We have been visiting here for six years now ( since chef Michael Caines owned the restaurant, and afterwards ). So when we saw it had changed hands around lockdown, we were a little sceptical. However, on reading the reviews on this site and seeing the menu online, it gave us confidence to pay it another visit. As expected everything is the same as before, and we have always loved staying in their ample sized cottages. The real disappointment for us though was the food. It really is underwhelming, and just doesn’t hit the mark as it once did. We ate here for both nights purely as we didn’t want to drive anywhere as wanted to drink. But both nights we had meals that were overpriced for what they were. We are happy to pay the price when the food is good, but it wasn’t. On the second night we spoke with another couple who also had visited several times before the change in ownership. They were staying for three nights and also said the food was very disappointing. On one night they found a pub elsewhere as didn’t want to eat there because of the food. The breakfasts are better. Maybe a different team here. However, my bubble and squeak was stone cold ( straight out of the fridge cold! ) on the first morning. I told the waiter who apologised as the chef was new! Really!? Sadly we won’t be returning, unless a massive shake up in the kitchen and with the food. Either charge less, or up the game on your food and charge the same. This restaurant won’t survive otherwise. Come on guys, you have a great venue there, just must do better.

Kentisbury grange is well situated for access to the North Devon coast being 10 minutes away. The house itself dates from the Victorian period, and is well decorated with a cosy feel. On arriving I was greeted and treated very professionally by the receptionist, who answered everything I needed to know and left me with a room key for a classic bedroom situated in the house itself. The room was very well decorated, very clean and warm with it’s own en-suite bathroom. Being Victorian the room was very large with high ceilings,I was very impressed. During the evening my Wife and myself enjoyed a meal in the coach house restaurant again very well decorated and laid out with a nice warm atmosphere. We enjoyed a three course evening meal which was very well presented, tasted great and was served in good time. The young staff carried out an excellent job all evening,we retired to our room very satisfied with the whole experience. Again breakfast the following morning was taken in the coach house with great service. We will be going back hopefully for a longer break next time.

Went for some true R&R and wasn’t disappointed. Beautiful lodge with lovely views of the lake and the fields opposite. The lodge was very well equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was the icing on the cake and completed the experience. Staff were all lovely and super friendly. We didn’t use the restaurant or the bar but had a look round it looked beautiful. Would recommend and will definitely be going back.

Stayed here for 2 nights as a base to relax and explore North Devon.First of all the ‘cottage suite’ was great, beautiful bathroom with a lovely freestanding bath.Bed was comfy, tea coffee facilities great.Under floor heating if needed! We ate at the hotel restaurant on the Monday eve.Food was good but breakfasts were excellent! What we do need to comment on is the staff, they are first class!Polite, smiley and really appear to want to make your stay enjoyable. Only little grumble is the ‘bar’ area feels a bit like an after thought. We were surprised there wasn’t a bar in the actual hotel building but maybe this is an ongoing project…..If there was more of a ‘bar’ or seating area for pre/post dinner drinks we would have rated the hotel 5 star. Saying that good value for money and we would return.

We've just returned from a 4 night stay in one of the lodges. It was an enjoyable stay, relaxing, lovely quiet location and it is close enough to places to visit and local amenities (Tesco supermarket 20 minutes drive). The lodges come with WiFi that was perfect as my phone signal disappeared the minute I stepped foot into the lodge. We were a little disappointed, the images give the impression that you're offered some privacy in the hot tubs. We weren't, we were completely overlooked by the lodge opposite, it's not such an issue if you're body confident and don't mind being watched. First look the lodge was a good standard and even comes with a washing machine and dishwasher (only 2 tablets provided) on closer inspection we found mould growing up the back of the curtains in the main bedroom, the blinds in the kitchen didn't close together and after being delayed 20 minutes checking in due to the extra cleaning we found a pair of socks that didn't belong to us on the coffee table. We did report all of the above to reception and were given an apology and told house keeping would be informed. The beds aren't the most comfortable, it dipped in the middle. Good job we don't mind a cuddle lol. That said it didn't spoil our break. We only visited the bar and restaurant once but it was lovely and welcoming and dogs are welcome upstairs. We've had a lovely week, dodged the rain clouds and even managed a couple of evenings in the hot tub. It's a lovely place and we'd recommend it, we are already looking to return next year.
