First of all, it is really far from the San Jose airport or downtown, so I wouldn't stay at this hotel unless you want to be in San Pedro for some reason, such as a meeting at UCR (which is next door). It is right...More

If you have the chance, stay here! Rooms are neat, spacious clean and quiet. Reasonably priced as well! Breakfast was excellent! There are very interesting, colorful "decorations" around the hotel that are a must see!
We stayed again at Hotel Ave Del Paraiso, this time in room #20 and again it was nice. We were prepared this time with mosquito spray, but it was much cooler and a different room so this time it wasn't needed. We really love the...More
I booked this hotel for its location near the University, and the city center some 40 minutes walk away. It was also very reasonably priced, compared to anything in the area. It did not disappoint in any respect. The people at the reception desk was...More

My mother and I will be visiting Costa Rica from Michigan at the end of this month. I was wondering if there's anywhere for guests to sit outside at Hotel Ave del Paraiso on pleasant days and get a little sun? I don't mean "sunbathing" in a swimsuit, more like somewhere to sit and read in shorts and a t-shirt.
Also, what is the hotel's cancellation policy?

There is a courtyard with a grassy area and some artwork and there is a picnic table where you could sit outside and read. There is also an outdoor patio with some tables and chairs next to the breakfast area where you could sit. There is a lot of open space so I think you could probably find a spot to enjoy the nice weather. Also if you walk out of the hotel parking lot and turn left, it is a very short walk to the main campus for UCR and there are lots of grassy areas, benches, etc. to enjoy on campus. To find out about the cancellation policy, I would advise that you email the hotel directly. They were prompt in replying to my questions prior to our trip.
