We spent a week at Lorette and Don's B&B in Oct. 2014 and what a great place to stay. They were both so warm and welcoming to us. Great breakfasts brought to our room every morning. Had to eventually ask for less food as I could see the waistline expanding if I ate this much every morning. We stayed in the Scallop Shell Room which was an immaculate, artistically decorated room with the ocean out the back door. The B&B is located in Port Clements which is centrally located on the island so it was the same distance to travel both north and south on the island. Didn't realize what an advantage that was when discovering this special place called Haida Gwaii. Beautiful walk from the B&B through old growth forest to a bird/wildlife sanctuary lookout that we visited many times. Lorette loves what she does and it shows. Only thing I would change is that we would maybe stay in the Island View Room which had a balcony and barbecue. Great place to come home to every evening after exploring the island.

I found the room a bit small, but the bathroom was lovely. I was also disappointed with the breakfasts as everyone in the guest book had said they were awesome. I did not find them so, we had the same thing every day unless we asked to change it. We tended to just have eggs, fried potatoes and bacon. The fresh fruit and toast were great, but the warm food was a little disappointing. Don was extremely helpful in helping us get by on the logging roads, drawing us a map and lending us a radio. The garden is absolutely gorgeous, unfortunately we only got to sit in it once as the rain set in. Overall comfortable, if a bit small, but lovely hospitality.

Well let's see. Where will I start. I've been staying at Smillies for a total of 5 stays at 3 nights per stay since 2008. Each of those stays have been perfect. Not one issue. Lorette and Don own and manage and watch over this gem which explains the consistant quality. The morning breakfast is always 2 thumbs up. It's very quiet at Smillies. A good place to go for a couple days to relax and to unwind. Yes, perfection. I recommend Smillies B and B to all who are coming to the island. Thanks Don and Lorette.

We loved this place! We stayed in the Garden suite which was beautifully decorated, spacious and had a convenient kitchenette. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was filling and delicious:) A must stay if you're visiting Haida Gwaii.

I have now stayed at Smillie's B&B on 2 separate dates. August 2010 and now August 2012. On upon arrival you will be greeted by Lorrete who is the owner & hostess of Smillies B&B. When you enter your room you will be impressed by the quality and detail. I travel over 200 days per year and i've stayed in the worst (not purposely) and in the best. Here are a few reasons why I recommend Smillies B&B: #1: very clean and very comfortable. #2: the rooms are not small but very spacious. #3: a private washroom in each room. #4: natural light from the large window (close the curtains if you prefer) #5: an excellent breakfast!! (ask for the french toast) #6: peaceful surrondings. #7: always a smile from the owner.
I feel this B&B reflects the owners attention to service and detail with quality. So if you are in or near Port Clements I recommend to stay at Smillies B&B.
"Well done again Smillies!!"

I just left Port Clements during which I spent 4 wonderful restful and peaceful nights at Smillies B&B. I travel for a living and it is rare to have owners take care in providing the very best for their guests. It’s obvious Don and Lorrete ( the owners) love their work. The B&B is spotless, very cozy and a perfect location by the water. Certainly a 5plus star rating. It would be a wonderful place for a retreat or maybe a reunion or honeymoon or if your like me (a weary traveler) it’s a place to arrive to and leave the laptop alone. Yes,Very very nice. Thanks Don and Lorrete.
Ps: When making reservations ask for “Ben’s Room.” You’ll like it.

We stayed at Smillies for 3 days following a 4-day Zodiac tour of Gwaii Haanas. The hosts are outstanding people who are excellent examples of what it means to be leaders in the hospitality industry. The hosts Lorette and Don really care for their guests and are terrifically accommodating down to the last detail. This B&B is in a central location on the island and is a short drive to either Masset/ Old Massett and Naikoon Provincial Park in the North or to Tlell, Skidegate, Queen Charlotte and the south end of Naikoon Provincial Park. While the town is small, the people are friendly and you will surely enjoy the peaceful serenity an overnight stay on the shore of Masset Inlet. While we didn't have time to enjoy the firepit and bench down below our deck, we thoroughly appreciated every other aspect of our stay and advise others heading to the islands to follow in our footsteps.

We stayed 3 nights in Lorette and Bob's B & B. The rooms are separate from the house, and are beautifully decorated, squeaky clean and quiet. Breakfast was delicious and carefully prepared. The owners are delightful people and I would certainly recommend this place to anyone.
