and a lovely time to chill on the decking. The room and security of the room itself was very basic, which is to to be expected from bamboo bungalows. They did not make us pay extra for aircon and I would recommend it has the bungalows get very hot. They had a mosquito net already hung which you will need as bugs could get in through the cracks not that we had a problem with this apart from a few mosquitoes. The owner was awesome he was polite and always had a smile. He helped us booking buses, hiring bikes, laundry and let us change up money late at night. The wifi was better than expected if a little slow. The owner also owned the restaurant next door which served great food and had a nice atmosphere.

A very nice Gesthouse close to the best Restaurant of the Island. We stayed in the two bungalows right on the water with a deck and two hammocks. Really a beautyfull and clean room and a good bed for a cheap price .
